Extended Summary

Ziggy and Tane are walking towards the surf club. Ziggy notes she wasn’t really in the party mood and Tane says he has to get back to work. Ziggy considers hanging out at the gym with him and notes she’s had a hard time finding a job and isn’t sure if Justin will give her a good reference. She decides to go and check on Mackenzie. At the Diner flat, Dean offers Mackenzie some water but she says being thrown out of the party sobered her up. Dean tries to talk to her about how she’s handling things but Mackenzie tells him to back off. Ziggy turns up and says she was hoping they could catch up. Mackenzie tells her not to pretend she cares.

Alf and Leah meet up at the Diner. Alf notes they have to hope that Martha’s doctors approve of their coping strategies. Leah reveals that Justin is being discharged from hospital today and agrees it’ll be nice to have him back. Later, at the hospital, Justin watches from a distance as Leah gets final instructions from Doctor Singh, including the fact his medication is to be administered every four hours. Justin doesn’t think it matters since he’s not going to be in hospital.

At the surf club, John sends another text to Susie trying to arrange a meeting: He has only had evasive responses. Stephen turns up, saying he was looking for an update. John tries to deny that he’s been texting Susie again. Meanwhile, Leah and Justin arrive home. Leah explains that Tori’s working a double shift and tells him about Christian moving out. She reminds Justin that the idea is to ween him off his medication and then reassess, and that she’s in charge of giving it to him.

Dean watches on as Ziggy tries to get Mackenzie to talk to her. Mackenzie reminds Ziggy that she threw her out. Ziggy says they could once tell each other everything about their lives and suggests they still can. Mackenzie says Ziggy and Dean should get back together because they sound the same. Ziggy gives up and leaves, with Dean also walking away. Meanwhile, John and Stephen head up to Salt. Despite her not turning up before, John is still convinced he can get Susie to meet with him. Stephen tries to insist he needs to give the texts to the police but John continues to refuse.

Leah has taken Justin out for a walk in a park area and tries to convince him the fresh air is good. She tells him his medication’s not due for an hour and a half. Alf appears and says it’s good to see Justin back. Leah reminds Justin Alf helped find the medication and Alf says they spoke at the hospital. Justin doesn’t recall but insists it was a one-off accident, before chiding Leah for getting Alf involved. Meanwhile, Ziggy and Dean run into each other at the Diner. Dean says he’s not going to apologise for Mac and notes that’s what his life has been like since she moved in. He says he’ll give her space and talk to her when she’s calmed down.

Leah tries to encourage Justin to go to the gym and tells him he can’t have his painkillers yet. Ziggy comes in and asks how the garage is. Justin says it’s fine and Leah adds it’s not as good without her. Ziggy goes into the gym, with Justin saying that means he’s not going there. In the gym, Ziggy tells Tane that both Justin and Mackenzie hate her. Leah comes in and asks to talk to Ziggy, telling her Justin’s not well. Ziggy worries the tumour’s back and offers to find someone to help out at the garage but Leah explains that he’s addicted to the painkillers and not to trust anything he says. Ziggy explains about him saying customers were complaining about her. Leah says he told her letting Ziggy go was a business decision but in reality he was hiding his medication at the garage.

Justin is searching the house when Leah arrives home. She tells him she hasn’t left his medication where he can find it and he can’t have one for another hour. Justin tries to insist that he needs it. At the gym, Ziggy tells Tane she can’t believe that she fell for Justin’s story. She also recalls how Brody had problems with drugs when she first met him. Tane is surprised that she isn’t banging on Justin’s door. Ziggy agrees that’s where she should be.

Dean finds Mackenzie on the pier. She is looking at a video of her being thrown out of the party which someone posted online and says that she understands now that she can’t go on like this. Dean reminds her that he’s done things as bad as her, and if he managed to come back from it, so can she.Later, the two of them are in the flat. Dean suggests she shout him dinner at Salt. Mackenzie says she messaged the person who posted the video and asked them to take it down. Dean promises she can be fixed.

Ziggy calls round to see Leah and Justin and explains Leah told her what’s going on. She says Justin can’t look after the garage for the moment so she’s going to go back to running it. Justin accepts, although he says it’ll only be for a few days and is unhappy Leah spoke to Ziggy. Later, Leah finds Justin searching for pills again during the night. Justin says no-one understands the pain and tries to take the pills from Leah’s pocket. Leah runs into the bedroom and shuts herself inside, crying as Justin sits on the other side of the door, begging for pills.

Next morning, Dean gets up and calls out for Mackenzie. However, a quick search of the flat determines that she isn’t there.
