The golf tournament brings out the worst in Justin and John. Felicity thinks of a way to honour Tane. Nikau takes on the best man responsibilities.
Extended Summary
Near the surf club, Justin is trying to convince Nikau to join his golf team. Nikay indicates he’s never played and doesn’t want to. John appears and tells Nikau he needs him for a staff meeting in an hour, before telling Justin not to talk to his staff when they’re on duty. Meanwhile, Tane is cleaning the pool while Felicity ponders sending a video of the wedding to Gemma and Mia or live streaming it. Tane asks if she’s going to keep the wedding dress on all day. Felicity says she’s sending it back to the shop with the others. Tane wants to get ready for the hangi and Felicity assures him the wedding day’s going to be great.
Inside, Eden tells Nikau that Felicity rejected all the dresses, even though she looked amazing in one of them. Felicity comes back in and Eden stops Nikau touching the dresses, saying they’re worth $12,000 and telling Felicity not to drink water wearing them. She explains she had to give her details and pay a $1,000 deposit. She demands Felicity takes the dress off. Felicity asks Eden to unzip her and notices a number of photos on the fridge, including one of the Parata men and one of Ari and Mia.
Justin comes into the Diner and asks Alf and Roo about the car dealer. Roo says there’s nothing definite but they’re interested. Marilyn says she’s got lots of people signed up. Justin asks to see the list, admitting he only has two people on his team. Marilyn says all the people on the list have teams. Justin is hoping one will want to switch but Marilyn refuses. Later, Justin ends a phone call with Leah: She refuses to play on his team so he fears he won’t be able to enter. Marilyn quietly tells him Gerald’s looking for a team and he hurries out. Roo cautions her about getting involved but Marilyn doesn’t think John will find out.
Felicity and Eden are loading the dresses into the van, with Eden still lobbying for the first one. Nikau comes past and assures them he’s not touching the dresses. Felicity talks about how Tane is upset at his family not coming over and they can’t afford to get married in New Zealand. She has an idea to bring New Zealand there.
Nikau arrives at the surf club and is rather frustrated that John’s emergency is needing to rearrange the rosters so he has time to practice, although he accepts it’s for charity. John starts to give a speech about not being taken in by Justin, which gets cut short when Felicity drags Nikau away for a favour. She tells him about Gemma, Mia and Chloe not coming to the wedding and explains she wants him to teach her the wedding vows in Maori. Nikau tells her it’s Te Reo Maori, and will be happy to translate if she gives him a copy of the vows. It’s clear from her reaction that Felicity hasn’t written them.
Eden is loading up the van when Felicity comes running up and tells her to take the dresses back tomorrow. She has brought a bottle of wine and needs Eden to help her write her wedding vows: She’ll provide the content, Eden just needs to make it sound good. Meanwhile, Tane is also now staring at the photos on the fridge. Nikau comes home, having got through the staff meeting. He says he spoke to Gemma and she feels bad about not coming to the wedding. Tane says it’s fine. Nikau says both Gemma and Felicity are worried about him and insists on taking him for a drink.
At the surf club, John asks Alf about Roo’s search for a prize and they ponder the ethics of the surf club sponsoring the competition. Justin comes in and asks John for one of the complicated juices he hates making: Watermelon, celery, apple and ginger. John says Justin will still be on the golf course hours after he’s finished. Nikau and Tane come in; Justin tries to ask Tane to be on his team but gets shut right down. Justin tells John that Marilyn gave him a list of all the best players. Alf groans.
Up in Salt, Tane tells Nikau he’s doing a great job as best man and Nikau says he had Tane’s example from when he was Ari’s best man. Tane recalls Nikau’s parents’ wedding and says he felt like part of it and thought his brothers would be there at his wedding. Nikau says Tane still has him and Felicity and they’re making a new whanau.
At the Lyrik house, Eden tries to get Felicity to concentrate on emotions and key words. Felicity complains she was terrible at English. Eden gets her to stand up and move around before asking her about when she first met Tane. Felicity says it was a nightmare, but eventually says he gets her, he accepts who she is and loves her for it, and he makes her feel safe. She asks Eden if she’s crying before saying she freaked out when Tane first suggested settling down but now he’s all she sees in her future.
Tane and Nikau exit the surf club with Tane telling an anecdote about how Mikaere found out about him selling wedding cake to the guests and made him give the money back. They admit they miss him and Ari. Nikau suggests Tane take Felicity to meet the whanau. Meanwhile, Felicity and Eden have finished the vows. Eden says she understands Felicity wanting to settle down with Tane. Felicity says she used to go for toxic guys. Eden says she knows how that goes and Felicity suspects she’s talking about Cash, protesting they got on well when Gary was there. Eden tells her to accept they’re only going to be friends.
Next morning, Roo ends a phone call and tells Alf, Marilyn and Justin that Geoff has agreed to donate a car. They are all delighted. John comes in and has a go at Marilyn for giving Justin inside information. Marilyn says everyone know who Gerald is. John suggests Marilyn will lose him the tournament and Justin says John will lose it himself. Alf tells them to cut it out.
Felicity gets up and finds Tane has made her coffee. He says he thought she could do with a lie-in after her big night with Eden and talks about his night with Nikau, before revealing he’s planning a surprise. Felicity presses him and he says he thinks they should go to New Zealand for their honeymoon, meet the family and do a tour of the country. Felicity suggests using Gary’s money to do the whole country.
Justin comes into the surf club and tells John that Marilyn’s information didn’t pan out anyway. Roo tries to separate them but John suggests they make it interesting: If his team beats Justin, then Justin has to donate $500 to the charity. Justin ups it to $1000. Roo says this is great and she’ll hold them to it.
Eden is on the phone promising she’s about to bring the dresses back but trails off and says she’ll have to call back: The van doors are open and the dresses missing, with only the rack left behind…
