Extended Summary
Jasmine and Cash are near the beach, having just arrived back in town. Cash is slightly worried that they haven’t seen Felicity since her phone message but suspects her idea of an emergency isn’t particularly serious. At the Diner, John asks Irene whether the muffins are low fat, indicating he had trouble getting into his suit for the fundraiser. Marilyn asks if he filled his table and John proudly says he did. Irene drily comments on his organisational skills. Cash and Jasmine come in and Irene welcomes them back. John anxiously checks that they’re still on for the black tie event, not being particularly mollified by there being 24 hours to go.
At Salt, Roo is on the phone to Martha. She asks Mackenzie if they can squeeze an extra table in and Mackenzie notes she already discussed that with Martha last time they spoke. Logan comes in and tries to get Mackenzie to leave work. She points out she took time off yesterday to spend with him but does agree to a brief walk. She mentions the fact that she feels she disappoints him when she can’t spend time with him and that he’s got all this energy. Logan accepts they’re in different places.
Ziggy steals herself before rejoining Dean and Jai. She tells Jai that she managed to find her old sheets with surfboards on for his bed but Jai fails to respond and asks to do some drawing. At the Diner, Alf is also fielding phone calls from Martha wanting to fit an extra table in. John says people should have booked early like him and Marilyn asks what Martha’s wearing. Alf takes the call outside. Irene and Marilyn discuss the unveiling of Martha’s artwork and look sceptical when John says he might bid on it. Nearby, Cash gets a text from Felicity and tells Jasmine that she’s staying at a friend’s.
Dean tells Ziggy that Amber didn’t fill Jai in on the fact that they’re together. Ziggy reveals that she overheard Jai before and decides to give them some space. Dean says that Jai was supposed to be spending time with them but Ziggy says the most important thing is Dean and Jai get to spend time together. Meanwhile, Logan and Mackenzie are pondering what he could do with himself, although the resort idea is there for the future. Mackenzie jokingly suggests she could use him as a waiter for the event, before telling him to spend the day thinking of ways to amuse himself.
Jai is enthusiastic when Dean suggests they watch cartoons together, less so when Dean points out the popcorn Ziggy has made. Dean sends Jai to wash his hands and tells Ziggy she doesn’t have to go but Ziggy is prepared to. Mackenzie finds Ziggy at Salt and Ziggy explains the situation, noting Jai hates her or at least resents her. Mackenzie observes she felt like she had no control when her parents split, and points out Jai didn’t find out Dean was his dad until he was five, then only had a short time living together before having to move out again.
Dean and Jai have finished watching the cartoons. Dean talks to Jai about Ziggy. Jai wishes Dean lived with him and Amber. Dean tells him parents don’t always stay together and asks him to give Ziggy a chance, saying he loves her and hopes Jai will too. Later, Jai is doing colouring at the table. Ziggy talks to him about it and he says he got a merit. Ziggy says she’s really bad at it. Jai says Dean is too and Ziggy suggests he could teach them both. Dean listens from the corridor as Jai asks Ziggy if she really likes Dean and she says she loves him. Jai lets her colour in the border.
Jasmine and Cash are relaxing near the beach. Jasmine suggests going away again but Cash is preoccupied. He admits he’s still worried about Felicity: He expected her to be cutting loose without him to keep an eye on her and sleepovers aren’t really her thing. He puts it out of his mind for now. Meanwhile, Logan joins Mackenzie at the Diner flat and tells her he’s got’visitation rights at Northern District, meaning he’s on call as a casual doctor. Mackenzie tells him she’s managed to cut back her hours at Salt. As they kiss, Logan’s phone rings and he reminds her he said he was on call, before assuring her he hasn’t started yet.
Cash and Jasmine say goodbye outside the Diner. Cash wonders if he could get away with turning up to the fundraiser in uniform before concluding he can wear his best court suit. Irene appears as Cash leaves and comments to Jasmine that things are going well. At the caravan park house, Alf remarks to Roo and Marilyn that finally there’s no sign of bustle in the house: Martha is at the surf club sorting out the name places. They look forward to the event. At the farm house, Dean tells Ziggy that Jai’s asleep. Ziggy wonders if Dean’s in pain and he says it’s the best he’s felt in ages.
Next morning, Cash runs into Jasmine near the Diner and they comment on how they missed each other last night. Roo comes over and asks how Felicity is after everything with Tane. Cash is confused so Roo tells him Tane threw accusations at her in the surf club and caused a scene at her work. Cash goes to call her. Roo heads home where Alf and Marilyn show her a note Martha left behind saying she can’t face the event and to go ahead without her. Alf and Roo worry that they missed signs she was struggling and resolve to find her.
Cash meets Felicity at the Diner and they head out onto the pier to talk. Felicity gives a rather rambling account of how Tane accused him of following Mackenzie to her car, Mackenzie kicked her out of Salt after she warned her off him, and Tane is everywhere she goes, which is why she went to stay at Anne’s, and wouldn’t talk to her about it. Cash says they’ll sort it.
