Extended Summary

Remi is busking outside the surf club, drawing a large crowd. John comes out and asks if he has a permit from the council. Remi tries claiming it blew into the ocean and asks John to do a neighbour a “solid”. John pulls out Remi’s lead (which seemed to be plugged into the surf club) and says he will when Remi has a permit. The crowd disperse and Remi looks forlornly at the few coins he has earned.

At the Parata house, Felicity bemoans to Tane that showing Cash the file hasn’t changed a thing. Tane says Cash is being looked after in hospital so she can take the afternoon off. Felicity agrees she has things to do at work. Tane says that wasn’t what he had in mind but offers to walk her. Nikau comes home and Tane asks how his first day went. Nikau asks whether that means “Did anyone ask if they teach lifesaving skills in prison?”, before assuring him it’s all good. However, after Tane and Felicity have gone, he looks downcast.

At Salt, Remi asks Eden what he can get for $1.50. Eden says a handful of peanuts, which she gives him for free. Remi complains about John shutting him down and isn’t convinced the van will turn up before they starve. Felicity arrives and explains she needs to keep busy with nothing happening with Cash. Noticing the coins, she asks Remi if he’s going to shout her a drink. He offers her a peanut instead.

Theo arrives back at the Morgan house and asks Leah where Justin is. Leah says he’s popped out. Theo says he was hoping to tell Justin first: He passed his last assignment with flying colours. He wants to tell Ziggy, since he did it without her help. Leah reminds him she was helping the band. Theo heads off for an emergency Lyrik meeting but assures Leah there isn’t a problem.

At the surf club, Tane thanks John. John accepts it even though he isn’t sure what he’s being thanked for. Tane says John let Nik stay on. John wasn’t part of the witch hunt but says he does have to keep an eye on Tane: The committee won’t renew his lease on the gym if he’s found guilty. Tane admits he doesn’t have a court date yet. John tells him to contact his lawyer.

At the band’s house, Kirby presents Eden, Remi and Theo with their poor finances. Theo asks if they can rebook the gigs they cancelled. Kirby says she tried and they’d already got replacement bands. She wonders if they should all get second jobs. Remi protests they’d have no time to write and rehearse. Theo points out he and Eden manage and offers to put in his wages from the garage but Kirby refuses. They hear a horn outside and find Justin there with the van (which has the band name displayed prominently and two smaller Summer Bay Auto logos). They are all delighted.

Tane calls someone and complains that this came from him helping them. Felicity joins him and he explains the DPP won’t give him a court date. Felicity reminds him the charges are going to be dropped and Tane tells her about the surf club’s problem. Felicity suggests he tell them the truth and Tane says it doesn’t work like that. They worry what will happen if his lease runs out before it goes to court.

Lyrik are continuing to wow over the van. Remi sees it has a power point in the back and Theo seems pleased with how much space there is there (assuring Kirby it’s for after-gig drinks). Justin tells them it’s a gift with sponsorship: They pay for the petrol and insurance, he pays for registration and repairs. Remi suggests a party. Eden says they don’t have money for beers and Justin produces a box. Kirby invites him to join them, with Eden calling him their silent member.

Back at the surf club, Nikau bumps into Tane and Felicity, who have just got pizza from Salt. Nikau says he has nothing on tonight and Felicity says he wouldn’t be a third wheel around them. John greets them as Tane gives Nikau an update on Cash. Felicity gets a text from Eden, inviting them to come and see her new baby. They’re confused as to what she means and Felicity says they’ll need more pizza.

Eden hands out beers to Remi and the others. Nikau, Tane and Felicity arrive and Eden confirms the van is her baby. Kirby credits Justin and Theo. Remi adds they wouldn’t have it if he hadn’t lost their money. John puts his head over the fence and asks how long the party’s going on for. Remi says until the beer runs out. Eden invites John to join them but he declines. Kirby heads inside, indicating for Theo to join her, then grabs and kisses him, saying she’s wanted to do that all day. Theo reminds her they promised the others, then kisses her back. They quickly spring apart as Eden comes in to get some vodka.

At the Diner, John complains to Leah about Lyrik’s busking and partying and also tells her that Justin’s with them and has his business on their van, which he insists is blocking his view reversing out of his drive. Leah announces she’s clocking off. She heads to Lyrik’s place, passing the van, and finds Justin playing guitar with Remi, Theo and the others and singing with them. Tane and Felicity seem to be enjoying themselves but Nikau is sat a little apart from the others, looking at photos of himself and Bella on his phone. Leah looks pleased for Justin and eventually comes over. Justin suggests they get out of there.

Leah and Justin retire to Salt. Justin says playing felt good. Leah thinks the band loved jamming with him. Back at the house, Theo tells Kirby he wants to kiss her. Kirby wishes there was somewhere they could go, other than the van. Theo says that’s Plan B and calls Justin, who says he and Leah are going to have dinner at Salt. Theo and Kirby arrive back at the Morgan house, kissing passionately. Kirby worries that Justin and Leah could come home or the others could find out but is quickly reassured, taking Theo’s shirt off as they head into his bedroom.

Next morning, Theo and Kirby are making breakfast. Kirby worries about being caught and Theo assures her Justin and Leah went out…at which point they hear them coming back, talking about Buddy stealing someone’s breakfast at the dog park. Theo quickly shuts Kirby in the bathroom and keeps Justin and Leah out of there by offering to bring breakfast in bed in to them. However, then Remi turns up for the van keys. Theo tells Kirby to go now, despite her protesting she isn’t dressed. He hands her a pair of shorts to go with her t-shirt and manages to get Justin and Remi looking the other way while she slips out.

Theo and Kirby walk near her place. Theo says it’s not how he wanted the night to end. Kirby says it was fun but can’t happen again since they promised the others. As Kirby heads off, Nikau approaches Theo and asks for a lift: He’s going to New York to see Bella.
