Can Dr Logan Bennett save Dean’s life? The Paratas have a truly horrible day… Will Christian’s proposal to Tori go according to plan?

Extended Summary

Nikau is walking along the road. He stops and falls to his knees but, gripping his toki, manages to get up again. Meanwhile, Mia walks around the car and clambers back in. She tells Dean the rocks didn’t work. Dean wants her to get out of the way but Mia tells him she has another plan and that she was a Girl Guide. She uses the broken mirror to cut the rest of the seatbelts away. Back on the road, Nikau sees a car coming. He waves them down and they stop. Nikau sinks to his knees again.

Tori and Christian are walking through a park area. Tori says Christian should have told her about appropriate footwear, since she’s guessed that they’re going towards the Diner. Christian suggests it might not be that simple. Tori excitedly asks if they’re going on a seaplane. Christian says he should have thought of that, before enigmatically suggesting maybe he did. When they get there, he leads a blindfolded Tori down the pier before showing her the rose petal strewn carpet leading to a champagne meal. Tori is delighted, both with the gesture and with the day. Before they can go further however they both get phone calls and, answering them, say they’ll be right there. They shoot a forlorn look at the meal before heading in the opposite direction.

By the car, Mia is hammering a tree branch into the soil, despite still getting stomach pains. She ties the seat belts together and uses them to tie the car to the branch. She gets back in the car and tells Dean she’s done it, then realises he’s out cold. She hears a helicopter overhead: Inside it is a doctor, Logan Bennett. He is dropped off by a police car which drives him to where a roadblock and several emergency vehicles have been set up. Nikau is being treated by an ambulance officer and urges Logan to go and help the others. Logan checks him over and sees that he’s hypoxic, telling the ambulance driver to load him up.

Logan abseils down to where the car is stuck and greets one of the rescue workers, Sarah, in a mutually teasing manner. Mia is sat nearby. She tells Logan that she has cramps and that she’s pregnant and thinks something’s wrong. Logan examines her and says they’ll look after her at the hospital. Mia says the person in the car is a friend called Dean. Logan climbs into the car with Dean and talks to him, assuring him Mia’s fine. Dean says he’s in pain and Logan arranges some morphine with Sarah. Dean asks if he’s going to die and Logan says not on his watch.

Tori and Christian arrive at the hospital. They are preparing to go and get changed when they see Nikau has just been brought in and go to assist, with the ambulance officer making a joke about their attire. He says Nikau’s short of breath, confused and agitated. Tori asks a nurse to contact his family. Meanwhile, Ari and Mackenzie are walking through the park with Ari worried about Mia. He gets a phone call and tells Mackenzie that Nikau’s been in a car accident and he doesn’t know who else was with him. They both rush off.

Logan asks Dean about himself, getting him to tell him about Jai who he says is six but he doesn’t know where he is right now. Dean slips in and out of consciousness as the rescue workers finally finish cutting through the car. Logan says he’s crashing. Meanwhile, Ari and Mackenzie arrive at the hospital and Tori calls them over to see Nikau. She and Christian explain he has a collapsed lung and head injuries. They manage to decompress his chest. As he is sent for a scan, he mumbles about Dean. Tori admits there wee more casualties but she doesn’t know who.

Dean is now loaded onto a stretcher. As they are preparing to move him, Logan realises he is bleeding out and tells Sarah to get a reboa. At the hospital, Tori and Christian examine the x-ray which shows Nikau has two separate head injuries. Christian orders him taken straight to surgery, telling Ari they need to drain the blood and fluid around his brain. Mackenzie has rung the police to ask for details of the crash. All they could say is that someone is still trapped. Tori tells them that Mia’s there and takes Ari to see her, saying to call out if he needs her. He hugs Mia, who sobs uncontrollably.

Logan has stabilised Dean but says to get the helicopter waiting for them because they have an hour to get him to hospital or he’ll die. Meanwhile, Ari sees Mia off as staff wheel her away, before telling Mackenzie that they lost the baby. He says that Mia and Dean went to pick up Nikau and then they crashed. Mackenzie wonders what has happened to Dean.

Dean is in the back of an ambulance with Logan and a different ambulance officer, being rushed to the helicopter. Dean is still in pain and the officer reports blood pressure is dropping again. As they are unloading him, Dean crashes but Logan says to get him onto the helicopter anyway and he’ll deal with him there. They board the helicopter and it takes off.
