Extended Summary

It’s playtime down on the beach with Bill but when Luke says it’s time to go, he doesn’t want to, so Fin agrees to look after him. Luke goes to pay his rent as Damian decides to go and thank Laura for helping him with his exercise plan. Pippa’s a bit concerned but Michael thinks it will be okay this time because she did seek him out. Fin takes Bill to the Diner for a milkshake and spots a new Mel Gilson film in the paper and offers to take Bill with her. Shane gets a hostile reception when he comes in and Bobby tells him to take his drink outside. At the Surf Club, Adam in keen to work full-time at the kiosk and tries to get Alf to talk to Michael, on his behalf but Alf doesn’t trust him and refuses to do it. Shane arrives and Alf has a go at him before leaving the two unscrupulous pair, licking their wounds. It doesn’t take them long to have a laugh about the eventful night and Shane boasts about Sarah dumping Tug, which made it all worthwhile. When Michael arrives to open up the kiosk, Adam approaches him about hiring him, but it promptly turned down and is reminded that his time at the boat shed finishes the next day.
When Luke returns home, Bill can’t wait to tell him that he’s got a date with Fin and they’re going to the pictures. Luke looks worried and tells him he’s just got to pop out for a moment and goes over to talk to Fin about it. She tries to explain there’s nothing to worry about but Luke insists that she can’t take him and he goes back to talk to Bill. Fin talks to Pippa about it and thinks Luke is being narrow minded and although she puts over a good argument, Pippa advises her to stay out of it. Luke makes a very bad job at trying to explain to Bill why he can’t go to the movies and resorts to telling him a white lie – Fin has too much homework to do.

When Damian goes over to thank Laura, she’s not pleased to see him. She’s having trouble with her car and he offers to help but she tells him to go away. He returns later with the proper tool to change all the spark plugs for her but when she comes out of her house, she has a go at him again. He stands up to her and is about to leave, when she offers to make him a cup of tea and he limps into the house, after her.

Down at the Diner, Adam’s desperate to find work because his rent’s due in a couple of days and tries to borrow some money from Shane but he’s broke. Bobby comes over to serve them and warns Shane to behave or he’s out. Adam tries to broach the subject of the rent to Bobby but he backs down when he realises it’s not a good idea to tell her he hasn’t got it. Bill is having a milkshake at the counter and when Fin suggests they go down to the beach later, she’s shocked to learn about the homework fiasco. Bobby returns home to find Shane there with Adam and she tells him to leave because it’s Tug’s home and he’s not welcomed. The subject of rent comes up again and Bobby intimates if he can’t pay, he’ll be out but he assures her, there won’t be a problem. Meanwhile, Fin’s furious with Luke and tells Pippa and Michael about it when she gets home and although they think she’s justified in being annoyed, they advise she doesn’t interfere. Damian comes in and tells them about his meeting with Laura and decides to ask her to train him but when he goes over to put it to her, she turns him down flat.

Fin forces the issue about taking Bill to the movies by telling him she’s finished all her homework and is free to take him. Luke is furious and tells Bill to take the rubbish out and then confronts Fin and she tells him the only way he can stop her, is to tell Bill the truth.

Damian comes back disappointed and tells them what Laura said. A phone call from Alf that vandals have destroyed the Surf Club during the night has Michael rushing down to survey the damage.

It ends with Shane arriving, as Alf tells Michael that they’re not insured and Shane thinks Adam must have been responsible because he joked about it, being a way to get work for himself…
