Extended Summary

Ziggy stumbles upon Tane packing up after a session and comments on him teaching classes now. Tane tells her that the good thing about being unemployed is you don’t have to get up early, but Ziggy says she doesn’t want to miss out on waves. Ari and Mia pull up on the bike, having just got back to town, and awkwardly admit they didn’t see many sights. Tane says Mackenzie isn’t at Salt so they should go there for breakfast. Ziggy isn’t keen on being bought food again but Tane says he’ll get her a takeaway roll. Meanwhile, a large crowd has gathered outside the Parata house around the pool. Allegra and others are snapping selfies but Nikau is looking awkward, Bella even more so. Sienna wanders around, telling people to try the tacos (before making an aside about the amount of carbs). She tells Nikau to mingle and get in photos, and he obliges by posing with Allegra. Bella gets a call from Emmett, who is at the Diner, and goes inside to take it. He suggests he come over to do the work, since the party’s outside.

Dean arrives back at the flat. Mackenzie greets him in a friendly manner, assuring him there’s no men around and asking about Jai. Dean says he was disappointed not to come there, and says he doesn’t have a problem with Mackenzie seeing guys but should be able to have Jai there. Mackenzie cuts the conversation short, heading off to work. On the balcony at Salt, Tane asks Ari if everything’s okay with him disappearing suddenly. Ari says he and Mia needed a break from all the baby drama. He asks about Tane’s new job. Tane says he doesn’t hate it and can see a future in it.

Tane brings Ziggy her roll. Ari and Mia also appear as Ziggy says she might go to the gym. She promises not to distract Tane but Mia says she’s got the day off so doesn’t care. Mackenzie passes as Ari and Mia are discussing keeping their holiday going and ask where they’re going. They say it’s a staycation. After a few more words of strained politeness, Mackenzie goes inside. Ziggy describes it as awkward. At the Parata house, Ryder complains that people are posing with their food but not eating it. Chloe says it’s paid for anyway. Ari and Mia turn up and ask what’s going on. Bella says to ask the others. Chloe says it’s their first catering gig and Ryder says to ask Nik about anything else, as he and Chloe quickly head outside. Mia notes at least Chloe seems happier.

Outside, Nikau is posing with Allegra and the DJ while Sienna takes pictures. Ryder and Chloe walk in front of her and Chloe attempts to quietly warn Nikau about Ari being there, but then Ari approaches and asks what’s going on. Inside, Bella and Emmett are looking over their photos and decide to make a virtue of the event and shoot some stuff outside. Ari, Mia and Nikau come in and Nikau tries to explain the party away as work. Ari is unconvinced, noting his work colleagues don’t look like that, but eventually accepts Nikau’s explanation and agrees to the party continuing.

Outside the surf club, Tane takes a call from Ari and tells Ziggy about the party. He suggests they go back there. Ziggy thinks Ari will need help with controlling it but Tane thinks Mia will be the one doing that since Ari loves a party. Mackenzie is putting rubbish in the bin nearby and listens in. She goes back to her flat and dolls herself up.

Mia encourages Ari to join her dancing, while both Bella and Emmett are snapping pics, although Bella looks unhappy to see Nikau cosying up to Allegra. Sienna protests that Emmett isn’t the official photographer and tells him to delete a photo of her. Ryder and Chloe hand around their food to various uninterested people including Nikau and Allegra. After Sienna takes Nikau for a chat, Bella approaches Allegra and objects to her hanging off Nikau. Allegra says Nikau’s not her type, then her attention is drawn by Mackenzie, who arrives and makes a beeline for Emmett. At the surf club, Dean finds Ziggy playing pool on her own. Ziggy asks where he’s been, since she’s been short of board wax. Dean explains about being at Amber’s looking after Jai. He offers her the wax but Ziggy admits she doesn’t have the money to pay for it at the moment. Dean wonders why she isn’t at work.

Ryder and Chloe are now manning their food van round the front of the house. They wonder why Mackenzie is there: To mess with their business or for Emmett. Tane appears and overhears them wondering how Mackenzie found out, saying he thinks he knows what happened. Out the back, Ari and Mia watch Mackenzie dancing in front of a clearly uninterested Emmett and wonders if they should rescue her. Mackenzie asks first Nikau and then Sienna for another bottle. Tane joins Ari and Mia and admits Mackenzie heard from him. Mia tries to invite Mackenzie inside for a chat but she refuses. Ari ends up leading Mackenzie away. Bella asks Emmett what’s going on and Emmett says it’s not about him, although he soon has to cope with Mackenzie’s attention again when she refuses Ari’s offer to take her home.

At Salt, Ziggy has told Dean about being fired. Neither of them seem convinced by Justin’s explanation of customer complaints. Dean is happy to shout her beers but then gets a call from Bella and confirms he’s back in town. At the party, Mackenzie tries to get the DJ to play music they can dance to, then asks Sienna what happened to her drink. Dean and Ziggy arrive and Dean tells Mackenzie she needs to go. Mackenzie thinks Ari called him but Bella says she did it, because it’s not about Mackenzie. Mackenzie protests that she’s there with Emmett but he walks away from her. Ari and Dean escort Mackenzie away, getting a lot of attention.

Nikau joins Bella inside the house and thanks her for helping out. Sienna listens in as Bella tells Nikau that she still doesn’t think this is him but has his back. Sienna leads Nikau back outside. Out the front, Ziggy and Tane are catching up. Ziggy explains she was with Dean when he got the call and is reluctant to stay, saying she’s not in the mood. Meanwhile, Mackenzie is storming along the beach with Dean trailing in her wake. Mackenzie is refusing to talk still but Dean stops her and insists they talk.
