Jasmine and Rose go head to head. Is Martha fit for surgery? Leah gives Dimitri a piece of her mind.

Extended Summary

Jasmine and Rose continue their heated volleyball game, with Xander umpiring. Xander declares the score 24-20 to Rose and tries to stop them bickering. They start again and Jasmine rises to hit a ball over the net, hitting Rose straight in the face. Xander gets some ice and a towel as Jasmine tends to her. Roo heads up to the house and remarks about the game to Alf and Martha. Alf realises Martha has been nursing a cup of tea for twenty minutes. Martha says it’s just the dialysis wearing off but promises she hasn’t changed her mind about the transplant. She suggests they go out in the sun and stops Alf helping her.

At the hospital, Justin is on the phone to Leah, telling her to let him know what happens. John turns up to see him. They remark that they can see now what Theo’s been putting up with. At the police station, Leah is in the interview room with Theo as Cash asks him when it started. Theo says he was fourteen: No-one outside the immediate family knew what was happening and they just blamed the black eyes and broken ribs on footie. He says Dimitri only did it when he talked back and Cash tells him he doesn’t need to make excuses. Theo says he’s not the son Dimitri wanted and he doesn’t know how to change that. Cash gives him and Leah some time alone. Dimitri asks if he gets his say now and is dismissive when Cash says Theo is upset.

Jasmine and Xander bring Rose to the hospital and find a free cubicle. Rose thinks Jasmine did it on purpose and says she wants to see a doctor, not her. Jasmine says Rose can let her help or wait an hour for a doctor. Meanwhile, Theo signs his statement and asks what will happen to Dimitri. Cash says he’ll stay to give his statement and they’ll also send someone to take a statement from Justin. As they go through the main area, Dimitri mockingly comments on family loyalty. Leah tells him to take some responsibility and Dimitri calls her a soft touch. Cash calls Dimitri through.

Alf, Martha and Roo are walking on the beach. Roo says they might be able to make it to the lighthouse after the operation. Alf says they haven’t even booked it yet and suggests they could go fishing together instead. Martha starts coughing and Alf offers to get the car, not wanting her to faint. Meanwhile, Rose, Xander and Jasmine arrive at Salt. Rose and Jasmine are still bickering, with Jasmine wondering if Rose should be drinking on pain meds. Xander says Rose is acting like a crazy person and he’s pretty sure “warrior volleyball princess” isn’t normal for Jasmine. He leaves them alone and they both admit it’s been weird for them. They suggest another volleyball game once Rose’s nose has healed.

Leah and Theo have joined Justin at the hospital. Leah is annoyed that Dimitri still thinks he’s done nothing wrong. Justin hopes the charges will be a wake-up call. Theo wonders if Dimitri was right and he should take the complaint back. Leah and Justin tell him Dimitri needed to stop and he might get the help he needs now. At the police station, Dimitri is trying to convince Cash that he and Theo are like any other father and son and Theo needs a firm hand. Cash says he’ll be charged with the assault of Justin and child abuse: He’ll be kept overnight and see the magistrate in the morning and should call a lawyer. Cash opens up a laptop and plays the video of Theo’s interview, leaving him alone. Theo talks about how they got into an argument when he accidentally scratched Dimitri’s car and he hit him; he couldn’t go to school for a week because of a black eye; Dimitri snapped his collarbone while holding him down and they told the hospital he’d fallen off his skateboard; and finally again how he wasn’t the son Dimitri wanted. Dimitri looks increasingly uncomfortable and closes the laptop.

Next morning, Rose and Xander are packing up the car at the caravan park. Xander jokes that Rose’s nose will be all right with plastic surgery and she admits Jasmine did a good job. She asks Xander about him applying for a local job and he notes he likes being around Rose. Rose is about to tell him something when she gets a phone call. After a brief chat, she tells Xander it was the sergeant from Yabbie Creek police station approving her transfer. She says it’s up to him now whether they move there or not. A short time later, the pair of them are walking, with Xander slightly bewildered Rose made the decision without him. Cash and Jasmine arrive and Xander asks her about the paramedic job before they explain they’re moving. Jasmine hugs the pair of them and Cash clasps hands with Xander.

At the Diner, John offers some words of encouragement to Justin, Theo and Leah before going to talk to Irene. Theo is feeling guilty that Justin got hit, saying it wouldn’t have happened if he wasn’t living with them. Justin tells him that it’s up to Dimitri how he deals with his anger and he’s pleased Theo’s living with them. As the three of them walk outside, Dimitri approaches. He says he didn’t mean to put Justin in hospital: He’s been charged and bailed. He says he wanted the best for Theo but was a bit harsh. His lawyer has told him he’ll probably get a good behaviour bond and anger management. He asks Leah to look after Theo, and he and Theo say their awkward goodbyes.

Roo tells Alf to leave the dishes because she doesn’t want to be late for the appointment. She wants to leave early in case there’s bad traffic. Martha has trouble standing up and Alf says it’s what happened in Merimbula. Martha says she just stood up too quickly. At the Diner, Jasmine tells Irene and John about Rose and Xander moving there but declines Irene’s offer to set up the spare room, saying they need their space. John gets a call from Gerald about being two months behind and says he’ll talk to Mackenzie, telling the others it’s surf club business.

Alf, Roo and Martha are preparing to leave. Alf goes to start the car while Martha goes to fill her water bottle. Once she’s alone, she starts coughing again. Roo catches her but she insists she doesn’t want to be late for the appointment.
