Extended Summary

Rachel rushes over to Belle to find that she isn’t breathing, and doesn’t have a pulse. Tony and Rachel start CPR and Belle is rushed into emergency amid fears of great concern. Nicole, who along with Miles has been with Roman all day, is shocked to see Belle arrive along with Rachel in her wedding dress. Nicole rushes home to tell Aden what has happened.

Gina sits, reeling after Xavier’s admission that Brendan caused Roman and Leah’s accident. Hugo arrives home and Xavier is forced to confess to him. Hugo is furious and accuses Xavier of covering the accident up to save his own skin- not Brendan’s. Xavier implores that he was only trying to stop Brendan from going to jail. Gina tries her best to diffuse the situation, reminding Hugo that he too made mistakes in his youth. Hugo heads out for a walk where he sees Alf. Alf comments that he hopes Belle’s collapse didn’t upset Brendan, and when Hugo tells him that Xavier had already taken Brendan home, Alf comments on his admiration for Xavier and his bond with Brendan.

It’s touch and go as the team work furiously to resuscitate her. Along the way Belle suffers a seizure and it seems things are going from bad to worse but eventually Belle is revived and stabilised. Rachel tells everyone the news, and when asked whether it was something Belle took, she simply states that they can’t be 100% sure. Aden takes this as a yes, and knowing that Belle is stable, he leaves the hospital fuming. Once conscious Belle apologises to Rachel for ruining her wedding day, but Rachel is far more concerned about Belle’s well being. Belle won’t acknowledge the severity of what has happened to her and is convinced this has been her wake up call.

Rachel tells Belle that she needs help, and she will be admitting her to a rehab facility as an involuntary patient. Belle is devastated. Geoff comes to apologise to Belle for the way he treated her but Aden is all that is on Belle’s mind. When she asks Nicole to call him, she regretfully tells her that Aden was at the hospital but left when he knew Belle was okay. It’s another blow for Belle as her world comes crashing down.

Xavier overhears Hugo telling Gina that Xavier wouldn’t be able to handle the consequences of causing the accident any better than Brendan would- Xavier is furious. Hugo decides they can’t go to the police, at least not until they know whether Brendan would be held accountable for his actions. They decide he will return with Gina to her place while they decide what to do. That night Xavier learns that Roman has woken up and makes the decision to ring the police station.

Leah is filling Roman in on Tony and Rachel’s honeymoon as he lies lifeless in his hospital bed. Suddenly he stirs, and then stirs again. His eyes open and Leah is overjoyed – she rushes to get the doctor. Roman is examined but although he’s awake and has his eyes wide open, he can’t see anything. Dr Young informs a shocked Leah, Nicole and Aden that Roman is suffering from blindness. At this stage there is no way of knowing whether it will be permanent.
