Leah/Brax

Recommended Posts

She even has a stepson, Ryan that could move back in with her and who knows how many teens Vinnie could have fathered when he was on witness protection? they could turn up on her door step in 10 years time.

Wow, that's an interesting idea. If he fathered a child soon after leaving SB they wouldn't be much younger than VJ, then they could return in only around 5 years as he joins the real teen group.

There's still plenty of potential for Leah, Brax, whether it would last or not has the potential to turn Leah happy which is what she needs.

Really? Brax? Brax has the potential to make Leah happy? Brax the drug-dealing, gangster with ongoing severe emotional problems following the shooting of his girlfriend - in Leah's house?

He's probably the least likely man in the world to make anyone happy, and you think he's a match for Leah?

I agree that she still has potential, and apart from any relationship with Brax, your suggestions are very valid. When VJ really becomes old enough to be considered part of the teen group I think we'll see some real development of Leah as a character (I hope we will). I wouldn't completely write her off, I'm just saying that currently the writers aren't taking advantage of her true potential.

But you have to understand that she will probably be in the background next year and I think by 2014 she will be the centre of storylines again.

Up to the writers but fans want to see Leah have storylines and they also want her to be happy, Brax has a huge fanbase and they want to see him happy why not both be happy together? I felt for Leah when she felt for Brax :( It's up to the writers but they dont have to have a miserable relationship.

's a long time ago now but I actually started to get put off by Leah during 2004. During her relationship problems with Jesse she became quite a depressing character (in a irritating way to me), always crying, being dreary. It was so different to what she had been from 2000-2003 (quite an optimistic, happy go lucky type of character, even quite comical) and I didn't welcome that change, but she was still a favorite.

Then she started to take a real backseat, as Sally started to become more prominent - Leah from 2005-2009 really didn't do all that much, but even though she wasn't doing that much, I really liked her again - she became quite a pleasant character (still not the same as the original Leah but a nice character anyway).

I remember how much we were all complaining about how under used she was in 2009. 2010 came and they seemed to bring her right back to the forefront with the introduction of Elijah and I genuinely enjoyed the character again. They were both written well and setting them up for a great romance. I really liked all of the early days stuff when she met him and she kept getting flustered. Them he left and then came back. The come back wasn't written well and any 'spark' they had, had sort of disappeared for some reason.

I don't feel as though you've understood my point. Brax is an intrinsically miserable character, how exactly will he make Leah happy? Miles couldn't.

I agree, 2010 was a good time for leah. She not only became a central, important member of the cast again, but she was likeable. They really messed up Elijiah's return, and that is why it didn't work and he was axed.

I actually really liked her relationship with Miles until they put her through another miscarriage. It was a terrible thing to happen to the character once again, but I found the way she treated Miles as a result disgusting. He was grieving too, but it was as though it didn't matter. She never really acknowledged his feelings, and has since been a very selfish character. She is no longer the kooky, comical character she used to be, she just involves herself in other peoples business (Ruby's 'pregnancy') and bangs a drum over how misunderstood Brax is.

We are in early 2011 season here, but I have seen several eps from later 2011 and 2012.

I actually liked Leah the most from 2003-2009. Leah with Vinnie was a bit weird for me, because she was running away from a wedding, and then she suddenly started to go to high school, and then she became very teen-like. And I was confused about who she was meant to be. But still, she and Vinnie did had some enjoyable moments here and there. But then I really liked her with Jesse. And I loved her with Dan. I even liked her when she was in the background in the australian 2008/09 seasons. She was still a very important key character and did connect several characters with each other, which is important. And I think that the viewers aren't good enough to appreciate these kind of characters. Without them the show will fall apart, and the community feeling will be gone. I actually think that from late 2009, the writers haven't been good enough to take care of these key characters, and the Summer Bay community feeling isn't there anymore. And I feel that Leah has been written all over the place since early 2010 season, and I think they have destroyed her, first with Elijah, then with Miles and Brax.

I really didn't like her with Elijah, not even the first time around. I felt they were put together just to satisfy the critisism of lack of cultural diversity. But the characters had nothing in common, except from that they weren't born Australian. And it happened way to fast. He was far too old for her, he had a different way to behave and the characters personalities didn't suit each other. He was too goofy for the more edgy Leah. Elijah was far better when he was talking to Alf or Miles, and he was especially good with Marilyn. Leah needs a man with more edge, but also some passionate and deep. She need someone we can see her laughing, crying and arguing with. Brax from what I've seen of him, do have edge but he isn't deep and passionate enough. He is too dark. And I don't think that someone like Leah is going to be with a guy like Brax. Leah can't be put together with a character written with sensationalism like Brax. She needs a deeper and better build character.

I liked her with Roman in 2009 season but that storyline was cut short, because the writers/producers axed him because they thought that he wasn't sensationalistic enough.

They need to bring in someone new for Leah, and we need to get into his backstory before the romance starts. I think that is wrong with the show after 2008- that the characters are pushed together, without any backstory. We don't know the characters like we used to do.

That was actually when I went off her character. I couldn't believe how horrible she was to Miles when he had lost a child too, and then it was just brushed under the carpet and she didn't even really seem sorry. Ever since then I think she has had an air of selfishness to her that has really been heightened recently.

Ok, well what? Just write Brax and Leah to be happy, and done? It doesn't work as easily as that unless we forget all the development of his character so far.

maybe they'll take her maternity leave as a chance to brainstorm bigger ideas for her?

I think that would be a really good idea. I hope she comes back refreshed, ready for some light-hearted storylines that don't involve her interfering in other characters lives.
