Cash is offered a clean slate. Remi’s talents get noticed. Lacey makes a stand.

Extended Summary

At Salt, Cash wonders about lecturing his new boss on his first day. Eden quips that it’s an interesting way to resign and they discuss the sergeant being Lacey’s dad. Eden wonders if Cash could make a complaint but Cash says most of what David said was true. He gets a call summoning him back to the station. There, David is showing Tane out, with Tane still insisting David doesn’t get it. David calls Cash through and notes the extent of the story seems to be that Tane got in the car and Cash didn’t stop him, asking what he considers extenuating circumstances.

Kirby is singing in the studio with Remi monitoring things from the booth. Another woman suddenly enters the booth. Kirby sees her and walks out, leaving Remi momentarily confused until the woman, Avalon, introduces herself. Kirby enters and knows who Avalon Bracken is, saying Forrest kept playing her record and saying she was the next big thing. Avalon says she had a self-funded first album and is recording the second one next door. She suggests backing vocals and Kirby indicates she should leave, before telling Remi that Avalon’s her competition. Remi suggests she get off home and they admit Avalon had a point about the backing vocals. Remi suggests asking Eden.

At the surf club, Tane leaves a message for Cash apologising for landing him in it. Justin and Theo appear; Theo has his letter from the doctor, together with details of his physio. Justin reminds him that there’s still a lot of restrictions. Tane admits he hasn’t had a chance to put a plan together but suggests they go over the restrictions now.

Leah is driving past and sees Lacey at the bus stop with her bag. She offers her a lift and Lacey loses her temper and tells her to go. Instead, Leah parks nearby. Lacey says she has to get away and the town’s really small. Leah decides to sit with her until the bus comes. Meanwhile, Cash checks David doesn’t want anything else and says his daughter was an asset, before saying he’ll see him tomorrow.

Lacey says she thought Leah would be glad to see the back of her. Leah admits she wasn’t her biggest fan at first. Lacey says she thought she belonged there but she doesn’t. Leah asks if she’s had a fight with Theo. Lacey says her dad’s moved there, meaning she can’t be there. At Salt, Cash and Tane tell Eden about how David doesn’t seem to listen to anyone. David comes in at that moment and orders a beer and pizza after a brief chat with Eden. He and Cash exchange awkward nods. Eden offers to spit in his food and Cash says it’s illegal.

Leah and Lacey have returned to the Morgan house. Leah asks if things can be fixed with her dad, suggesting he still loves her. Lacey says his love means nothing and he proved that when her mum died, being more interested in forgiving the driver responsible than mourning her. She says she left home six months ago and her dad’s the new sergeant at Yabbie Creek. Theo only knows her mum died. Leah suggests she needs to be up front with Theo.

Remi is playing guitar in the empty studio. Avalon comes in again and wonders what happened to “the diva”. She says she and her people are having a drink next door and invites him to join them. Remi declines, saying he has a lot to do tomorrow. Meanwhile, Kirby greets Eden and Cash on their return and tells Eden about the plan to add backing vocals and asks if she’ll do it. Before she can answer, Kirby says yes for her and says they need to be in the studio first thing tomorrow.

Lacey has decided to stick around. Leah wonders if she’s going to tell Theo any of this. Justin and Theo turn up and Leah says she and Lacey just ran into each other. Justin asks what they were talking about. After a long pause, Leah says they were talking about what to have for dinner. Lacey gets a text from David inviting her for breakfast at 8am tomorrow at Salt, but doesn’t tell anyone.

Next morning, Theo and Lacey are walking near the surf club. Lacey isn’t saying much and Theo tells her it means a lot that she’s making an effort with Leah. They meet up with Tane, who invites Lacey to come and watch but she declines. Up in Salt, Remi is buying coffee and chats to Justin about the studio work. David is sat at a nearby table. Lacey comes in and Justin briefly chats to her about last night before leaving. Lacey tells David she’s not staying. David suggests something brought them together but Lacey calls it an unfortunate coincidence and says they’re not going to be friends or have coffee: She wants nothing to do with him.

Kirby is telling Eden they can go through everything on the way and she knows Eden picks things up easily. Remi arrives with the coffees and says it’s just like old times. Eden says it’s not: She’s grateful to be asked but can’t step up to the microphone when it’s not with the band. Kirby accepts it and says she’ll meet Remi outside. Remi tells Eden to think about everything they had with Lyrik instead of how it ended.

At the police station, Cash suggests to David that they got off on the wrong foot. David agrees a clean slate would be best and notes he abused his position to get Cash to bring Lacey in. He explains he hasn’t seen her for six months and is grateful Cash looked after her. There’ll be no formal action for involving a citizen, but since Cash broke protocol, he’ll be on traffic duty until further notice and expected to go by the book.

Kirby and Remi arrive at the studio. Kirby can’t think of anyone else to ask but Theo, but thinks they need a female vocalist. Remi says he’ll make some calls. They find Avalon in their control room, claiming to be looking for takeaway menus. Remi says she was just looking through the notes from yesterday. Avalon leaves; Kirby looks annoyed.
