Roger Oakley's break in 1989

Why did Roger Oakley take an extended break in 1989?

 

I've heard something went on between Roger and the producers which led to either him quitting or being sacked the following year, but I am just wondering if that applied to his break as well? It did seem to happen rather sudden

I thought it was just for storyline reasons?.

Don't remember sorry but it was after Dodge saga!.

The stroke was in Ep 390 (8th September '89). He came home from hospital in Ep 441 (21st November '89)

That's not actually very long before his eventual exit then, and it's quite a big chunk of time. Interesting...

I'm guessing he felt burned out AND wasn't seeing eye-to-eye with the producers.

Tom Fletcher was like Max Ramsay, the main original character of a soap who had a pretty short self life. Roger may have taken an extended break then during so he decided to leave for good. I have heard he did not get on with the producers.
