Harper’s back in the dating ring. Does Dana have a new crush? Theo’s desperate for more.
Extended Summary
Harper and Dana arrive at the surf club. Harper checks that Dana hasn’t set her up on another blind date and Dana says she’s learned from the failure with Xander. Harper says it wasn’t a failure, there was just no spark. They comment on both being single and Dana says she has a no losers policy which rules out 90% of men, a figure she sticks to when it becomes clear Tane has overheard. Harper sends Dana on ahead and invites Tane to join them.
Up in Salt, Leah and Justin pay for their meal to Xander. Dana appears shortly before Harper and Tane, and Xander admits Felicity now wants him to come up with another event. Harper and Tane order their drinks and head to a table. Dana asks for a cocktail that’s not too sweet, has no pineapple and comes with an umbrella, before offering her services coming up with the event. Xander says he has an idea for a secret event where no-one knows the theme until they get there…but doesn’t know what it would be.
Theo and Valerie are in bed together, with Theo commenting that he can’t even remember what he was stressed about. Valerie assures him she has no regrets. Theo wonders if she takes the pills to cope with pressure. Valerie isn’t keen on answering more personal questions, but eventually says that she used to party on weekends and since Josh died she takes the pills when she can’t cope: Therapy has taught her coping strategies but it’s not a miracle cure. They lie back down and, when they hear Justin and Leah coming home, keep quiet, mainly by kissing. Justin notes the pair have gone to bed and Leah says she’ll do the same. The atmosphere is rather awkward and stilted as Justin says he will as well and, after getting a glass of water, Leah heads off to the spare room, leaving Justin to go to their room alone.
On the Diner veranda, Bree has filled Irene in on what happened with her father. She gets a text from Remi and admits she hadn’t visited her parents in over a year because she wasn’t sure how to explain Jacob dying and her being Remi to them, as a result of which she’s missed out on time with her father. A server appears with Bree’s takeaway. At the Lyrik house, Kirby finds Remi about to head out to search for Bree. She protests that Bree could be anywhere. Remi says he’ll try her place first. Kirby doubts that he could handle the stairs and adds Bree wouldn’t be happy if he could. Remi reluctantly agrees to wait.
Harper, Dana and Tane catch up, with Harper bemused that she missed Tane nearly moving back to New Zealand. Xander comes over and Dana gets Harper to tell him about the paint and sip night she went to in the city, where you have drinks and an art teacher. Harper tells him not to have another romance night, since it just provides another reminder if you’re single. Dana tells her not to complain if she’s not going to do anything about it. Meanwhile, Justin is lying awake in bed. Leah comes into the room, shutting the door behind her. Justin pulls the sheets aside and she gets into bed next to him, with them cuddling up.
Next morning, Harper is doing a boxing session with Tane on the beach while Dana lies nearby nursing a hangover. Xander comes over and, despite her complaints a few moments earlier, Dana compliments him on the cocktails. Harper’s phone keeps giving off alerts and Dana suggests her boss could be trying to contact her. Harper says it isn’t that: She signed up to Smouldr last night. Dana asks to see her profile picture while Xander congratulates herself on putting herself out there and Tane agrees it takes guts.
At the Morgan house, Leah is surprised to find Theo already up on his day off. Justin asks her how the night went and Leah says it was the best night’s sleep she’s had in ages so she’ll move her stuff back into their room. Valerie appears and suggests she and Theo get a coffee. While they’re alone, Justin checks Valerie is okay living there and thanks her for helping him get things back on track with Leah. When Theo reappears, Justin remarks it’s good the pair of them are getting on.
Theo and Valerie walk to the coffee cart. Theo tells her he’s keen to repeat both last night’s experiences. Valerie cautions him that taking the pills isn’t a game and she doesn’t have the money to buy more. Theo says he’ll sort that and is just interested in having fun until going back to TAFE work. He says someone owes him money so he’ll sort that while she gets coffees.
At the Lyrik house, Remi is about to send a text saying “Just let me know you’re okay” when Bree arrives. She tries to explain away her not contacting him by saying she thought he was in hospital but Remi reminds her she said she didn’t want him there. She admits that she wasn’t sure if Jacob’s parents would be there or how they’d react to her having another man in her life. She also says her dad would have loved him. Remi comforts her.
Theo approaches Xander near the surf club and asks him about the fee for the gig at Salt. Xander says he transferred the money to Kirby, so Theo goes to call her. Harper, Dana and Tane appear with Harper wondering about all the responses she’s got. Dana calls her fresh meat. She and Tane rule out some of the matches she’s got. Dana goes to talk to Xander about the paint and sip, which he says is better than a silent disco. Harper gets another match who seems sweet but she doesn’t know how to respond. Tane tells her to be herself.
Leah brings Justin a drink and a kiss. Theo and Valerie return and Justin asks what happened to Theo’s TAFE assignment. Theo tells him about failing it. Justin says Theo won’t finish his apprenticeship like that but Leah reminds him there’s been a lot going on lately. Theo gets an alert and takes Valerie aside, saying Kirby’s transferred him the money. Valerie says she’ll call her guy.
Bree tells Remi she’s worried her father’s death is karma for killing Jacob. Remi says it was just a horrible accident, like what happened to him. Bree says she’s missed him. At Salt, Xander checks Kirby got the money and Kirby confirms she sent it to Theo and he hung up straight after. Xander chats to Dana, who asks about Theo and Kirby’s history and notes that with her track record she won’t date until she’s forty. Xander says that’s a shame because she’s a catch. Dana looks affected by the remark.
Downstairs in the surf club, Harper tells Tane that she did as he suggested and was herself with the guy and he’s asked her out on a date: She didn’t expect it to happen so fast but she’s said yes. Tane convinces her to relax and enjoy it. At the Diner, a stunned-looking Dana tells Irene she thinks she has a crush on someone. Irene asks if it’s someone she knows and Dana looks awkward.
