Episode 8092

Extended Summary

Tane finds Felicity on the beach and asks if she wants to talk. Felicity thinks the speech she made was stupid and pointless but Tane tells her it was brave and that, after she’d gone, people took flyers. Felicity is pleased. Back at the Morgan house, Justin asks Theo if there’s any word from Remi. He suggests the band could go on without Kirby, pointing out that Theo replaced Bob. Theo replies that Kirby’s the main songwriter. He’s worried that the break-up played a part despite what Kirby said. Justin thinks it’s more complex than that.

Bree arrives at the Diner and tells Alf and Marilyn that Alf’s test results came back clear and there’s an appointment available with the specialist that afternoon. Alf says it will lead to lots of appointments taking up time and he’ll have to think about it. At Salt, Tane tells Felicity that once he’s got numbers for the classes he’ll get in touch with an expert. Mackenzie turns up and also wants to sign up for the classes. Felicity says there are some other things she needs her approval for.

Remi puts on Lyrik’s record. Kirby says  she knows what he’s doing and Remi replies that he got her out of her room. He says it’s down to her that they have lots of great songs and they can’t do what they’re going to without her. Kirby turns off the record as a delivery man arrives with some flowers and a note from Forrest saying “Don’t take too long. This could be you.” The box with it contains some treats and a mock-up of her first album. Remi protests that she’s throwing away everything they’ve done. Kirby insists that she’s not throwing anything away. Remi asks what she’d call it. He meets up with Justin by the beach. Both of them think Kirby’s going to sign. Justin says they’ve got an album people are talking about but Remi thinks they’ve got nothing compared to what Forrest can offer.

Mackenzie and Felicity are talking on the Salt balcony. Mackenzie approves Felicity’s idea for code words which Felicity stresses wasn’t just down to her. Felicity says they’ll have to let the staff know. As she heads off, Kirby appears and tells Mackenzie that Eden hates her, Theo thinks it’s all because of the break-up and Remi’s freaking out. Mackenzie offers her coffee and Kirby asks for something stronger.

Downstairs, Tane shows Felicity the number of people that have signed up for the self-defence, which is enough for at least one, possibly two classes a week. Alf also gives his approval, but declines to take part himself. Tane and Felicity go for lunch. Marilyn and Bree appear and try to get Alf to come to his appointment, with Bree saying she’ll drive him. Alf tries to make out he has to work but Marilyn presses the point.

Kirby tells Mackenzie she’s even more confused after talking to Remi and part of her wishes there wasn’t an offer on the table so she didn’t have to choose. Mackenzie tries to convince her she won’t lose her friends and also says it won’t affect their friendship, even though she has an investment in the matter. Kirby recalls coming up with the band name while messing about in the pool at one of her parents’ barbecues. Meanwhile, Justin and Remi arrive back at the Morgan house. Justin says they can’t blame Kirby, and Remi says he’ll blame Forrest. Theo asks if Kirby’s made a decision. Remi says no, but there’s a very real possibility she’ll leave.

Theo finds Kirby on the beach and says he’s not there to talk her out of it. He says she should take the deal if it’s what she wants. Kirby asks what about the band. Theo says they’re at the start of something great but it means nothing if she’s not happy. At Salt, Mackenzie and Felicity explain the code word idea to their staff and also to come to them if they’re uncomfortable getting home or about a customer. Remi comes in wanting a whiskey. Mackenzie chats to him about Kirby, saying she feels undervalued. This seems to give Remi an idea.

Bree delivers Alf back to the Diner. He complains to Marilyn that it’s like buying a car, the amount of options he has, and he just wants something simple. Marilyn convinces him to let her help him, saying he’s busy looking after Martha and Roo, and he asks her opinion of one of the options. Meanwhile, at the Lyrik house, Remi brings a sheet and a film projector in the front room, gets a drink out and looks at his laptop.

Kirby goes to see Justin and thanks him for everything he’s done for them as manager and for believing in her. Justin senses there’s a but and Kirby says she has to do what’s right for her. Justin asks if she’s told the others and Kirby says she wanted to give him a heads-up first. She hugs him and leaves. Theo appears from his room and notes she’s really doing it.

Kirby arrives back home where Remi has hung the sheet up along one wall and suggests they have an old-school night of pizza, tequila and a movie. Kirby says she’s sorry and Remi realises what she’s decided. Kirby asks him to tell Eden and says she’s going to the city for a few days to work on some new material. They reflect on what they had and hug.

Theo notes he basically gave Kirby the green light. Justin wonders if he should talk to Remi and Eden and if he should cancel the gigs. Theo suggests waiting for now, before deciding to go and see his mum. Leah arrives back and Theo says Justin will fill her in. Leah realises what’s happened and Justin wonders how they went from releasing an album to this.
