Extended Summary

Tane follows Mackenzie from the surf club, as she makes it clear she wants to avoid the conversation. Tane tries to question her further, wondering if Felicity’s done something at work to upset her. Mackenzie simply advises him to talk to her. Back at the Parata house, Felicity is sat in her room, fingering her wedding ring. She hears someone coming home but it’s Cash, who has heard from Rose about the Vita Nova men being arrested. Felicity asks if he’s seen Tane, and Cash says he’ll be out of there as soon as Tane gets back. Felicity is annoyed at the comment before saying she doesn’t want to discuss baby making with her brother.

Irene continues to tell Harper she needs to leave. Harper thinks they should wait until after the hearing and Irene says she may not have a home then. Harper still wants to support her and Irene says it wouldn’t help. Dana chimes in, agreeing, which causes Harper to realise that Dana guilted Irene to get her own way. Up in the flat, Xander has made up popcorn and is settling down for the evening…when he gets a phone call from Mackenzie. He wearily says he’ll be there soon .

Felicity is in the bathroom as Cash calls out goodbye…moments before Tane comes home. Felicity quickly takes a pill and stuffs the box back into her bag, saying she wasn’t expecting Tane home so soon. Tane wonders why she didn’t call Mackenzie. Felicity says she was doing invoices and tries to go to the bedroom but Tane takes the bag from her, putting it on the table, and tells her Mackenzie indicated she wasn’t being straight with him. Meanwhile, Xander arrives at Salt. Mackenzie says she needs him to cover for Felicity and abruptly shuts down his attempts to question where she is, before apologising and thanking him for coming in,

Tane notes Felicity has been all over the place recently but she denies something is going on. Tane threatens to go and see Mackenzie. Felicity retrieves her bag from the table and Tane wonders what’s in it, having realised she won’t leave it. Felicity takes out deoderant, wallet and keys and sarcastically asks if he wants her to go on. Tane looks at her silently and her demeanour changes, asking him not to do this. She tips up the bag and the pills are the last thing to fall out. Tane asks if she’s still taking them and she nods. Tane heads out the back. Felicity follows and tries to explain, saying she knew he was disappointed at the idea of not having children. Tane points out that while he was making plans for a baby, she was making sure there wasn’t one. He refuses to discuss it further, saying he’s done.

Back at the Diner, Harper berates Dana for taking the decision to support Irene away from her. Irene comes over and says she’s made her choice as well and that’s that she doesn’t want them there. She calmly tells them to get out. At Salt, Xander is telling Mackenzie about how a lot of people stuck around after Alf’s presentation. Mackenzie is distractedly looking at the door so Xander adds that John started singing while naked. Cash comes in for a beer and is surprised when Xander mentions Felicity was meant to be working. Mackenzie tries to send Xander to the store room but he doesn’t take the hint, prompting Cash to set off for home.

Tane is packing a bag while Felicity tries desperately to stop him from leaving, saying she wasn’t going to keep taking the pill and just needed more time. She tries putting his things back and grabbing hold of the bag but Tane firmly pulls it away from her and heads out, Felicity following. Cash arrives and wonders what’s going on, and is confused when Tane asks if he knew. When Cash tries to stop him walking away, Tane punches him, leaving him even more confused.

Mackenzie serves Harper and Dana on the balcony at Salt. Dana asks Harper if they’re okay. Harper guesses so. Dana says she thought she was helping and wonders if Irene meant it about not needing them. Harper says Irene’s tough but everyone needs someone in their corner. At that moment, Irene walks through a park area and sits down at a picnic table in tears.

Xander comes back into the surf club and sees Tane ordering everyone out of the gym and closing it, ignoring his attempts to talk. Mackenzie comes down and Xander tells her what he saw. Mackenzie joins Tane in the gym. He wonders when she found out and she says not long after she got back from Queensland. Tane says she should have told him. He notes Felicity’s kept a lot from him but nothng like this.

Outside the Parata house, Cash has been filled in and is bewildered. Felicity says she didn’t want to disappoint Tane and was going to lose him: He kept accepting her decision about kids and then asking again, and she thinks sooner or later he’d have wanted them with someone else. She asks Cash to talk to him but Cash doesn’t feel he can defend her and walks away.

Next morning, Irene arrives at the court and is quickly met by Harper and Dana. Dana says they’ve been talking and decided Irene’s not the boss of them. Harper adds that they want to support Irene even if she doesn’t need them. Irene rhetorically asks which idiot said they didn’t need them and hugs them. Harper tries to convince her it’s going to be okay.

Tane is sat in the gym and gets a text from Felicity saying “please call me. I love you.” Cash arrives and promises he had no idea what was going on. Tane apologises for hitting him. Cash thinks Tane and Felicity can work through this because they love each other. Tane says they worked through Felicity pushing him away after the accident and through the assault, but this isn’t something that happened to them, it’s something Felicity did. He says he’s never coming home.
