2021 Olympic Return

Dean and Mia’s lives hang in the balance. Christian is set to propose. Ari finds unlikely support from Mackenzie.

Extended Summary

Mia and Dean are still unconscious in the car. Nikau is lying next to a severed car door. He comes round and, despite clearly being in some pain, struggles to his feet. Seeing the car, he staggers towards it. Back in the Bay, Mackenzie finishes a surf before joining Ari on the beach. He notes he looked for Mia but she isn’t at home or the gym. Mackenzie suggests he needs some hangover food and tells him to get a brekkie roll from the Diner and meet her at hers.

At the Morgan house, Justin is despairing somewhat at Leah putting rose petals on Tori and Christian’s bed, which he says will take ages to clean, and lighting candles, which he calls a fire hazard. Marilyn arrives to pick up Grace. Justin realises Tori and Christian are coming back and ushers everyone out the back way. Christian comes in first and Justin gives him a thumbs up sign before leaving. Christian leads Tori in: She is impressed by the romantic meal and Christian says they have the house to themselves for the rest of the day. They dance to the romantic music. Meanwhile, Nikau reaches the car as Mia is coming round. He warns her about the car being on the cliff edge. Mia tries to rouse Dean, who is bleeding. Nikau asks about her phone but it has fallen out of the car and is smashed, while Nikau has lost his. Mia convinces Nikau to go for help.

Justin, Leah and Marilyn arrive outside the Diner with Grace. They run into Ari, who asks if they’ve seen Mia or Nikau and briefly checks on Grace before heading upstairs. Marilyn asks what’s going on and Leah and Justin explain about Christian’s proposal plan, which includes fireworks and serenading. Meanwhile, Christian waits until Tori reappears, having changed into another dress. They dance again and Tori subtly ask if they’re staying there all day. Christian says he wants to get back to normal, which includes impressing her.

Mia struggles to free her seat belt and also to rouse Dean, neither of which is successful. She experiences stomach pains but tries to ignore them, since her moving is causing the car to rock. She tries to stem Dean’s bleeding with her top, then grabs a broken part of the rear view mirror. Meanwhile, Ari asks Mackenzie about Dean and also whether Bella’s likely to come home; Mackenzie says she’s at Irene and Jasmine’s. Ari is unhappy that Nikau hurt her and says he was hard on him yesterday, and it’s just like when they first got there with Nikau pushing him all the time. Mackenzie remembers but says they’ve come a long way since then.

Nikau is struggling back up towards the road, clearly in some pain. He loses his footing and tumbles back down the hill, lying defeated. Meanwhile, Mia has managed to cut through her seat belt with the broken glass. Bracing herself, she manages to clamber into the back of the car, getting stomach pains again. She shakes Dean and does manage to get him to wake up, but his pain causes him to move around and rock the car. Calming him, Mia climbs out of the car and calls for help. Nikau hears and it motivates him to get up and head towards the road again.

Ari is concerned that Mia’s phone keeps going to voicemail and admits he’s overprotective. Mackenzie completes the thought, that it’s because of the baby, and says she’s happy for him and he’s going to be a great dad. Back out in the bush, Mia continues to tend to Dean, who passes out. Nikau reaches the road but is too late to flag down a car and slumps in the middle of the road. Mia manouevres herself so she is standing on the small piece of ledge between the car and the drop. Despite Dean’s protests, she says she’s going to shore up the car. She pushes a large rock and several smaller ones under the car, but the next time it rocks, her wall is sent tumbling down into the gorge. Mia says they’ll have to find another.
