Remi comes into money. Cash digs for dirt on Tim. Will Mali pursue his crush?
Extended Summary
Remi pulls up in his bike outside the Lyrik house, where Bree is waiting for him. She is wearing jogging gear and explains her counsellor recommended a mental health walk. She asks how things went with his parents. Remi asks if she got his text and Bree points out he just said things were complicated. Remi says they’re not bad but they are complicated.
At the police station, Cash asks if he can go but Rose still isn’t satisfied about him using the police database, saying he’d be in a lot more trouble if Sarge had caught him. Cash accepts that and says it won’t happen again, but insists that he pulled Tim over for a valid traffic violation. Rose asks about what he said about protecting Eden and Cash insists he has a gut feeling about Tim. Rose tells him to go home.
At the Diner, Justin asks Leah and Marilyn if they’ve had much to do with Abigail Fowler. Marilyn says she’s been in with Levi a few times and Justin says Theo has gone for a drive with her, which he thinks is code for a date. Leah doesn’t think Theo would want them discussing it and says it might be good for him. Marilyn takes a drink over to Roo, who she notes is now the official surf club secretary. Alf comes in, in a bad mood, and tells Roo that they’ve increased the rent on the bait shop. He worries that it might be legal and they’re trying to force him out.
At the surf club, Kirby returns from a lesson and starts quizzing Mali about Abby, asking if it’s a crush or something more serious. Mali isn’t keen to discuss it and, when Kirby asks if Abigail knows, sarcastically says that he announced it at a house meeting and put it on the roster. Kirby encourages him to tell her.
Remi tries to get Bree to come out for a drink but Bree insists he tell her what’s going on and asks if his parents are okay. Remi says they are and explains his grandmother set up a trust fund for him either before he was born or before she died and they wanted to transfer the money to him. Bree says a trust fund is a good thing and jokes that it could mean a holiday to Greece. She asks how much it is, suggesting ten or twenty thousand. Remi indicates it’s higher before admitting it’s five million.
In the office at the surf club, Roo is looking over the letter, which is increasing the rent by almost double and claims it’s in line with inflation. Alf is looking through his e-mails, trying to find the most recent lease agreement. Roo notes this is the most fired up he’s seemed about something since she’s been back. Alf finds what he’s looking for.
Bree is trying to get her head round the fact Remi’s a millionaire. Remi says he hasn’t done anything to deserve it other than be born. Bree suggests he doesn’t have to touch it but Remi says then it would just accumulate interest. Cash turns up and, in an interrogative tone, asks Remi about Tim and Eden and if he knows Tim is Abigail’s counsellor before storming out again. Remi follows him, asking him how he knows. Cash says he caught them in the back garden all over each other and insists he wasn’t spying. Remi is unconvinced and says what Eden does is none of Cash’s business anymore.
Kirby suggests to Mali that nothing might come of Theo and Abigail’s drive. Mali hopes it doesn’t, convinced that Abigail’s not ready for anything. Kirby thinks she isn’t as fragile as people think. Rose turns up, asking if Kirby’s free for a drink, and says that after struggling to be Cash’s boss, he tested the bounds of their friendship. Kirby admits she told Cash Eden’s seeing someone else and they note it was always going to be difficult when one of them moved on. Mali rather defensively says you can’t just switch off your feelings and leaves Kirby to close up.
At the Newman house, Remi makes an attempt to state a case to Cash. Cash says they’re both worried about Tim. Remi agrees but also says Eden’s happy. He asks Cash what he actually wants, saying Cash wanted to marry Eden then he didn’t, and then he was going to move away to make things easier but didn’t. He says if Cash wants Eden back he should tell her, and if he doesn’t he should leave her alone.
Roo listens as Alf has an irate phone call, asking if the landlord has any common decency. Kirby checks with Roo that everything’s okay. Alf puts the phone down and tells Roo it’s not up for discussion. He is somewhat deflated, wondering if he’s got it in him to fight it. Roo says she’s got enough for both of them. Back at the Lyrik house, Bree quizzes Remi about Tim. He confirms he thinks Tim dating his client’s sister is wrong. Bree asks about the five million dollar elephant in the room. Remi asks her to drop it and let him get his head around it. Bree calls him a poor little rich kid and says she knows a hundred people who’d kill to be in his position. Remi suggests her therapy hasn’t taught her empathy. Bree tells him to get over himself and walks out.
Cash is working at his laptop when Rose turns up with some coffees, wanting to clear the air. However, her mood changes when she sees he has Facecloud up on his screen and realises he’s been looking up Tim. Cash says there’s no law about looking someone up on social media. Rose tries to tell him it’s not healthy but ends up giving up and leaving him to it. Cash clicks on Tim’s account.
In the back garden of the Lyrik house, Remi apologises to Bree but says everything he had growing up came from his mum’s side of the family and they never let his dad forget it, and he doesn’t want to be part of that world looking down on people. Bree suggests he could do something worthwhile with the money.
Mali goes to the fridge at home and smiles on seeing a note from Abigail that she used all the milk. He turns round and sees Kirby there. She says she didn’t knock because she wanted to surprise him and hands him an envelope with the proofs from the shoot. Mali is impressed with them and thanks Kirby for pushing him to do it.
Outside the Lyrik house, some caterers are unloading supplies while Bree phones Justin to invite him and Leah over. Remi gives instructions to the caterers and says Eden has asked if she can bring Tim. They see Cash emerging from his house with a folder. Remi goes over and confirms to Cash that Eden and Tim will be there. Cash starts to protest but Remi reiterates for him to leave Eden alone.
Inside the house, the caterers set up and Remi grabs some champagne for himself and a now glammed up Bree. Justin arrives and Kirby emerges from her room, also dressed up. Justin wonders if it’s a wedding celebration and Remi assures him it isn’t and they’ll find out when the others get there. After Justin and Kirby have headed outside, Remi tells Bree he knows what he wants to do with the money. Meanwhile, Cash emerges from his house, pulls up a chair and sits watching the party preparations.
