Extended Summary

Ryder and Chloe are closing up the food truck outside the surf club. Ryder wonders about what’s on Chloe’s mind and, seeing she’s happy, asks if she’s slashed Mackenzie’s tyres, pointing out Mackenzie’s done something nice for Bella. Chloe tells him that Mia’s pregnant. Ryder says he thought she wasn’t keen on the idea. Chloe says she wasn’t, but it seems right for Mia and Ari. Jasmine comes along on her way to the exhibition and asks Ryder if it’s any good; he says she’ll have to wait and see. Jasmine goes into the surf club but is stopped by a phone call from Christian, who is on the pier and asks why she was glaring at him and Rachel. Jasmine says she found Tori devastated, then saw him cosying up to Rachel. Christian snaps that he’s not engaged anymore. Jasmine retorts that he shouldn’t call her if he doesn’t want her opinion.

Shortly after, Christian is visiting Rachel in hospital and tells her she should be getting out in a couple of days. Rachel is shocked, asking if she’s ready and admitting it feels a bit scary. Christian says he wouldn’t let her leave if she wasn’t ready. Meanwhile, Roo has settled down to read the letter. (At the same time, Kieran is on the beach.) In the letter, Kieran says that Martha was right about him needing to take responsibility but he loves her. He says he wants to rebuild things between them on her terms.

Ryder and Chloe have headed up to Salt, although Chloe is worried about leaving the food tuck outside instead of taking it home. They admire a photo of Nikau, although Ryder jokes he was probably thinking about lunch. Jasmine comes over and gently chides Ryder for letting her worry. Nearby, Bella asks Allegra if she knows what happened to Nikau. Allegra says he said he had something important to deal with. Jasmine interrupts to congratulate Bella and say Colby would be proud. Bella looks for her phone but Allegra still has it and sees a text from Nikau saying that he’s been held back. She texts back saying there’s no rush. At the flat, Sienna tells Nikau that Bella’s on the up and it can be hard to make it work. She notes that she tried with Emmett and implies he had a wandering eye.

Emmett, with Bella at his side, makes a speech about how it’s been a long time between exhibitions: He wanted to take the photography world by storm and make money, but only managed the latter. As he talks, Allegra sees a text from Nikau asking how things are going but ignores it. Emmett credits Bella and her talent with giving him the inspiration. The crowd, including Ryder, Chloe and Jasmine, applaud. Meanwhile, Roo has called Kieran to the house and asks if he meant what he said in the letter. He says he did. Roo worries that his last visit upset Martha. Kieran says he’ll leave if Roo thinks that’s best.

Sienna is trying to go through the itinerary with Nikau but he is more worried about not getting a reply from Bella and says that he has to go, since the exhibition’s important to her. Sienna insists that the limo’s on its way and he should relax. Nikau says he needs Bella. Sienna goes out of earshot, then rings Allegra saying she needs something more. At Salt, Jasmine offers Bella and Emmett her congratulations again, then asks Bella where Nikau is. Bella doesn’t know and Jasmine says he’d want her to enjoy the night. Bella goes over to Allegra, who suggests Nik might have car trouble. Bella asks her to call him. Allegra agrees but then walks away.

Roo is making up a bed for Kieran on the couch, since there are no vans free. Marilyn and Ryder arrive home and are shocked to see Kieran there. Roo says he’s staying. Marilyn feigns being pleased with it, Ryder doesn’t try. When Kieran is out of earshot, he asks Roo if Alf and Martha know about it, but accepts it’s her decision. Roo gives Kieran back the letter for Martha. Meanwhile, Christian pops by Rachel’s room and says they’ll discuss her going home tomorrow, which includes removing the halo brace. Rachel worries that going home will mean seeing less of him and takes his hand. Christian pulls away, saying he loves Tori, and that it is over and yet it isn’t. Rachel reminds him he said she was his reason for being there. Christian says he meant he was spared so he could save her but it’s not romantic, just friendship. Rachel is clearly disappointed. Christian assures her she’s an amazing, strong woman.

Bella is on her own on the balcony. Emmett joins her and tells her the official launch will be great. Bella hopes Nikau’s at that one and says it means nothing without him. Emmett cups Bella’s face with his hands and assures her Nikau worships the ground she walks on. Allegra takes a photo of them. Emmett tells Bella to think of how annoyed Sienna will be. They hug and Allegra takes another photo. Back at the flat, Sienna pours some drinks as Nikau tries to call Bella. Sienna receives the photos and, after a show of reluctance, gives them to Nikau, saying Emmett’s always like this with his muses. She places a hand on his leg, then they kiss. Next morning, Emmett is lying in bed next to Sienna as she wakes up. Nikau says he needs to go, despite Sienna saying it might be more fun for him to stay. Nikau goes to the bathroom, looking guilty.

Meanwhile, Bella and Emmett meet outside the surf club. Bella laments not knowing where Nikau or her phone are. Emmett says they’ll clear up the exhibition first, then worry about it. Ryder and Marilyn approach; Ryder is unhappy about Kieran staying and about Alf’s likely reaction. Chloe hands a flyer to Jasmine and calls out for Ryder to join her, heading towards the food truck. Moments later, the truck explodes, throwing Ryder off his feet. Marilyn and Jasmine are also knocked to the ground as the truck burns.
