Can Theo get through to Andrew? Kirby lashes out at Rose. Xander comforts Kate.

Extended Summary

Mackenzie and Xander have just finished a surf. They discuss the fact that Mali couldn’t join them. Xander notes Rose is burning the candle at both ends and he had to invite her to come to breakfast with him so she’d get some food. Mackenzie says she can understand why Cash and Rose are rushed off their feet.

Kirby turns up at the coffee cart, saying her alarm didn’t go off and wondering why Marilyn let her sleep. Marilyn is upset, since she just spoke to Irene on the phone about John’s heart problems and says this shouldn’t be happening to anyone. Kirby is annoyed that neither of them have heard from the police.

Mackenzie joins Rose on the balcony at Salt. Rose thanks Mackenzie for helping with Mali. After briefly discussing the bomb explosion, Mackenzie asks if they’ve caught the guy that attacked Felicity. Rose says it’ll be hard since there’s no eyewitnesses and there were lots of people there. Xander comes out with food and they chat about Kate. Rose ignores a call from Kirby since she has no news on the case. She ends up just grabbing her food and leaving.

At the Diner, Kirby leaves Rose a phone message asking if she’s avoiding her. Justin comes in and Marilyn and Kirby greet him. He joins Theo and Andrew, telling Andrew that Leah’s with the DPP talking about court and trying to get him to come home. Andrew is still convinced people will come after him and walks out. Theo goes after him. Kirby talks Justin out of hobbling after them and says she’ll take him home. Theo chases Andrew, who still wants him to let him go. Theo reminds him of all they did to get him back. He says Justin brought down the cult and they know where he lives, so they’re in danger whether Andrew’s there or not and it’s better to stick together.

At Salt, Mackenzie and Xander are chatting when Kate turns up. She tells Xander she’s meeting with Timothy’s mum and is going to put some ideas to her about spending time with him. She thanks Xander for his advice. Mackenzie gives her the fish and chips she ordered and Kate explains the plan is to have a picnic so Timothy can play while they talk.

Kirby arrives back at the Diner. Marilyn is reading the paper with a front page article about the explosion. Kirby reminds her she said no-one could have predicted this. Marilyn says Roo’s in hospital, Alf’s been told she might die and John’s in ICU, and it’s all down to them. Meanwhile, Justin is pleased when Theo arrives home with Andrew, although the latter still isn’t entirely sold on staying. Justin gets him to unpack his bag which contains clothes, cans of food and a first aid kit. Justin convinces him to hand over the knife, saying he can’t carry it around with him. Theo puts it back.

Kirby continues trying to reassure Marilyn. They suddenly notice something in the article: The CEO, who was supposedly on leave, was asked to step down weeks earlier. They deduce he was behind the bomb. Kirby is angry that no-one told them. She tries to call Rose but just gets voicemail again, saying to call her back. At the surf club, Rose gets the message and, moments later, answers a call from Cash, agreeing to check in on someone.

At Salt, Mackenzie tells Xander she has to go and get Mali’s medication. As she leaves, Kate turns up, looking upset. Xander asks what’s wrong and she says everything. Later, she explains that as soon as she mentioned regular access to Timothy’s mother, she went cold and said Kate shouldn’t have anything to do with Timothy at all.

Justin and Theo welcome Rose; Justin was expecting Cash, who is tied up on another investigation. They explain about Andrew’s worries. Unaware Andrew is listening in, Justin thinks the rest of the cult can be charged as accessories. Rose says there’s not enough evidence but to let the police know if they threaten him. Justin asks her to reassure him that nothing bad will happen to them but Rose can’t guarantee that.

Later, Theo says Andrew will never feel safe with the cult brainwashing. Andrew openly joins him and Justin and says he heard what Rose said. Justin shows that he’s been looking up security cameras, saying he’s going to set them up to make Andrew feel safe. Andrew points out one the cult used but says an infrared one would be better. Theo quietly asks Justin if this is really a good idea but Justin is certain.

Marilyn serves Rose a takeaway at the Diner and they discuss how busy she is. Rose gets a call from Mackenzie at the farm house, who says Mali has crashed for the night so there’s no reason to hurry round. Rose asks Marilyn if she wanted to ask her anything. Marilyn mentions the Coastal News, saying Kirby tried to call her.

Rose goes round to see Kirby at the Lyrik house. Kirby is annoyed Rose didn’t get back to her earlier and also says it’s clear from the paper that the CEO did it. Rose says it’s the first she’s heard of it, but it’s speculation, not evidence. Increasingly annoyed, Rose points out that they ignored Cash’s advice and now she’s clearing up the mess.

Xander and Kate have settled down for a drink. Xander apologises for his advice, saying he didn’t think how Timothy’s mum would react. Kate takes his hand and says she doesn’t know where she’d be wihout him. Xander looks uncomfortable. Later, Kate says she’s no way of fighting it. She says she wouldn’t have come this far without Xander, calling him her rock. Xander calls her amazing. They kiss, then Kate pulls back and hurries away.
