Cash can’t get the answers he needs. Justin lives his dreams through Theo. Roo gets her mojo back.
Extended Summary
Leah continues to follow Justin near the beach, convinced he isn’t doing this just for Theo, since he bought people they don’t know a van with their savings. Justin argues she was all right with him investing the money in the business. Leah says people don’t sponsor random bands. Justin walks away, saying she doesn’t get it.
Rose continues to watch from outside the room as Bree and Xander restrain Cash. Cash insists he has to go and find out what happened, managing to cut himself by ripping his drip free. Bree says he’s just been through two life-saving surgeries and asks what he’s actually going to do. Cash says he’ll go to the station and they’ll tell him. Bree says he’ll fall flat on his face after five steps and invites him to try. Cash tries to walk but is unsteady on his feet and the staff end up supporting him and helping him back to bed. Bree says it was only three steps. Xander goes to join Rose.
Roo comes into the Diner and asks Irene and Marilyn to keep an eye on the bait shop during her first tutoring session. She is worried, since she meant to book a private table at the library but has left it too late: She can’t go to the student’s house because it’s too chaotic but doesn’t feel comfortable having someone at her house yet. Marilyn offers to set up a private table on the veranda so they’ll have privacy and coffee.
Justin and Leah arrive home, still arguing. Justin continues to insist he’s doing it for Theo but Leah retorts that he was pretty keen for Theo to join the band and thinks he’s too invested. Justin protests that he has other interests than music like cars, surfing and golf. Leah goes to get ready for work, still unconvinced.
Bree asks Cash what he’s expecting, saying Rose has told him everything she knows. Cash says it didn’t help and snidely asks if Bree’s his therapist, before saying he just needs one thing to make sense. Bree joins Rose and Xander and wonders about what Cash said. Rose abruptly leaves. Xander tells Bree that Cash’s girlfriend left him just before he got shot, saying they were too busy wondering if he’d survive to mention it before. He adds that no-one else knows but Cash was about to propose. Meanwhile, Rose heads down to the beach. She stares out to sea and then lets out a scream of frustration.
Bree rejoins Cash and thinks he needs help. Cash says he’ll get mandatory counselling at work but Bree doesn’t think he can wait. She asks if he has a history of mental illness and he says no. Bree asks if there’s anything in the family. Cash laughs and realises she thinks he’s having a breakdown, but becomes less certain when she asks “Are you?”
Leah walks in on Justin having a phone conversation, apparently about decorating the van. When she asks who he was talking to, he says no-one. He denies being over-invested in the band but Leah insists he needs to think about why he’s doing this. After she’s gone, Justin looks over at his guitar. He picks it up and starts strumming.
Leah talks to Irene about it all at the Diner. Irene quips that Justin should sponsor them because she could use a new van. Leah wonders what Marilyn’s doing and Irene explains Roo has a tutoring session. Ali turns up and Irene directs her to them. Ali apologises to Roo, saying her husband had the car and she had to get her daughter organised. Marilyn asks where her daughter is. Ali looks confused and Roo quickly explains Ali is her student, with Ali realising Marilyn thought her daughter needed tutoring and admitting she’s older than most uni students. Marilyn beats a quick retreat as Roo compliments Ali.
Xander finds Rose on the beach and sarcastically thanks her for leaving him without a car. Rose says every time she sees Cash, she’s worried that it’s her fault that he’s like this. Xander says Cash made his own choices and comforts her. Later, back at the flat, Xander assures Rose that Bree is a good doctor. Rose is still worried that Cash is broken. Xander says he has them to help him. Meanwhile, Cash is lying on his side, staring into space. Bree looks in on him and tells Nurse Amy to keep an eye on him and let her know if he changes.
Leah continues to talk about Justin’s behaviour to Irene, saying he’s acting as though it’s her fault she misled him. They and Marilyn look over at Roo, who is advising Ali to link her arguments back to her heading. Ali comments she didn’t think nursing needed so much essays but says Roo’s made the difference.
Leah arrives home to find Justin playing and tells him not to stop. Justin admits Leah has a point, saying when he was Theo’s age, he’d have loved to have been in a band like that, but he had younger siblings to look after and you can’t have dreams in witness protection. He offers to cancel the van, although he’ll likely lose his deposit and have to pay for the artwork. Leah tells him not to. As Justin plays again, Cash lies staring into space while Xander watches Rose on the balcony. Cash starts awake, hearing gunshots, and touches his shoulder where the bullet hit.
Next morning, Xander finds Rose on the beach and says he got her a coffee but it’s probably cold by now. Rose takes a sip and confirms it is. Xander encourages her to go and see Cash at the hospital. Rose thinks her being there just made things worse so she’s going to do things her way. Back at the hospital, Bree hurries into Cash’s room when he tries to get up and get his phone. He frantically asks her to call Felicity for him.
