Extended Summary

Cash and Rose are walking by the beach. Rose tries to make small talk about Felicity’s proposal party but Cash says he just wants to get through the shift. He comments on having a disciplinary hanging over him and Rose protests that’s not her fault. Xander comes along and Rose briefly talks to him about Cash. Justin also comes along and asks Cash and Rose if there’s been any accidents or road closures, explaining Leah went to a brunch and it’s taking longer than he thought. They ask if he’s rung the venue and Justin admits he wasn’t paying that much attention.

Marilyn is tending to Alf but he, Irene, Leah and Roo are still tied up. Roo tries to convince Heather to let them go and Irene says Marilyn’s suffered enough. Heather says Marilyn isn’t the victim and Irene retorts that Heather certainly isn’t. Heather says Marilyn abandoned her and didn’t care what would happen to her. Marilyn says that Heather’s parents promised they’d look after her and Heather says they hated her and hid her away like a dirty little secret. She says actions have consequences.

Dean and Ziggy run into Nikau down on the beach. They tell him John will be in a good mood and he’s just been drinking. Nikau protests that they shouldn’t drink and surf. Ziggy says Dean’s only had one and she only had an orange juice, before revealing that she’s pregnant. Nikau congratulates her. Dean gets a text from Karen offering to buy a pram. Ziggy doesn’t think they need to worry about that yet.

Nikau goes to the Diner and runs into Justin, who asks if he knows where Heather is. He explains Marilyn was looking for her and hasn’t turned up for her shift and that Alf, Irene and others went to a brunch and haven’t come back.

Roo advises Alf to stop talking and Heather says he should listen to her. Roo and Leah again try to talk Heather into letting him go but Heather says it’s not up to her. Marilyn asks if Heather wants to hear that she’s a terrible person and mother. Heather says she wants the others to hear that. Marilyn protests that she left Heather with a nice couple in a nice home and had no choice. Heather calls her a liar, saying Marilyn’s choices destroyed her life. Irene tells Marilyn not to listen to her but Roo plays along, saying Marilyn treated Heather terribly and they won’t look at her the same way again, so Heather’s won. Heather says it’s not enough: Marilyn took everything from her so she’s going to do the same.

Cash gets off the phone at the police station and tells Rose that his hearing’s been brought forward to later in the week but he’s glad to get it over with. Justin comes in and says that Alf, Irene, Leah and Roo got an invitation to a brunch with Marilyn but they haven’t turned up for their shifts and the bait shop’s closed. He also mentions that Marilyn was looking for Heather. After being pushed, he admits Heather is Marilyn’s daughter. Cash calls him through for an interview.

Nikau meets up with Dean and Ziggy, who are discussing their surfing. He wonders if Ziggy should be surfing while she’s pregnant and Ziggy snaps that being pregnant doesn’t mean she should give up everything she loves. Nikau beats a hasty retreat. Dean gets another text from Karen with details of a pram that has cup holders and a mobile charger. Ziggy wonders if maybe they should be thinking of organising things now they know they have less time to prepare.

Justin is in the interview room, unsuccessfully trying to call Leah. Cash comes in and Justin asks if they can do a trace on Heather’s licence plates. Rose calls Cash out for a word and tells him that local police checked out Heather’s old place and found a dead woman there, apparently Heather’s mother or stepmother. They haven’t determined the cause of death but she was hidden in a freezer so it’s not natural causes.

Dean and Ziggy are eating on the balcony at Salt. Dean gets a text from Karen about a change table and says they could just use the floor. Ziggy wants to write a list of what they need to do. Dean takes a chip from her plate and she tells him not to steal food from a pregnant woman if he wants to live.

Rose explains the farm hadn’t been tended to in weeks or months so Heather’s mother was probably dead before Heather came to Summer Bay. She adds that Heather’s father died of natural causes not too long ago. Justin emerges, having been watching through the window, and Cash insists on telling him what’s going on. Justin tries to remember details of the invite and recalls a hill and a view. Rose recalls Heather went to Crestview Ladies College and Justin confirms it was Crestview Function Centre. Cash and Rose head off, insisting Justin stay behind.

Dean and Ziggy exit the surf club. Ziggy wants to get home and do her list. Dean gets another text from Karen and reminds Ziggy that Karen missed out on everything with Jai, just like he did. Ziggy accepts that but says Karen had better not try and get in the delivery room. Nearby, Justin tells Nikau Heather might be involved in a murder but Nikau doesn’t believe it.

Heather forces Marilyn into a seat, despite Irene and Roo’s protests. Marilyn suggests she and Heather go somewhere to talk on their own and asks her to let her friends go. Heather tells everyone to be quiet and hears a noise outside, dragging Marilyn away. Cash and Rose knock on the door and Leah and the others call out that they’re in there and Alf’s in a bad way. The police officers cpme bursting in and Roo explain the situation. Cash goes to look for Marilyn and Heather while Rose calls an ambulance.

Cash searches the building and grounds. Marilyn sees him in the courtyard from an upstairs window and calls out to him. Cash chases them up the stairs, with Heather dragging Marilyn higher and higher. Eventually, they end up on a balcony. Heather holds Marilyn at the edge, with Cash blocking their exit. He asks her to let Marilyn go but Heather says it’s too late for that.

Other police officers and an ambulance have arrived outside. Irene and Leah are free and Rose hands them some blankets. She apologises for not acting sooner, since she knew something was wrong but couldn’t prove it. Xander brings Alf out. Rose says she’ll try and find out what he was drugged with. Roo goes with Alf, and Rose tells Irene and Leah she’ll arrange for an officer to take them to the hospital. Irene asks if there’s any word of Marilyn.

Cash tries to convince Heather to let Marilyn go so he can help her. Heather says that Marilyn abandoned her. Cash says he knows what it’s like to be let down by someone you loved. Heather steps up onto the ledge and drags Marilyn with her, trying to walk round in the direction of an open window. The ledge under Heather’s feet crumbles and she falls, with Cash pulling Marilyn back. They see Heather lying on the ground below.
