Extended Summary

Dean comes running out with a fire extinguisher and tackles the blazing van as Jasmine gets to her feet. Dean asks her if her head’s okay. Ryder, Marilyn and others get up as well. Ryder calls out for Chloe, who he remembers was standing near the van when it blew. He checks on Bella, who says she’s fine but Emmett is hurt. Ryder continues his search and finds Chloe underneath a piece of the van. He and Dean get the panel off her and find a piece of metal sticking out of her. Jasmine and a newly-arrived Mackenzie join them, as Bella and Marilyn help Emmett, who can’t see, inside. Jasmine stabilises the metal with help from Ryder. Ambulance and fire vehicles arrive and Dean calls them over, with Mackenzie helping clear a path. At the Parata house, Mia tells Ari they need more fruit, vegetables and peanut butter because of her cravings. Nikau arrives and they ask why he wasn’t at the exhibition. He somewhat hesitantly says the shoot ran late and he stayed at a hotel, agreeing to join them for breakfast at the surf club. He gets a text from Sienna with the photo of Bella and Emmett, saying he hasn’t done anything wrong.

Christian tries to check on Tori at the hospital but she says she needs to stay focused and so does he. Chloe is brought in with Ryder accompanying her. At the surf club, Jasmine tries to treat Emmett’s eyes with fluid before putting some pads on his eyes. Since he’s going into shock, Jasmine gets Bella and Marilyn to help her put a blanket over him and elevate his legs. Outside, Ari and Mia are in a panic over Chloe. Dean tells them she’s gone to hospital and Ryder followed in his car, giving them his own car to get down there. Nikau is looking for Bella and Dean tells him she’s inside. Jasmine tells Emmett that another ambulance is on the way. Bella sees Nikau and rushes to hug him.

Emmett is loaded into an ambulance. Bella touches his hand and tells him she’ll meet him at the hospital. Jasmine asks if he has any family they can call. Bella asks Nikau to call Sienna to see if he has an emergency contact and he reluctantly does so. Meanwhile, Ari and Mia arrive at the hospital where Ryder tells them she’s in surgery. Christian and Tori give them an update. Mia accusingly asks why Ryder isn’t hurt. Ryder says he wasn’t as close and, despite Tori crediting him for helping Chloe at the scene, Mia demands to know who was to blame and says it happened because of Ryder’s stupid food truck. Ryder says it should have been him as Ari leads Mia into a quiet corner.

Things are winding down outside the surf club and Mackenzie compliments Dean on helping people. They and Marilyn check on Jasmine, moments before she collapses. Jasmine is rushed into hospital, with Mackenzie accompanying her. Christian and Tori are soon checking her over. They order scans to see if there’s a bleed on the brain. Mackenzie sees Mia and quickly heads in another direction. Not far away, Ari finds Ryder and tells him Mia said what she did because she’s scared. Ari advises Ryder to go home, since he won’t be able to do anything there and it might be good to get out of the firing line and tells his family he’s okay. Ryder congratulates him on the baby. Mackenzie overhears and Ari sees her. Mackenzie awkwardly asks about Chloe and congratulates him before leaving.

Tori is examining Emmett with Bella and Nikau in attendance. She says there’s no debris but he’s had a flash burn to both eyes: The cornea might heal but he might go blind in his left eye. She’s going to transfer him to a specialist eye hospital in the city. Emmett comments to Bella that last night seems to have been his swansong. Bella tries to reassure him. Nikau asks if Emmett needs them to call anyone and he says he doesn’t have any family. Bella hugs him. Outside the surf club, Ryder joins Dean and asks if the police have found anything. Dean sees Mackenzie and, rambling somewhat, she tells him about Mia’s pregnancy.

Tori tells Ari and Mia that the surgery went well: Chloe lost a lot of blood but is going to be okay. She shows them in to sit with her. Christian tells Tori that Jasmine stopped breathing during the scan, which showed a haematoma. She’ll be monitored to see if the bleeding stops, otherwise they’d have to operate. Tori refuses to stop for a rest. Meanwhile, Bella and Nikau have gone up to Salt, still set up for the exhibition. Bella is worried about Emmett. She is bewildered to find her phone near her bag and wonders where Nikau was. Nikau says he went somewhere else because the start time was delayed. Bella says it wasn’t and shows him there’s no texts on her phone. Nikau asks her about the photo and Bella explains she was upset because of him not turning up and it was a hug. She guesses Allegra sent it and doesn’t see the point, since Nikau only had to talk to her to learn the truth. Nikau awkwardly agrees.

Downstairs, Dean reassures Mackenzie over the pregnancy. He sees Ryder and asks if the police have found anything. Dean thinks it was an accident but Ryder vehemently accuses a shocked Mackenzie of being responsible. Dean tells Ryder to walk away but Ryder insists it’s not over. Mackenzie is horrified anyone would think that of her. Soon after, Dean comforts Mackenzie on the pier. At the hospital, Ryder approaches Chloe’s room and Mia nods for him to join her and Ari. Ryder takes Chloe’s hand; she opens her eyes and looks at him. Nearby, Tori sees Christian checking on Jasmine but she is gone when he turns round.

Nikau and Bella arrive back at the Parata house. Bella says she’s going to take a shower. Not long after she’s left the room, Sienna turns up. Nikau asks what she’s doing there and she retorts that he called her.
