Episode 603

Grant is wearing some incredibly short shorts as he and Jane are getting ready to leave the flat for a run, and have an innuendo filled conversation about dinner. They run past Sophie, Karen and Blake on the beach, and Karen has a go at Blake for not saying hello. Blake says he gave Grant a chance and he’s not getting another one. Grant tells Jane that Blake is a bit of a worry.

At the Stewart house, Bobby tells Ailsa she didn’t really go to the Gold Coast but stayed with Narelle to get used to the idea of being pregnant. The father is Chris Reynolds, the creep from the dating agency; there hasn’t been anyone else since Frank. Bobby wants to keep the baby and doesn’t want it growing up the way she did. She refuses to tell Chris about the baby; she’s going to raise this baby by herself and doesn’t need his support.

Grant and Jane buy cat food from the store and Alf says things must be serious; apparently getting a cat means they’re stuck together forever! They leave and Donald tells Alf he wishes those two weren’t living together. Alf says they have to move with this times as kids don’t think that way any more but Donald says that’s even more reason for teachers to set an example.

Bobby tells Ailsa she always dreamed about having a baby one day, and when Al Simpson used to get stuck into her she would promise the baby that she would never do anything like that to her. Blake and Karen arrive home and Bobby gets up to leave. Now the hard part… telling Donald!

Jane’s vegetarian cooking is a disaster and she doesn’t see the point of trying again. Grant tells her that vegetarians make far better lovers! Jane tells him to prove it and Grant says he intends to.

At home, Donald has had a phone call about Grant and Jane from Doris Peters, who hasn’t been seen since the pilot episode! Bobby sarcastically says it must be hard for Doris lying awake at night worrying that people might actually be happy. Donald says he agrees with Doris; in a small town like Summer Bay you have to set a good example. He asks Bobby if she wanted something but she loses her nerve.

The following morning, Alf and Ailsa are in the kitchen, wondering if Bobby has told Donald yet. Alf recalls how poorly he handled Roo’s pregnancy. He feels Sorry for Bobby but Ailsa says Bobby is happy and wants to keep the baby. Alf agrees with Bobby; he can’t help feeling he’s missing out, knowing he has a granddaughter out there who he’ll never hear from. One day, Alf! In the dining room, Blake overhears that Bobby is pregnant.

At the Diner, Bobby tells Ailsa the timing wasn’t right to tell Donald. Jane comes in, and she needs meat! She orders a hamburger and asks them not to tell Grant.

At the school, Karen questions the date Donald claims slavery was abolished. Donald insists Karen is wrong and Blake gets defensive. Donald sends them both out of the room and puts them on playground detention. Blake mutters, wondering if he will put Bobby on detention as well. Donald demands to know what he means. After the break, Grant finds Karen and Blake in the corridor and wants to know why Donald has taken off, leaving the rowdy class.

Ailsa and Bobby are discussing ultrasounds at the Diner. Bobby doesn’t want to know if it’s a boy or girl. Donald arrives and asks if it’s true. Bobby says yes and Donald is angry that he found out from a couple of students. Bobby says she knew he would carry on exactly as he is doing now. Bobby’s theme starts to play as Donald tells Bobby he’s angry about how he found out, not because she’s pregnant. He is proud that he’s going to become a grandfather. Bobby is taken aback and they hug.
