Holly Chapman

Holly was a Summer Bay High student with an unhealthy attachment to Zac and a dislike of Rosie: According to Rosie, Holly had never forgiven her for beating her in a spelling bee at primary school. She overheard Zac and Rosie discussing the fact Rosie was pregnant and mocked her, saying she couldn’t even look after herself. She befriended Maddy, who was on distant terms with Spencer, Sasha and Rosie at the time, but even Maddy was disturbed when Holly flirted with Zac in class and then claimed to Maddy that Zac would be better off with her than his girlfriend Natalie, insisting they were going to be together.

Holly got into an argument with Spencer and Sasha after mocking Rosie at the Diner and tried to convince Zac to give her private tuition. When he turned her down, she blamed Rosie, saying she was taking up all Zac’s time, and was convinced that a stream of consciousness assignment was Zac’s way of getting her to tell him how she felt. Zac took the resulting piece straight to Bianca, who asked Holly about it. Zac approached Holly on seeing her upset and she tried to kiss him. When he turned her down, she went to Bianca and claimed Zac had tried to kiss her and had scared her. Maddy told Bianca what Holly had been saying and that she thought she was making it up, but Holly refused to drop the complaint, telling Maddy that no-one would be friends with her now, and repeated the allegations to the press.

Holly approached Maddy in the surf club and told her that Spencer and Sasha, who she was now back on good terms with, were seeing each other behind her back. Maddy dismissed the claim but then Holly videoed Spencer and Sasha kissing and showed it to her. Her complaint against Zac was largely dismissed, especially since Bianca gave him an alibi for some of the alleged incidents, but Holly responded by buying drugs and planting them in Zac’s room to be discovered by the police. Leah tried to counsel her, suggesting she work out what she wanted and go for it, but Holly’s response was to tell Zac that she’d confess to planting the drugs if he slept with her.

However, Zac had no intention of going along with Holly’s demands, making it clear that he’d rather go to jail. Shattered, Holly called Zac to meet her on the edge a cliff and wandered back and forth along the edge, asking him why he didn’t want her. Zac tried to talk her into coming away from the edge, also managing to answer a call from Bianca so she overheard and came to join them. Holly told Zac that her mother wouldn’t speak to her and her father didn’t care about her anymore, before letting him pull her to safety and breaking down in tears. She was taken away in an ambulance, presumably for psychiatric care, and apologised to Zac, who told her she’d get better and find someone who loved her.

Having found Holly’s confidential files, Bianca told Zac and Leah the full story: social services had suspected Holly was being abused by her father but hadn’t been able to prove anything. The investigation had scared him into stopping, but that resulted in Holly feeling he didn’t love her anymore, hence her latching on to Zac.
