Extended Summary

Felicity approaches Rose at the caravan park and asks how she’s going. Rose hasn’t been able to find any mention of PK and asks Felicity for more information. Felicity tries to leave but stops and thinks when Rose asks if PK has any associates. At the surf club, John asks Nikau if there’s a problem after earlier and offers him counselling. Nikau replies that he loves volunteering, but he needs to get a job because he can’t keep relying on Tane. John suggests he could do the odd patrol but Nikau thinks he needs to commit to something else. John reluctantly accepts the decision. Bella appears and wonders what’s going on.

At Salt, Felicity complains that she’d like to wipe the smile off PK’s face. Mackenzie agrees but is more interested in getting her money back. Dean asks if Mackenzie has told Felicity her plan. Mackenzie explains she wants to convince PK to hold another poker night there: He’ll expect a cut but she’ll keep the money. Dean urges Felicity to tell her it’s crazy but Felicity asks how she can help. Mackenzie says she can’t, since PK won’t let her be there. Dean says if she’s doing it he’s sticking close by and checks again with Felicity that it will work. Felicity says it’s dangerous but it could. Later, she admits to Tane that she doesn’t like it but it will work if PK thinks he’s in control. Dean appears and says PK’s on his way. Felicity says she’ll make herself scarce and gets a text from Rose saying to come and bring beer. Tane offers to keep an eye on Mack. Nearby, John is on the phone trying to arrange someone to cover shifts.

Bella and Nikau arrive back at the farm house. Bella says this wasn’t what she meant when she told Nikau to sort his life out. Nikau says he needs money, although he doesn’t have much of a plan or idea what job to have, except not modelling. He asks Bella to help and she suggests they write a list of his strengths. Meanwhile, Felicity meets with Rose. Rose has spoken to colleagues and no-one knows about PK. Felicity notes he must just be a slimeball rather than a criminal. Rose has heard about Nathan and asks Felicity if she’s had dealings with him. Felicity says she’s asking for a friend.

Mackenzie greets PK at Salt and he insists on kissing her on the cheek instead of shaking hands. She asks a waitress, Toni, to get drinks and they sit down. PK asks if she has the $50,000. Mackenzie suggests holding the poker game: He keeps the $50,000 buy-in and she keeps anything else. PK says that she gets all the profit and he just gets what he’s owed. He notices Tane come in and tells Mackenzie she didn’t take the solution he offered, so he’ll organise poker nights there and keep all the profits. Mackenzie says it’s her restaurant and PK says for now, calling them business partners. Mackenzie tells him to get out, with Tane standing up behind her to reinforce the point. PK leaves but doesn’t seem fazed.

Bella and Nikau are looking through job sites without success. Bella suggests he work at the bait shop or board shop again but he says they don’t pay well enough. He also isn’t keen on working at the gym. Bella suggests training as a medic. He admits he wants to be a lifesaver but it doesn’t pay unless you’re full-time: He spoke to John about it once but it seemed too complicated. At the surf club, Alf finds Roo organising the hospital appointments into a spreadsheet. John comes over and tells them about Nikau quitting to get a paid job. He says Nikau’s the best lifesaver they’ve had in years (apart from himself) and wonders if they can help him.

Dean joins Mackenzie and Tane. Mackenzie says PK wants Salt. Dean still wants to sort out PK his way but Mackenzie is convinced if she apologises to PK he’ll come round. Dean and Tane are less convinced. Nathan comes in and Tane takes a step towards him, but Dean says if he doesn’t get to hit PK, Tane doesn’t get to hit Nathan. Tane leaves and Nathan tells Mackenzie they need to talk. Meanwhile, Rose tells Felicity that Nathan was doing well until a year ago, then he suddenly lost all his money, possibly because of a bad investment or gambling debt. An investor took him to court and he looked like he was going to jail but then someone bailed him out. They suspect PK. Felicity doesn’t think Nathan’s dangerous but Rose warns that being in debt to the wrong people can make you do anything.

Nathan tells Mackenzie she needs to listen to PK and do whatever he tells her. Mackenzie challenges him over holding Felicity hostage. Nathan says PK controls them both. Mackenzie says he’s the one that brought PK into her life and tells him to go. Dean steps up and reinforces the point. Nathan complies. Meanwhile, John arrives at the farm house. He says he’s not exactly there to talk Nikau into staying on: He wants to offer him a chance to be a paid lifeguard. The council would have to fund it, which means the surf club will need to make a proposal to them, but the committee are willing. Nikau hugs him in delight as Bella looks on.

Mackenzie dismisses her staff for the night, with Dean staying to help her close up. Two burly men come in and Mackenzie says they’re closed. One of them draws a knife and tells her to hand over the money in the till. Dean tells Mackenzie to let them have it. Downstairs, Felicity tells Tane about what Rose said. Tane is bemused that she went to a cop. Felicity thanks him for having her back. Upstairs, Dean and Mackenzie are kneeling with their hands on their heads. The thugs take the cash, then begin smashing bottles and overturning furniture. Tane and Felicity come up and Dean and Tane tackle a thug each while Felicity drags Mackenzie into cover. The two thugs flee but Tane stays on the floor, clutching his chest: His hand comes away with blood on it.
