Zara imposes on Mali and Rose. Felicity keeps Tane’s baby dreams at bay. Will Marilyn lie for Roo?
Extended Summary
Mali is running a class on the beach, with Zara sat watching him, which seems to make him uncomfortable. Rose watches from near the surf club. Xander comes over and chats to her about Bree moving back in, jokingly wondering if he’ll come home to find Alf living there. He follows Rose’s gaze and comments on Zara still being around. As he’s heading inside, he passes Tane who greets him cheerily. Up in Salt, Xander comments to Felicity on how happy Tane seemed but Felicity rather tersily describes it as her private business. Xander says he was just making conversation and gets back to work.
Roo is alone at home, telling someone on the phone that the caravan park’s still shut. Marilyn turns up, saying John asked her to bring Alf’s mail. When she hangs around, Roo reminds her she was asked to respect her space. Marilyn tells her about Leah and Justin being kidnapped and Justin being touch and go after surgery, and about Irene and Harper being arrested. Roo is shocked but declines Marilyn’s offer to take her to see them, saying she’ll give them a call.
Mali arrives back at the surf club to find Rose waiting for him. They jovially comment on the fact they haven’t seen much of each other lately. Rose says she’s been bust at work and also comments on Zara. Mali suggests they have dinner tonight to talk things over.
Marilyn serves Dana at the coffee cart and asks about Irene and Harper. Dana says she’s going to get some groceries for Roo. As she leaves, she runs into Rose who also asks about Irene and Harper. Dana apologises for what she said yesterday. Rose understands, noting arresting Irene was the low point of her career.
That evening, on the balcony at Salt, Rose has downloaded to a sympathetic Mali about what happened. Zara appears and says she thought she’d find them there, suggesting she get a table for three inside. Mali says they were hoping it would just be the two of them. Zara says she wants to buy them dinner to make up for things and goes to get them a table. Rose is annoyed that Mali is willing to go along with it.
Dana is unpacking Roo’s groceries, saying she’s got everything needed for a stir fry…then realises she’s forgotten the rice. Roo says it doesn’t matter and explains she’s heard about Harper. Dana notes everyone says it’s not her fault but she can’t help feeling guilty. Roo convinces her to stay and talk, saying she’ll make a cup of tea.
Felicity is taking Rose, Mali and Zara’s order but Zara is procrastinating, saying she’s been spoiled by all the meals Mali’s cooked for her and reminiscing at how great he was at the barbie back home. Felicity suggests a steak and Zara agrees. Felicity joins Xander at the bar and finds she has a text from Tane saying a client has cancelled and wondering if she’ll be home for dinner. Xander convinces her he can cover if she goes. He exchanges sympathetic looks with Rose.
Felicity arrives home to find Tane setting up a candlelit dinner and suspects it was him that cancelled, not the client. Later, Tane says he’s spoken to the solicitor in New Zealand about finalising the sale and wonders what they should do with the land first, suggesting setting up a caravan for them and the kids. He queries Felicity pouring a glass of wine. Felicity protests that she’s not pregnant yet but Tane argues she might be. Felicity says it might be good if it takes time, so they can mentally prepare themselves. Tane doesn’t consider it an issue.
Mali and Rose are walking back through a park area. Rose comments on Zara gatecrashing their date and then trying to prove how perfect for each other she and Mali are. Mali insists he’d get rid of Zara if he could. Rose says he’s still going to go back to her so Mali suggests he doesn’t. Rose smiles and they walk on.
Next morning, Zara approaches Xander outside the surf club, asking where Mali is. Xander says he and Rose were gone when he got up. Zara asks how things were between them but Xander refuses to let her interrogate him again. Zara says Mali will have to turn up to work eventually. Xander says what she did last night wasn’t cool. Zara asks if they’re done and walks away.
Mali and Rose are at the coffee cart. Mali gets a text from Zara asking where he is and wonders if he should have told her he wasn’t coming home. Rose is annoyed that he’s going to reply and tells him to go. After he has, Marilyn comes over and Rose asks about Irene. Marilyn says she hasn’t come back to work yet and Leah is spending all her time with Justin, but is fine covering. Meanwhile, Dana has checked in on Roo and thanks her for the talk last night. Roo gets a text from Alf saying he’s coming home, which she doesn’t consider good news.
Felicity arrives back at Salt and heads for the store room and her bag of pills. After some hesitation, she takes one. Downstairs, Rose confronts Zara, wanting her to back off from Mali. Zara says “you’re all” like that. Rose insists not all police officers are like the ones that hassled Mali’s brother but Zara calls them bullies in fancy dress. Rose storms out, passing a confused Mali.
Marilyn turns up at the caravan park house in answer to a summons from Roo. Roo tells her about Alf returning and doesn’t want him to know why Marilyn isn’t living there. She tells Marilyn to tell him that it was her idea to move into Leah’s. Meanwhile, Mali follows Rose through the bush. Rose says she doesn’t have any obligation to Zara and is done: Mali will have to choose between them.
