Extended Summary

Kahu finds Tane at the surf club and convinces him to come home with him, saying he’s made plans. Alf and Roo come in. Roo wonders what’s going on with Marilyn and suggests she ask John. Alf says John knows nothing which Roo takes as reference that there’s something to know. She announces she and Alf are having dinner later.

At the Morgan house, Cash shows Theo Archie Lawrence’s file. Justin and Andrew arrive home and Justin reminds Andrew that he met Cash before. Andrew nearly leaves the room but Theo gets him to stay by offering him something to eat. Justin and Cash show Andrew the file. Andrew admits Archie’s his dad but says he’s not allowed to talk about him. Justin suggests he and Andrew go for a walk.

Tane isn’t too impressed when they arrive home and he finds the surprise is beers by the pool. Kahu explains he’s going to arrange a barbecue to thank Tane for letting him stay. He asks if Cash and Felicity are going to be there. Tane says Felicity’s working and Cash usually goes straight to Eden’s. Across the road, Eden comments that Remi’s parents wanted him to be a classical guitarist and he’s a disappointment. Remi denies being a disappointment and asks why Eden doesn’t go to her parents. Eden says her parents aren’t loaded. Kahu turns up and Remi says he’s going to find Theo and Kirby. Kahu invites Eden and Cash to the barbecue. Eden says she’ll check with Cash when she sees him but Kahu convinces her to come over now and text Cash to meet them there.

Tane is somewhat bemused when Kahu returns with Eden, since he thought Kahu was inside getting the food ready. Tane goes to get a lighter as Kahu chats to Eden about Cash’s work, saying he wants to get to know him. At the Morgan house, Theo reflects on Andrew spending weeks alone waiting for his dad. Cash says they can search for family now he’s got a surname. Theo recalls how Andrew froze when Justin snapped at him, saying it reminded him of him and his dad.

Andrew is nervous as he and Justin walk through a park area, worried his dad might see him. Justin stops him and tells him about his dad’s death. Andrew says it’s like his mum and asks what happens to him now. Meanwhile, Tane and Eden quietly discuss how weird Kahu’s behaviour is. Cash turns up, having got Eden’s text, and goes inside to change.

Remi has turned up to see Theo, who is eager to get the album sorted although he says Kirby is helping Leah at the Diner. Justin and Andrew come back and Theo says he’s sorry about Andrew’s dad, which Andrew doesn’t really understand. Remi and Theo leave. Justin says he’ll get them a drink and he and Andrew can talk (or not). Andrew simply stands still.

At Salt, Alf tries to avoid Roo’s conversation as she talks about Marilyn ignoring her texts and going out early. Alf finally cracks and tells her about how Marilyn hasn’t sent back the boxes and about the forum. Theo and Remi come in and Remi asks Theo what’s going on with Andrew.

Justin tells Andrew how he lost his dad when he was a little older than him. He says that whatever Andrew feels about his father’s death is okay. Andrew says he’s not sure what he feels and Justin says that’s okay too. Justin assures him he’ll look out for him. Later, Justin asks Andrew about his dad, saying he seemed scared of him and asking if he hurt him. Andrew says no. Justin asks if Andrew every went with his dad to get groceries. Andrew says he went in the car with him sometimes but never got out. He says he knows the rules and was punished if he broke them. Justin asks if he knows of any family apart from his parents. Andrew doesn’t.

Everyone finishes Kahu’s meal and Tane and Eden go to do the cleaning up. Kahu starts talking to Cash about how much money there is in fishing and suggests Cash invest his inheritance in his trawler. Cash isn’t happy that Kahu knows about that and says he’ll have to find someone else. Tane isn’t happy with Kahu, saying he’s embarrassed them both, and Kahu is equally unhappy about Tane’s lack of support. At the surf club, Alf gets off the phone and tells Roo that Gerald used to be a hot-shot accountant in the city and has agreed to look into the company.

Remi has a list of fundraising ideas he’s crossed out. He crosses out the last one, asking his parents. Cash and Eden arrive back. Remi has heard about Cash helping Andrew. Cash goes off to bed. Eden says Remi doesn’t have to ask his parents and Remi wonders if this is reverse psychology. Eden says they’ll have to do things the old-fashioned way: Get jobs and save up. Meanwhile, Tane tracks Kahu down at the surf club. Kahu isn’t happy about Tane slamming him. Tane says Cash is his brother-in-law and it would cause trouble for him and Felicity if something went wrong. Kahu says it won’t.

Next morning, Cash, Eden and Remi are at the coffee cart and Eden wonders if there’s a job going there. Cash says he’ll give them his inheritance, since Kahu’s words have got him thinking about it. Remi is delighted but Eden looks worried. Remi and Eden head home with Remi on cloud nine making plans, but Eden says she can’t take money from Cash.

Cash finishes a phone call at the police station. Justin turns up. Cash takes a print-out from the machine and takes Justin into the interview room. The print-out is a Missing poster: No-one’s seen Andrew since he was four years old, when he was abducted by his father.
