Extended Summary

On the beach, Bree jokingly calls Mackenzie’s long board cheating. They exchange introductions and Mackenzie says she’s seen Bree at Salt getting cosy with Remi. Bree says he wishes. Mackenzie mentions Dean’s her brother and Ziggy’s his girlfriend. Bree asks about Ziggy’s dizzy spell and Mackenzie says it was nothing. Back at the farm house, Ziggy is hyperventilating. Dean says he’s trying not to pressure her. Ziggy says she still doesn’t know what to think. Dean says he’ll support her if she doesn’t want the baby. Ziggy says she’s scared. Dean offers to give her space.

Remi complains to Eden that this is why they didn’t want another couple in the band. Eden argues that Theo isn’t like Bob but Remi thinks he and Kirby have gone behind their back. Eden asks if he wants to throw Theo out of the band. Remi is thinking of leaving himself. Meanwhile, Justin and Roo walk near the beach, with Justin telling her there’s been a falling out with the band and Theo and Kirby are hiding out at his place. Marilyn comes along and Justin asks how she is. Marilyn, in a rather jittery manner, asks why she shouldn’t be all right and if Leah’s said anything to him, before saying she doesn’t have time to gossip and walking on.

Marilyn arrives at the Diner and responds to Irene’s friendly greeting by saying she’s still got two minutes before her shift. Bree orders a coffee and notices Remi sitting alone, asking if he’s waiting for a hot date or if she’s already left. She notes his lack of a pick-up line and Remi says he has things to think about. Bree offers to eat with him.

Eden arrives at the surf club and asks John if he’s seen Remi. John starts a speech about the noise the band makes, offering to sound proof their house, and Eden says he might not have to worry about that much longer. She asks Dean, who asks how he’d have seen Remi. Eden says Dean has eyes and stands there all day doing nothing. Roo comes in and John asks her about Marilyn. Roo says things aren’t good. John suggests she give Marilyn some space but Roo thinks she should be supporting her and wants to hang in there. Dean listens in, looking thoughtful. Back at the farm house, a near-hysterical Ziggy asks Mackenzie what she said to Dean, saying now she feels under pressure. Mackenzie comforts her.

Marilyn comes to the kitchen to collect a meal. Irene tries to get her to slow down but Marilyn snappily says she’s doing her job. When Justin comes in, Marilyn accuses him of following her and tells him to make his coffee takeaway. Irene decides to take her break. Nearby, Remi ignores a call from Eden and tells Bree he doesn’t care about band politics and just wants to play guitar. Bree says you shouldn’t give up something you’re passionate about.

Mackenzie admits she encouraged Dean to be honest: He never talks about his feelings otherwise and it was too important. She apologises if Ziggy wasn’t ready for it but doesn’t think avoiding it would help. Ziggy accepts she’s right and that Dean didn’t really pressure her. Mackenzie says it’s okay if the timing’s not right for her and Dean would wait. She goes to the surf club and confirms to Dean that she’s spoken to Ziggy who’s confused. She says it was right that Dean was honest and Ziggy wants him to go home.

Remi arrives home and says he wasn’t going to leave without his guitar. Eden jokes about doing research for a new lead guitarist, then says Theo and Kirby were right about the publicity, since there’s comments on their video from people wanting to see the band. She also claims there’s one complimenting him in German (which seems to be a joke) and says he’s the world’s best guitarist. Remi says her being nice is freaking him out.

At the surf club, John offers Roo some fresh fruit. He gets a call from Jett, who forwards a message he got from Marilyn: “Adoption is one thing but it could never replace a biological child. You’ll always be a disappointment.” Roo wonders if Heather’s comments on adoption affected her. They go to the Diner where Roo offers to talk to Marilyn but John says it’s up to him. He approaches Marilyn and says Jett called, dropping hints about social media and direct messages. Marilyn just makes dismissive comments. John tells Roo it’s like Marilyn has no idea what she’s done.

Remi admits that he overreacted and apologises to Eden for ignoring her calls. Eden says it was worthy of Bob and is glad he’s not leaving, since she’d have to go with him rather than be third wheel and he’s her best mate. They admit they need to take the band more seriously. Remi says to wait to tell Theo and Kirby they’re over it.

Dean arrives home and asks Ziggy about wanting to talk. Ziggy is still unsure: She wants to have a child with him but doesn’t have room in her life for a new baby, pro surfing and the garage, so sacrifices would need to be made. Dean says he can do that, getting someone else to do the board shop and surf lessons. Ziggy says in that case they’ll have the baby.

Remi is busking in front of the surf club to an appreciative crowd again. Bree comes past and Remi jokes they need to stop meeting like this. He offers to take her out to thank her. Bree says he could just say thank you and firmly tells him to take a hint. Remi says he thought they were having a laugh. Bree walks away. Remi isn’t laughing.

At the Diner, John and Roo are awkwardly waiting for an opportunity to talk to Marilyn. They eventually approach her at the counter. Marilyn accuses them of staging an intervention at her workplace. John shows her the message. Marilyn denies sending it but they point out it’s from her account. Marilyn insists it was somebody else.

Remi is playing a more melancholy tune but still getting a good audience. John comes along and again asks him about a permit. Remi says he’s just earning money and improving the vibe while John complains about Remi making noise during the night and tells people not to give him money. An onlooker, Pete, suddenly grabs Remi’s guitar case, which has the money in it, and runs off. Remi hands his guitar to John, saying to guard it with his life, and gives chase. As he rounds a corner, Pete strikes him with the guitar case, knocking him unconscious.
