Extended Summary
Ziggy is lying on her bed, re-reading the letter tearfully. Maggie comes in and offers her chocolate. Ziggy isn’t keen to talk to her though, saying what happened with Brody earlier was just a stupid fight and nothing to do with the letter. She says she’s going to go and sort it out. At Salt, Leah tells Olivia that she and Hunter aren’t in the same group. Olivia is shocked, asking what that means about their relationship, and Leah reminds her the point of the evening is to meet someone who isn’t Hunter. She also asks to interview her for her website afterwards. Hunter is shocked at the same discovery but Mason is more interested in the girl standing behind him. Mason makes an absurdly faux-casual walk past her to look at her name tag and learns her name is Dempsey and she’s in his group.
Robbo and Ebony are playing pool in the surf club. Robbo attributes his skill to a misspent youth. Ebony says she never had any teen rebellion: She’s there because she wanted a taste of life outside WA, and will eventually have to grow up and use her accounting diploma. She mentions she heard he was in the federal police and claims not to recall who told her, despite Robbo saying not many people know. He says he washed up in Summer Bay. Tori and Ash pass them and Tori exchanges brief pleasantries. Up in Salt, she tells Ash Ebony was the girl who sued Justin and wonders about her recovery. Ash wonders if her main concern is the fact she’s spending time with Robbo, which seems to bother him. Nearby, Mason is chatting to Dempsey and learns she’s training as a midwife at Northern Districts. He explains he’s a fifth year medical student there. Dempsey jokingly ends the conversation before saying that since he’s not a doctor yet there’s still hope.
Ziggy turns up to see Brody and asks him to hear her out. She says she does love him and the proposal wasn’t just because of the letter, that just clarified things. Brody says he does want to marry her but thinks she wants a wedding day rather than a marriage. Ziggy asks him to come back to the celebration but Brody says the engagement’s off. Back at Salt, Olivia is chatting to Raj who is also in the fashion business…he works in a shop. Olivia tries to be nice about the label, but Raj says she doesn’t have to be since he just sells it. Nearby, Hunter is chatting to Suz, who stops him taking some food, explaining she’s a nutritionist. She realises she’s coming across as the fun police and Hunter convinces her to “go mad”.
Ebony traces one of Robbo’s tattoos with her finger to distract him from taking his shot. Ash and Tori come down and Tori asks to chat to Robbo in private. Ash introduces himself to Ebony but declines her offer to take Robbo’s shot, calling to Tori that he’ll meet her outside. Tori tells Robbo to be careful and is confused when he says he’s on top of it. After Tori has gone, Ebony asks Robbo about Colby’s meeting. Robbo pointedly says they’ll find out who’s behind it, then arranges to meet her the next day. Meanwhile, Ash and Tori arrive back at the Morgan house. Ash is bothered that Tori still feels the need to look out for Robbo. Brody comes through and admits his celebration didn’t quite go to plan. Ash says he’s going to spend the night in his van.
Back at Salt, Mason and Dempsey are continuing to get on well. Mason finishes telling a story about zucchini. Dempsey says she has similar stories that she might tell on a second date. Hunter calls Mason over, complaining that Suz is about to ask him for a date. Mason feigns shock at the idea and accuses him of comparing her to Olivia before suggesting he just makes his excuses and chats to someone else. Before he can get back to Dempsey, Olivia comes over to complain Raj called her a PC lefty hipster for not agreeing with mass marketing. While Mason is telling her to vent to someone else, Dempsey leaves. Back at the farm house, Ben finds Ziggy in her room and says Maggie told him about the letter and he can see why Brody is upset. Ziggy says that wasn’t the only reason she proposed, the letter just made her realise life is short. She tells him the engagement’s off.
Next morning, Ben goes round to see Brody. Brody says he’s not having the best day and Ben says it’s not good for Ziggy either. He suggests Ziggy’s reasons for proposing weren’t wrong but unconventional and says life with an Astoni woman is adventurous and frustrating, not easy and simple. He points out he and Maggie married when they were young and she was pregnant but twenty years on they’re solid, and that it’s clear Brody and Ziggy love each other. Brody heads down the beach where he meets up with Ash. He queries his and Tori’s falling out and Ash says they’re trying to work through things. They notice Robbo and Ebony going for a walk further along the beach.
Brody returns home and finds Mason, who says he met someone at the singles night but blew it thanks to Hunter and Olivia. Tori emerges and admits she couldn’t sleep after her fight with Ash. She says he was bothered by Robbo and Brody notes he was eye-balling him on the beach. Tori is alarmed. Shortly after, she rushes into the Diner to find Ash and asks where Robbo is. Ash, of course, doesn’t have a clue and Tori continues to dig herself a hole until Ash realises what she thought.
Ben, Maggie and Ziggy arrive outside the surf club; Mason messaged Ziggy to meet him there and she thinks he’s going to have a go at her or give her some things back. Brody emerges from hiding from behind a vehicle and signals for Mason to unfurl a banner from the surf club balcony that simply reads “Yes”. Brody and Ziggy happily embrace. Further along the beach, Robbo and Ebony are still walking with Robbo admitting he doesn’t know what to make of her. Ebony responds by kissing him, which Robbo responds to; Alf witnesses it. Ebony says she’ll see him later and walks away. Alf asks Robbo what it was about and he admits he doesn’t know.
At the Morgan house, Ash and Tori are arguing. Ash says he’s trying to change but Tori has a low opinion of him. Tori attempts to deny it, but when Ash asks why she thought the worst of him, she blurts out that she doesn’t trust him.
