  1. I would like it if he could learn how to say tattoo instead of taddoo.
  2. Yeah there was the bit of the corridor we saw when Angel & Maz got locked in the store room, but we never actually saw how they got from that to the diner.
  3. I realised about the other side, I always just thought with the door being at the back of the diner that it went to the back. I wonder why they never decided to burn down Summer Bay House on the show. They had the footage of the fire didn't they and they have had plenty of disasters in the years since. I'm glad they didn't though.
  4. Was Maz's salon meant to be on the right hand side? I always thought it was on the back. That makes more sense now.
  5. Well that question has now been answered, the trellis has indeed been added to the verandah and it works rather nicely. More-so than the old version actually, considering the shape never matched the interior, and it also explains why the porch on the interior set is now larger. Didn't hide that extra door though They're using that door as the side door, I guess. Really they needed to turn that one into a window. And today's ep confirmed that yes they are using that door as the 'main' door. I don't think we've seen much of the Summer Bay House interior, but does the trellis cover the door on the interior? Looking at the sunlight on Roo's face in today's 5* episode as she looked out of it I don't think it does.
  6. The stairs themselves are part of the issue though as they wouldn't be anywhere near one side of the restaurant, they'd be right in the middle.
  7. I guess the issue they have is that if the extend the trellis then people can't exit through that side gap.
  8. It'd be nice to have one of Bobby & Ailsa too.
  9. I've also been looking at the Surf Club exterior & the Angelo's set. Does that really not work or is it just me? The upstairs on the exterior is over the gym and the pool table side of the club, not the gelato bar side, but that would mean that the stairs up to Angelo's on the interior set would actually sit somewhere in the dining area rather than where they do. I'm not really sure where to put this, but here seems as good a place as any to ask... There's a photo of two women hanging up in the Diner by the door to the deck, is it Leah & Irene?

Actually, having looked at that scene, the thinned out bushland actually lets you appreciate the beauty of that land more, whereas before it was more about the beauty of the house. Now if only the roof were red...
  11. Why would Don have needed a five bedroomed house at the time he bought it? Lucky he did I suppose.
  12. Brilliant - is she on Twitter?
  13. Did Leah never have a scene in the original caravan park? Surely she did when Ted was around. Hopefully they at least put some trellis in front of that door.
  14. What is that green washing up liquid looking concoction everyone drinks in the Diner?
  15. I was trying to think why that wouldn't work....but couldn't come up with a reason Guess it would just be that same corner of the house again, instead of a lack of porch it'd be a lack of patio. Interesting idea though I think I'd prefer it to stay as it is Oh yeah, it'd be a big change after 27 years to suddenly have the house turned around and actually if they did like they did with the Pier Diner before the Australia Day riot they could actually construct some false walls and a porch when they're filming to make that side match the interior set.
  16. Ah yes, at first glance I just presumed it was Angelo's. It is annoying when people start criticising whilst being ignorant of the facts, but I guess for people who've only started watching in the past 10 years and haven't seen our Locations page or suchlike, it probably is understandable. Correct me if I'm wrong as I haven't watched closely for a few years, but the rare times we have seen stock shots of the house over the past 12 years, I'm sure it's only really been these two shots: Thinking about my previous comment about upscaling the old footage, they'd already been filming in 16:9 for 2 years before the house burnt down, so it may be the case that those were the only shots they'd done in that format during that time - and as such the only ones considered for upscaling to HD with all the older ones being 4:3. Unfortunately they're just not the best ones to show off the house, but then hindsight is a wonderful thing. To go from those foliage filled side views to these vast wide shots at the front of the house probably would be a bit jarring to those not familiar with it. I guess the unfortunate lack of foliage nowadays also does make it that little bit harder to believe it's right next to the beach (the land is supposed to border onto it), but no-one can hold that against them. *inserts one of those annoying, vague, possibly knowing winks* I'm fairly sure there was one the same as the bottom shot but in daytime as well. It looks so good with the red roof. Anyone fancy a trip down under to paint the town red? ;-) Thinking about it as well, they could always turn the house around in the interior, so say the front door was the side door they always use - it might actually fit the set a lot better.
  17. I agree, but these changes do often seem to come at a time when the characters would be least likely to change things given what is going on in their story.
