Debt collectors chase down Mackenzie. Jasmine envies the father she never had. Will Xander and Rose abandon Jasmine?

Extended Summary

Logan is just relaxing on the sofa with a beer when there is a knock at the door. It’s a debt collector, Martin Breamocks, looking for Mackenzie. Logan is none the wiser as Martin give him his card and says she has 24 hours to pay. Logan finds Mackenzie accepting a delivery outside the surf club and tells her about the visit. Mackenzie claims it’s to do with car repayments and she’ll sort it, sending him to have a swim.

Jasmine arrives at the police station to talk to Cash. She tells him about Xander’s visit and notes it’s not his fault but he told her about how their father was a really good dad to him, leaving her wondering why he couldn’t be like that to her. Down on the beach, Xander tells Rose how he could tell what he was saying was hurting Jasmine. Rose says it’s not their fault their dad kept her a secret. Xander thinks they should go. Rose wonders if Jasmine’s actually allowed to turn down the money and offers to call the solicitor. Xander says he will and arranges to meet her later.

At Salt, Mackenzie is on the phone protesting that she’s only a couple of payments behind but then finds Logan behind her and quickly ends the call. She admits thing have been a bit slow lately but says she just needs to transfer her direct debits to another account. Back at the police station, Jasmine notes she only has vague memories of her father but recalls him reading her fairy stories at night and letting her sit on his lap and pretend to drive. She says when he disappeared she thought something bad had happened to him but turns out he was starting over with a new family like she hadn’t existed. Cash wishes he could fix it. Jasmine says she’ll learn to live with it.

At the Diner, Irene and Roo comment on how Marilyn’s looking happier. A man is loitering near the counter as Marilyn serves a young woman. When she opens the till, he grabs a wad of cash and runs out. Rose, who was sat at a table, chases after him, saying to call the police. Nearby, Logan is on the phone arranging to settle Mackenzie’s debts when the thief pushes past him, with Rose still in pursuit. He reaches his car but Rose slams him against it and gets him in an arm lock. Cash and another officer arrive. The thief tries to get Rose charged with assault but Rose has Cash search his pockets and find the money, which is taken as evidence.

At the Diner, Irene, Roo and Marilyn are filling Jasmine in on the incident. Irene and Roo assure Marilyn they’re not worried about the money. Xander arrives and is awkward on seeing Jasmine there. Irene fills him in. Xander says he was just going to meet Rose and tells Jasmine he’s sorry for forcing things and they’re going to head home. Despite Jasmine saying he doesn’t need to, he decides to wait outside. At the police station, Rose rejects Xander’s call as Cash asks for her statement. The thief is brought through, still complaining. Cash cautions Rose about trying something like that again and starts to say she’s not a trained police officer…but Rose finishes it for him, putting her police badge down on the counter. Cash sees her name and asks if she’s related to Jasmine.

Logan arrives back at Salt and tells Mackenzie he’s paid off the debt collector so she doesn’t need to worry. He says she doesn’t need to pay him back but Mackenzie says she will, with interest. Meanwhile, Cash gets Rose to sign her statement. She answers a call from Xander and says they’ll get out of there soon. Cash reveals that he’s seeing Jasmine and sharply tells her about their dad abandoning her. Rose had assumed her parents drifted apart. Cash says Jasmine’s mum died and her father left her at school one day and never came back, telling Rose to cut her some slack before abandoning her.

Cash drops Rose off back in town. He admits the conversation got tense and says he’s sorry for her loss but she and Xander do have common ground with Jasmine. Rose goes over to join Xander and sees Jasmine join Cash. Rose and Xander head to the Diner where Irene and Marilyn praise Rose for her actions and offer her anything she wants on the house. Rose says the police will call them about returning the money and Xander teases her about leaving a good impression.

Mackenzie insists to Logan that she’s going to pay him back. Logan says that it’s her call and Mackenzie says a weight’s lifted. Nearby, Jasmine tells Cash she’s glad Xander and Rose are going and wants to pretend the last few days never happened. Meanwhile, back at the Diner, Xander tells Rose the solicitor told him that Jasmine has to legally accept the money or go through a process to reject it, wondering if they could just send her a cheque with no return address. Rose tells him what Cash said about their father and isn’t sure they should leave Jasmine.

Next morning, Logan and Mackenzie are walking near the beach. They run into Roo and Marilyn and Logan chats to Marilyn about how she’s getting on. Mackenzie has text alerts of final demands. She calls Felicity and asks her to come into Salt to talk about her idea. She then meets up with Ryder at Salt. Ryder says he has an idea: They barely break even Mondays and Tuesdays so maybe they should close then. Mackenzie disagrees, saying consistency brings their customers back.

Cash is woken by Jasmine rifling through the bedside cabinet, taking out a number of momentos including the photo of her with her father. She calls it the first day of the rest of her life and clambers onto the bed, kissing him, but is interrupted by a knock on the door. It’s Rose and Xander. Rose says there’s a change of plans. Jasmine doesn’t look pleased.
