Extended Summary

John and Nikau are packing up outside the surf club. Justin approaches them and says Leah rang to say she’s in hospital and Heather drugged them, although he doesn’t have any information on Marilyn. Nikau says he can’t believe Heather would do something like this. John says he doesn’t like being right and wonders why Heather was interested in Marilyn. Nikau tells him about Heather being Marilyn’s daughter.

Once inside, John leaves a phone message for Marilyn. Nikau asks him how she is and feels bad about not listening to people about Heather. John reassures him and then sends him home. Dean asks for John’s advice on something. John is bemused but says he could use a distraction. Dean says they need a beer first.

At the hospital, Roo is trying to reassure Alf as Bree joins them. Xander fills her in and explains they don’t know what he was drugged with. Bree asks if he’s allergic to anything. Roo says it’ll be in the notes. She is shooed out of the cubicle as Irene and Leah arrive and gives them an update. Later, Xander checks on Irene and Leah and tells them there’s no news of Marilyn or Heather. Justin arrives and consults with Leah. Irene feels bad for not trusting Marilyn and Leah wonders if she could have stopped this happening if she’d said something. Justin says this is on Heather.

Outside Crestview, Cash and Rose are standing with other police officers. Heather is brought past on a gurney. Marilyn, covered with a blanket, worries about her, wondering if she’ll be cold, and asking what’ll happen to Alf and Heather’s cars. Cash and Rose reassure her and Cash sits her in a police car. Rose asks Cash if he’s okay. Cash says he is and thanks her for asking.

At the hospital, Bree tells Roo that Alf is getting an x-ray. Irene wonders why they weren’t affected and Bree says whatever they were given has gone through their system. Heather is brought in and Roo tries to demand from her where Marilyn is. Marilyn turns up with Cash and Rose. Roo comforts her.

On the balcony at Salt, John gets a text from Justin saying Marilyn and Heather are at the hospital but wants to talk to Dean first. Dean says Ziggy wants him in the delivery room. John asks if he wants to be in the waiting room with a pipe, like John’s father’s generation were. Dean says he wants to be there but is worried he won’t be able to cope with her being in pain and will make things worse. John tells him to talk to Ziggy, since her needs come first. Dean isn’t too impressed with the advice.

Cash and Rose chat to Irene, Leah and Justin. Cash offers to let them wait until tomorrow to give their statements but Irene and Leah want to do it now and Justin says he’ll drive them to the station. Irene goes over to Marilyn as Heather is brought through. Bree says they’re taking her to CT to check for spinal damage. Marilyn tells Irene she thought Heather was dead.

At the Parata house, Nikau has poured himself a drink. He has flashes of sleeping with Heather, her ranting about Marilyn, comforting her when she was talking about Marilyn rejecting her and having a go at Marilyn for hiding who she was. He knocks his empty glass away in anger. At the police station, Leah and Justin are waiting as Irene comes out of the interview room. John arrives to give her a lift home. Nikau arrives as they’re leaving, telling Cash and Rose it’s all his fault: He’s been sleeping with Heather, defending her and lying for her and gave her a false alibi. Cash says Heather’s not well and it’s not his fault.

Heather is handcuffed to her bed with Marilyn watching over her. Roo joins her and says Alf’s expected to make a full recovery. Marilyn apologises, saying she let everyone she loved down and hurt Heather. Roo insists Heather did it all. Marilyn says she was too ashamed to say who Heather was and Heather deserved better. Roo insists Marilyn had no choice but Marilyn says Heather was right: She’s an awful weak person.

Next morning, John meets Nikau on the beach and asks about him being at the station. Nikau asks after Irene and wants to go to the hospital, asking if John’s seen Marilyn. John says he doesn’t want to overstep the mark now they’re not together. Nikau says he’ll let him know if he sees her. John goes over to Dean and says you have to share things with your partner and it doesn’t matter if Ziggy screams or if Dean faints. Dean asks what if something goes wrong. John says that’s a good reason to be there: Ziggy doesn’t want to go through it with strangers, she wants him.

Bree is on the phone, presumably to Jacob, saying it’s the first chance she’s had to call him and they’ll talk when she gets home. Nikau turns up and finds Marilyn with Heather. He declines an offer to sit with her, saying he wants to apologise for believing Heather. Marilyn says there’s a lot of blame to go round and Heather’s going to be fine. Nikau leaves and Marilyn draws the curtain. Behind her, Heather opens her eyes. At the police station, Cash brings Rose a cup of coffee. Rose complains about having two piles of paperwork. Cash offers to do it. Rose says he did great out there and suggests they do the paperwork together and then have breakfast. Cash agrees.

Marilyn brings Heather a glass of water but she doesn’t take it. Marilyn suggests Heather has a second chance. Heather suggests Marilyn is going to turn her back on her again. Marilyn says there are people that can help Heather but she can’t. She says she’s the reason this happened but Heather hurt her friends and she can’t be a part of her life. She takes her hand but Heather pulls away a moment later. As Marilyn walks away, Heather tearfully says she’s abandoning her again and her friends know the truth now.

At the Morgan house, Justin has brought Leah breakfast in bed. Leah wants to go back to the hospital to check on people. Justin assures her that Alf’s on the mend. Leah is worried about Marilyn. Justin is sorry that Marilyn went through what she did but says his job is to look out for Leah.

Marilyn walks down the hospital corridor and hears Alf and Roo talking, with Alf complaining that he wants to go home even though Bree has ordered another ECG. Roo sees Marilyn and invites her in. Alf tells Marilyn that they’d have been on her side if she’d told them the truth. Marilyn says she was too ashamed and it’s okay that everyone’s not been on her side. Roo says they owe her an apology. Marilyn says they don’t and she let them down.
