Adam destroys Marilyn’s English essay. Who is the father of Bobby’s child?

Extended Summary

At the school, Marilyn asks Grant for a lift to the beach house. He tells her that he and Jane are moving into the flat today and Marilyn asks if Mr Fisher knows.

Ailsa gives Bobby the third degree at the Diner as she thinks there’s something she’s not telling her; she has been snapping at everyone since she got back from her “holiday”. Bobby later has a go at Carly because they’ve run out of pumpkin soup and she doesn’t want a hamburger for lunch.

Grant and Jane carry stuff into Matt’s old flat and Grant says Donald looked down his nose at him when he told him they were moving in together. Jane has finished her final police shift and Grant asks if she is happy. Jane says yes but the look on her face would suggest otherwise. Grant asks what she’s going to do for work now and Jane says something will come up.

Marilyn is typing an essay on a typewriter at the beach house and doesn’t think she has time to clean the house as well. Adam offers to do it if she and matt pay him for it since he’s a professional. Marilyn reminds him that they let him stay rent free and Matt suggests he pay them back by doing the cleaning. Marilyn finishes her essay and foolishly leaves it on the table before leaving the house. She puts her notes in the bin but thinks better of it and picks them back up before leaving the house.

Bobby lays into Carly again for undercharging a customer. Carly is sick of Bobby’s attitude so Bobby fires her! Ailsa demands to know what really happened at the Gold Coast but Bobby still isn’t giving anything away. Meanwhile, Carly complains about it to Alf at the store. Jane is buying groceries and has seen an advert on the window for kittens. She plans to buy one as a surprise. Carly tells her to call Grant first but Jane thinks she’s overreacting.

Matt takes a look at Adam’s cleaning supplies and leaves the cap off a bottle as Adam discovers and funnel web spider and vacuums it up. In the commotion, the cleaning solution unsurprisingly gets spilled all over Marilyn’s essay. Adam says they’re going to have to re-type it but the ink has run. Matt remembers the notes but Adam has emptied the bin and assumes the notes are in the incinerator. Matt suggests they get a book of essays from the library and copy one (because nothing could possibly go wrong with that idea!).

Ailsa shuts the Diner so she and Bobby can talk, but Bobby isn’t interested and bites her head off. Ailsa remembers the one time she couldn’t face hamburgers was when she was pregnant. Bobby’s reaction confirms Ailsa has hit the nail on the head.

Grant is at the store and Alf tells him there’s a surprise in store for him but his lips are sealed. Marilyn runs in and apologises for being late but she also needs to go to Mr Fisher’s house to hand her essay in as he wasn’t at school. Back at the beach house Adam is (slowly) typing the essay as Matt dictates from a textbook. Marilyn comes in, looking for her essay. Matt and Adam tell her they will take it to Mr Fisher for her because they should help her out more. Marilyn is appreciative and leaves. The guys finish the essay by summing up that the answer is “yes”, despite not knowing what the question was!

Grant finds Jane peeling veggies and suggests they go out tonight but Jane wants to spend time in their new home. She suggests Grant unpack some boxes. He opens a box and finds the kitten. He’s clearly not happy.

At Summer Bay House, Bobby has apologised to Carly and given her her job back but Carly still wants to know what the problem is. Bobby promises she will be the fourth to know as there are people she needs to see first! Bobby goes to see Ailsa at home, where we see the redecorated living room with new furniture and fireplace for the first time. Bobby’s theme plays as they hug. Bobby confirms Ailsa was right, and Ailsa asks who the father is. Bobby tells Ailsa she’s not going to like it.
