Extended Summary

Mackenzie teases Gabe about staring at his phone: He is waiting for his test results. They run into Mali, who has taken Elandra for a walk by the beach, and Mali does the introductions. Mackenzie is quick to praise Mali’s work at the board shop, adding that he’s a great teacher. After the two groups have moved on, Elandra expresses surprise about Mali working as a surf instructor. Mali says he didn’t think it was for him at first but he loves it. Elandra accepts that.

Irene joins Marilyn at the coffee cart. They look over at the table where Justin, Ava and Theo are obviously having a tense conversation. Ava suggests Justin put a tracking app on her phone. Justin thinks that’s a good idea, even though she was joking. Theo gets a text from Kirby asking to meet at his place. He takes his leave and Justin stops Ava going with him.

Theo joins Kirby in his room. She talks about her run-in with Ava then presents him with the scrap book, explaining Ava’s his stalker. At the Diner, Leah comments to Roo on how different Ava is and not just because she’s older, since Leah saw her in the city not too long ago. Irene returns for a brief reunion with Leah, who goes off to see Justin. Nearby, Rose chats to Xander about Elandra and the fact she didn’t know Mali had moved to the Bay.

Mali shows Elandra round the board shop. She is impressed but notes they have a surf club at Manta Ray Point where he could do that. Xander and Rose arrive and Mali introduces Xander and Elandra to each other. Rose apologises for their first meeting. Elandra announces that she and Rose are having lunch and Mali isn’t invited. Rose is pretty much carried along by events.

Theo and Kirby look over the scrap book and are both shocked. Justin, Leah and Ava arrive back and Ava tells them that Justin’s just spoken to Remi and he’s out of his brace. Justin sends Ava to feed Buddy. Theo tries to talk to Justin but he just apologises for them getting caught up in things with Ava and says he will be back on track soon. A short time later, in Theo’s room, Kirby encourages Theo to still tell people what’s going on. Leah comes in, having realised something’s going on, and Kirby leaves Theo to fill her in while she goes and sees Remi.

Gabe is working on the balcony at Salt, telling Mackenzie he could use the distraction. Justin and Ava turn up and Justin tells Mackenzie about Remi’s recovery. They arrange a gig for the weekend. Ava says she’s looking forward to it. Justin replies that Ava isn’t coming, given her stunt last night. Ava storms off in a huff.

Elandra and Rose are finishing eating. Elandra offers to pay but Mackenzie insists it’s on the house as a thank you for what Mali’s done for Dean. Elandra awkwardly agrees. Rose says Mali has often spoken about Elandra and she didn’t know he hadn’t told people about moving. Elandra asks if Rose is serious about Mali. Rose says it’s too early to be talking about settling down and having kids but she likes him, and also thinks he’s happy there. She asks if she passed the test.

Theo has shown Leah Ava’s scrap book. Leah thinks he should tell Justin but Theo is worried about messing things up between him and Ava. Leah reminds him how worried he was about the fan and says she’ll do it. Later, Justin and Ava arrive back. Ava wonders where Theo is and Leah says he’s with his girlfriend. Ava complains that he’s the only one that ever sticks up for her and goes to her room. Leah shows Justin the scrap book and he realises Ava is the fan girl. He tries to compare it to Tori having posters on her walls but Leah says it’s not normal. Justin dejectedly realises that Theo was the reason Ava came there.

Xander and Mali are waiting down in the surf club for Rose and Elandra to come down. When they appear, Xander notes he doesn’t see any blood and Mali says it could be internal. As it turns out, Rose and Elandra are getting on. Elandra goes outside with Mali and says she understands why he wants to move there. However, convincing their mother could take time.

Justin speaks with Ava and shows her the scrap book. Ava protests at him going through her things but Justin says that’s not what the discussion has been about. Ava dismises i as being a fan girl and says when she met Theo she found him gross and boring and is over it. Justin says that in that case she won’t mind him putting the scrap book in the bin. Ava tells him to do it. Justin does so, then says she was right about him not being around when she was growing up and he wants to make up for it.

At the Diner, Xander tells Rose about how worried Mali was. Rose says Elandra’s fine. She gets a text from Mali saying Elandra’s gone and heads off (Xander instantly knows where she’s going)  At the counter,  Justin has told Leah what Ava said and seems to accept it. After he’s gone, Leah tells Irene she isn’t convinced. Irene says someone like that can come good, like Bella. The two of them and Roo discuss her farewell party.

Mackenzie chats to Gabe, suggesting they go on holiday somewhere exotic for the weekend. Gabe reminds her she has the gig and Mackenzie says she has staff to handle that. They are interupted when Gabe gets a phone call from the oncologist and goes to take it. Later, Mackenzie finds him down by the beach. He tells her the cancer’s back. Mackenzie says he beat it before and can beat it again but Gabe says not this time: It’s spread to his bones and there’s nothing they can do.