  18. It's true, but it's the same with most things in life, people do tend to look back and just remember the extremes and not the times in-between. Everyone remembered Pippa shutting down after Tom's death and Michael's death for example, they remember her really good times as she cracked a tough kid's shell or gave sage advice, but the times when she was just a human getting on with life and got frustrated with her family as any mother would mainly sit in the background of our memories. That said, she was a bit of a wonder mum despite her flaws, baking for the diner, running the caravan park, the house, the kiosk etc... Although those kids had to work hard as well with their chores, kiosk shifts and being sent to the store every five minutes for something Pippa needed.
  19. It's a stone house at the bottom, which is probably the only reason the rest was rebuilt as that survived the fire.
  20. Indeed, I won't use his exact words but when I was talking to a crew member in 2004 he did mention that it was a bit of a logistical nightmare filming there at times. Production has changed a lot since then though, and they've got a lot more room there now for all the production vehicles, so things should be a bit easier. And as I added above, that was in the days it was just down the road. But yeah, I suppose cameras are smaller these days as are location crews - I can imagine the trees on the old drive being a nightmare and them having to lug a lot of equipment about.
  21. I'm not quite sure what they're going to do with that. As you'll recall, that corner of the verandah was filled in on the old house (it was a laundry) and the porch sat on the outside of that. One of the very few changes they made to the exterior when they rebuilt it was to remove the old laundry so that the verandah continues around that corner. There are 2 sets of french doors on that side of the house now, opening onto the verandah, but it wouldn't match the interior anymore. So it'll be interesting to see if they do use that side and if they do anything to hide the changes. It looks to me like they've extended the porch on the interior set so that it goes past the interior set's laundry window. That porch was quite iconic in a way so I'm sad to see it changed but it's worth it to get the exterior back plus the interior all of a sudden seems flooded with the artificial daylight, which I love. I hope the join the trellis up with the back wall on the porch though as there was big gap in between. But if that whole built out part of the house has gone they'd need to do a bit of work to cover that up or just not show that side as they've been doing. I do view it as a good sign though that they've made the effort to get the location back, especially given that it's quite a distance from Palm Beach and the studios. Just had a look at it's just over an hour in light traffic from Redfern but throw in City traffic and it'd be longer, whereas it was 40 minutes from Epping so it's quite a change to production.
  22. I was actually just thinking the other day how we never see someone taking linen out to the vans like they used to. It always used to be an excuse for a character to exit so someone could have a chat or something but it just made it all seem more real.
  23. It's the real life rebuilt house, not a replica created by the props department. Wow I wasn't aware of that. Thanks for correcting me! Nevertheless it looks fantastic! I think the only reason it looks a bit different at first glance (other than the roof no longer being red) is probably because the driveway now appears outside in front of the house from the right whereas it used to be from the left. If the drive was still going off to the left it could have possibly looked something like this (more instantly recognisable): The fretwork is slightly different at the top of the enclosed balcony also and the house looks wider as there isn't a tree blocking the right side of the verandah. Actually.... the Caravan Park is already back there. It's been on-screen since at least October, I think the first scenes may have been when Gray turned up but don't quote me on it. However it's not in the same place as it was years ago (to the rear of the house). It's further down the hill before the driveway passes the front of the house and they're not visible to each other. Now that the house is back on-screen they may make the link between them again, we'll wait and see I hope that's an 'in the know' wink. I hadn't realised the latest Caravan Park was in a new site on the old location. I hope they make it look more like the original as they did with the 2008 version as the current one (last seen in the UK in January) is just a bunch of vans sitting on a field.
  24. It's great that they're using the location again. It's a shame the house hasn't been recreated exactly as it was, but this is a really positive move for the show.
  25. You're correct but it's no different to the way Martha use to refer to Morag as 'Aunty Morag' as well even though it was her great aunt instead but Morag said being referred to 'aunty' was better than being referred to as 'great aunt' as it made her feel older being called 'great aunt'. Maybe using the words 'uncle' or 'aunty' makes the character feel younger rather than referring to them by their actual relation to another person but that's just a guess on my behalf. It's a respect thing, I think he called him Uncle Donald when Bobby was just fostering him out of respect - then when she married Greg it was never changed. It could be though be due to age, my eldest cousin calls our Grandma 'Auntie' because by Grandma was in her late 40s when he was born and didn't feel old enough to be a Grandma.
