Episode 8146

Extended Summary

Felicity storms up to Mackenzie outside the surf club and, ignoring Eden’s greeting, lays into her for Tane not coming home last night. Mackenzie protests that she didn’t tell Tane anything but Felicity calls her a backstabber. Cash also comes over as Felicity and Mackenzie end up walking off in opposite directions. Cash brushes aside Eden’s questions about what just happened and his cut lip, going after Felicity. Eden follows. Meanwhile, Mackenzie finds Tane at the gym and realises he slept there last night. She insists he come to Salt for some breakfast.

Irene is pacing in front of Harper and Dana. Greta finally joins them and Irene does the introductions. Greta is surprised Harper’s lawyer hasn’t recommended she stay away. Harper says Irene acted out of kindness and deserves their support. Greta says her kindness isn’t on trial. Dana offers to tell the court what happened which Greta calls brave but naïve. John also arrives, wondering why he had to find out about the sentencing from Alf. Greta admits the magistrate is tough and a stickler for the rules, which is why she wanted to delay.

Cash follows Felicity home, wondering how Mackenzie fits in, and says Felicity is the reason Tane’s hurting, not Mackenzie. Eden also arrives, still wanting to know what’s going on. Felicity realises Cash has spoken to Tane and asks what he said but Cash refuses to get in the middle. Felicity shuts herself away in her room, leaving Cash to explain to Eden.

Mackenzie asks Tane what his plan is but he says he doesn’t have one anymore. Mackenzie encourages him to talk to Felicity and try and work things through. Tane says it’s done and doesn’t see why he should do anything, saying he did’t lie or make promises he couldn’t keep. Meanwhile, Eden goes into Felicity’s room despite Felicity asking to be left alone. Felicity says she couldn’t stop Tane leaving. Eden asks what she thought she was doing and isn’t convinced she can fix it. Felicity tells her to get out, saying she doesn’t need more judgement.

John, Harper and Dana are all sat in the front row of the court as the court clerk announces the arrival of the judge. Irene is the only one to respond to his “Good morning.” Greta and the prosecutor, Matthew Filmore, introduce themselves. The magistrate notes Irene has pled guilty and allows Filmore to make a statement. Filmore says Irene ignored the law, as she has done in the past, and submits her criminal record as evidence, calling for the maximum penalty of seven years.

Cash comments to Eden that he hoped to be in court to support Irene. He says Tane’s angry and he doesn’t blame him, reflecting on the number of times he’s had to defend Felicity. Felicity overhears from her bedroom and emerges, telling him he can just stay out of it. She heads out and Eden follows her down the beach, wondering if Tane put pressure on. Felicity agrees, noting he said all the right things but she knew she was breaking his heart so she panicked. She thinks everyone considers her a terrible person. Eden says she just did a terrible thing, which doesn’t land well and results in Felicity walking away and telling her not to follow.

Greta makes her own statement, saying there are extenuating circumstances and arguing the other charges are irrelevant. The magistrate disagrees and prepares to pass sentence. John hisses for Greta to do something. Greta announces Irene wishes to make a statement first, which is news to Irene. The magistrate allows it and also a half hour recess to prepare.

Felicity encounters Tane by the surf club and tries to talk to him but Tane doesn’t think they can work it out. He reminds her she lied to him about their future and says they have nothing to talk about. He asks how long she was going to lie for. Felicity says she hoped she’d get her head round having a baby. Tane says she must have thought he was an idiot and he can’t trust her.

Outside the court, John is on the phone to Cash, explaining that they’re on a break and the prosecutor’s really going for Irene. Nearby, Irene expresses her doubts to Greta about addressing the court, saying she’s no public speaker. Greta thinks it’s their best hope but she can only guide Irene with questions.

Felicity is watching Tane run a class near the beach. Mackenzie joins her, saying she thought Felicity needed a friend. Felicity thinks Mackenzie’s there to interfere in her marriage again. Mackenzie insists she cares about both of them. Felicity admits she doesn’t think Tane loves her anymore. Tane turns and gives her a cold look, prompting her to walk away.

Cash admits to Eden that a suspended cop with a busted lip might not be much help to Irene. Felicity arrives back and notices Cash has packed a bag for Tane. Cash explains he called and asked for some things, and tells Felicity to give him space. Felicity is convinced that she’s lost him. Eden comforts her.

Irene tells the court about letting Dana stay with her, saying Dana was being hunted by a crooked cop and didn’t know who to trust, and Madden was bad news. Filmore interrupts, saying Madden isn’t the subject of the hearing. Irene says she’s fed up of him painting her as the bad guy and Filmore retorts that she is the bad guy. Greta says Irene has the right to make her statement without being interrupted by a bully. Looking at Harper and Dana, Irene says Dana was innocent and she’s not going to apologise for helping her, so they can lock her up for that if they like.

Later, Harper and Dana are walking through a park area, discussing what Irene said and what’s going to happen. Dana blames herself for Irene possibly going to prison while Harper points out she was the one that decided to come there and get Irene and Cash involved. She gets a text from her lawyer, saying associating with Irene is wrecking her chances of getting a lighter sentence, and worries what they’ll do to her if they’re going after Irene like this.

Irene, John and Greta are at the Diner. Greta explains the judge called a recess until tomorrow to think over the statements before pronouncing sentence. She admits things didn’t go as well as she hoped and Irene should prepare for the worst. After she’s gone, Irene tells John she has a lot of regrets but helping Dana isn’t one of them, and admits she’s scared to death.
