Martha comes home. Dean searches for Mackenzie everywhere. Can Justin continue his addiction recovery?
Extended Summary
Alf and Roo run into Dean outside the bait shop. He asks if they’ve seen Mackenzie and says to tell her he’s looking for him, leaving her a phone message. Alf gets a call from Martha’s psychologist and asks if they’ve got an answer. At the surf club, John complains to Jasmine about the Paratas’ party and how he was tempted to hose the lot of them down. Jasmine says he should have joined them and suggests he knows a lot of drinking games from his naval days. Dean appears and asks if they’ve seen Mackenzie. Jasmine says she’s not upstairs and awkwardly suggests she might be having a sleepover. Dean says they talked last night and he thought things might be different. He decides to go and check at Ari’s. John asks about the board shop and Dean asks him to keep an eye on it.
Leah joins Justin in the kitchen. He offers her coffee and awkwardly suggests the first day is the hardest. Leah says Tori’s still at work and Justin suggests she’s keeping Grace away from him. Leah gives him his pain medication and says she doesn’t enjoy having to police it. Stephen turns up, saying they’ve got a problem with John. Justin heads into the bathroom and leans over the sink, clearly not doing as well as he made out. At the Diner, Alf and Roo fill Marilyn in on the fact Martha’s coming home. Alf goes to check on the bait shop. Marilyn wonders why Roo isn’t more pleased. Roo worries that they won’t be able to cope and Martha won’t get the support she needs. Marilyn encourages her to look forward to it.
Justin rejoins Leah and Stephen, as Stephen finishes explaining about John texting Susie and not wanting to go to the police. Stephen wants Leah to join him in talking to John but Leah says it’s not a good time. Justin suggests he go with them and go to the gym. Leah offers to join him for his workout but Justin tells her to focus on John. Meanwhile, Dean arrives back at the surf club and opens his board shop. He tells Jasmine that he only found out a bin full of broken bottles and an inflatable pineapple at Ari’s. John says he found two pink flamingos in his garden. Jasmine says Mackenzie didn’t answer her calls and Dean isn’t keen on John describing her as flaky. Leah, Justin and Stephen turn up. Leah suggests she and Justin go for a walk but Jasmine says she’ll keep an eye on him. John guesses Leah and Stephen are there for an intervention.
Alf, Roo and Martha arrive back outside the Diner and are cheerily greeted by Marilyn, who asks Martha how she feels to be back. Martha says she’s happy but it’s a bit overwhelming. Alf suggests the two of them go for a walk on the pier together before getting something to eat. Marilyn again tries to calm Roo. Later, inside the Diner, Martha is telling Marilyn that there were film and games nights. Alf notes she managed to avoid those and Martha admits she was more interested in arts and gardening, also confessing the group therapy could be confronting. She asks what’s been going on there as Alf goes for a refill. Marilyn sits down at the table, announcing she’s taking her break. Roo goes to join Alf at the counter as Marilyn tells Martha all about La Cucaracha.
Up in Salt, John is insisting to Leah and Stephen that there’s nothing to worry about and isn’t happy that Stephen got Leah involved. He insists he’s got things under control and suggests he might be able to get her to give her the money back. Leah asks if he still has feelings for Susie. John denies it and points out they were all fooled by Susie. Leah says he needs to trust them. Down in the gym, Jasmine congratulates Justin on his first workout. Justin suggests she has better things to do than keep an eye on him but Jasmine says it’s fine. However, she then gets a call from Dean and agrees to check if Mackenzie’s in Salt. Once she’s gone, Justin retrieves his phone and slips out.
John says he doesn’t want to go back to how he was before Susie and can’t move forward. He thinks she might want to fix things and doesn’t know what she had to gain by contacting him rather than just disappearing. Stephen insists Susie doesn’t care about anyone. Leah reminds John he experienced love with Gina and Marilyn, asking if he’d really put Susie in the same category. Jasmine comes in and Leah checks Justin’s okay. Jasmine says she’s going back to him now, as she confirms to Dean on the phone that Mackenzie wasn’t there. She finds Justin gone.
Jasmine sends Justin a text wondering where he is, then sees him a few yards away as he finishes ordering more pills on his phone. She notes he left his stuff behind and looks clammy. Justin says he just overdid it and they head back. Meanwhile, Martha is amused at the idea that they’re all investors in the food truck and also that Alf has been persuaded to step back from the bait shop. Alf says he just came in for a refill. Marilyn hurries to serve him as Roo checks Martha is really all right. Martha says she was nervous about coming back home but it feels right.
John finishes a phone call to the police, although he doesn’t seem happy about the situation. Stephen tells Leah it had to be done. Leah hopes the police find Susie and Stephen notes at least he’s made new friends. They go downstairs where Leah joins Justin and Jasmine. Jasmine heads back to the gym as Justin gets a text saying his order will be delivered to the garage. He suggests they go for a walk on the beach.
Dean arrives back at the flat looking for Mackenzie. He rings her phone again but this time hears it ringing and finds it down the back of the sofa, with notifications of a text from him and three missed calls each from him and Jasmine. At the surf club, Stephen realises John hasn’t been to the police yet. John wonders if Stephen has anything to give them but Stephen says he gave everything to the PI. John admits he doesn’t want to go to the police and look like an idiot again. Stephen offers to go with him.
Alf and Martha decide to head for a walk, after Alf checks she wouldn’t rather go home. Roo gets a phone call from an unknown number. After Alf and Martha have gone, she answers it and looks worried. Meanwhile, Dean meets up with Jasmine at the gym and tells her about the phone: Mackenzie usually carries it with her in case someone needs to get hold of her for work and it hasn’t been charged since yesterday. Dean is starting to get worried.
Marilyn finds Roo on the Diner veranda. Roo explains she got a call from Kieran’s lawyers saying he wants to talk to her and notes it couldn’t have come at a worse time. Marilyn asks what she’s going to do.
