Extended Summary

Tane is setting up a class near the beach. Jasmine comes past and he greets her but she jogs on, ignoring him. Bella and Nikau come along and Nikau jokingly asks what he’s done. Tane suggests that she didn’t hear him. They discuss Ari and Mia going to the city to talk with the lawyer about the adoption. Bella comments that one wrong decision can follow you around. Tane looks awkward. Later, Bella steers Nikau into the Diner flat with her hands over his eyes and shows him her new room, which she has had decorated. Nikau recalls she wasn’t keen on moving into Colby’s old room before but Bella says it felt right this time. They lie down on the larger bed and quip about having to christen it.

At the Diner, Justin asks Leah if she fancies going to the movie tonight. A horrified John reminds them they’re meant to be on his table at Martha’s fundraiser. Justin reassures him he was joking. Alf, Marilyn and Roo come in and explain about Martha going missing. Roo gets a text that she’s needed at Salt. Irene ends up volunteering to help Alf and Marilyn search while John and Justin go to help Roo. Soon, they’re lugging boxes around at the surf club. John heads off two young women who haven’t seen the “closed for private function” sign outside Salt. Tane appears and takes a heavy box off Roo. He attempts to make small talk but she quickly passes the box on to John. Tane tells him that with work and TAFE he can’t make the event.

Up in Salt, John asks Justin about the position of their table, saying there’s a pecking order to these things and the guest of honour will be on the Stewart table. Roo notes everything seems to be okay. Downstairs, Bella and Nikau are chatting by the board shop. Cash, Jasmine and Felicity come in and make for Salt, but when Cash sees Tane he goes over to him. He hands him a provisional AVO stopping him from going near Felicity. Roo joins Jasmine and Felicity on the stairs as an incensed Tane says he should be taking one out and Felicity’s the psycho. He shoves the paper back at Cash. Nikau steps in and guides him to the gym.

Tane insists to Nikau and Bella that nothing’s happened to justify the AVO. He tells them to leave it. Nikau suggests calling Ari and arranging a lawyer but Tane doesn’t want him to know. He drinks from a bottle, then goes into the office. In the main surf club, John comments that Tane obviously has issues but Justin notes that there’s always two sides. At a nearby table, Roo checks on Felicity before heading back upstairs. Bella and Nikau come through and she talks him out of approaching Felicity. Felicity worries about how angry Tane was. Jasmine suggests it was just the shock and Cash suggests that at least he got the message.

Roo returns home and asks Alf, Marilyn and Irene if they’ve heard anything. She is worried that Martha has taken off again and briefly tells them about the AVO. Alf tells Marilyn and Roo to do as Martha said and make sure the event happens while he finds her. At the Diner, Cash suggests giving the event a miss to keep an eye on Felicity but she thinks nothing will happen and tells him and Jasmine to go to the event. He tells her he’ll keep his phone on anyway.

Roo is keeping an eye on things at Salt as Cash and Jasmine arrive. John approaches them and gives them instructions on where to sit but is cut short when Jasmine compliments him. Leah and Justin arrive and are greeted by Roo, joining John, Cash and Jasmine at the table. Irene joins Roo and Marilyn as they observe the arrival of the VIP guest, weatherman Steve Mac. Roo drags Marilyn over to greet him, calling her Summer Bay’s local celebrity. Meanwhile, someone is drugging the contents of a drinks bottle. They take it to the gym and swap it with Tane’s bottle. Moments later, Tane comes out of the office and takes a swig from it.

Alf is on the phone to Roo as he explores outside. He sees Martha sitting on her own and joins her. Martha worries that she’s messed things up and won’t be able to pull it off. Alf tells her she already has but Martha is disappointed that she’s too scared to show her face. Alf tells her she’s not on her own. Back at Salt, Marilyn is chatting to a bemused Steve about tarot cards while he is getting impatient about Martha not showing up. John comments on his not being the table with empty seats, annoying Irene. Justin tells Leah he’s been thinking of turning Grace’s nursery into a room for Ava, prompting her to walk away. Roo tells Marilyn and Leah she’s going to have to start the event without Martha, but at that moment Martha arrives with Alf and greets Steve.

At the Diner, Bella and Nikau are debating cake purchases. Felicity comes in to get a takeaway. Against Bella’s advice, Nikau approaches her and tries to get her to withdraw the AVO. Felicity says he’s been telling lies about her, making accusations and stalking her. Nikau says that’s not Tane. Felicity says it’s the Tane she knows and he’s getting what he deserves. At the gym, Tane is drinking and feeling dizzy, finally collapsing.

Martha addresses the crowd at the fundraiser saying she’s lived with mental health problems all her life, losing friends and loved ones and nearly herself. As she falters, Alf joins her and says that it’s hard to put into words. They unveil the painting, a somewhat abstract piece with coloured smoke, to appreciative noises. Down in the gym, Tane sees someone come in and asks for help but they put a chemical tank down next to him and lay a rose on him. They turn a sprinkler on, spraying chemicals, and leave. The fumes rise towards an air vent. Up in Salt, Roo presents Steve with a cheque for $48,000, unaware of the fumes coming out of the air vent above them.
