Guard Jones was first seen helping Ric when he had been attacked in his cell by Johnny Cooper and his gang.He offered to get Ric transferred to another part of the prison if he helped get evidence that Johnny was involved in drug dealing.Although initially reluctant, after further bullying Ric agreed.He gave Jones the nod when he saw another prisoner passing something to Johnny but it turned out to be chewing gum. Jones then confronted Ric with a stash of drugs that had been found hidden in his cell and told him to keep his head down and mouth shut from now on.Afterwards, he was seen taking a bribe from Johnny.

When Ric saw Jones sharing a joke with Johnny, he realised who had set him up and shared the information with Alf.While Alf and Morag worked to expose Jones with conventional methods, Matilda and Cassie came up with a more unorthodox idea:They had Lucas disguise himself as one of Johnny’s gang and approach Jones, telling him that the gang member who had killed Rocco was on the verge of breaking and going to the police.Although angry about being accosted in public, Jones passed the message on to Johnny who rang the gang member in question, Jase…unaware that Ric had paid another prisoner to eavesdrop and get the man’s identity.

With Jase already in custody, Peter brought Jones in for questioning.Jones was unconcerned, confident that no-one would take a gang member’s word over his, but Peter informed him the witness against him was a local businessman’s son, practically a Boy Scout, and brought in Lucas, looking very unlike a gang member and now minus his fake gang tattoo.Peter told Jones that he would lose his job and that his only chance of avoiding prison and the treatment an ex-prison officer would receive there was to co-operate. Jones was quick to make a full confession.
