Is Mackenzie still in love with Ari? Roo won’t play happy families. Theo refuses a family reunion. Dean wants to help the Paratas, but how?

Extended Summary

Dean and Ziggy walk out the surf club, commenting on being back in town after their camping and discussing Jai’s reaction to Dean putting up the tent. They run into Logan and comment on how they’ll have to teach him to surf. They ask him about Mackenzie and he invites them for breakfast to see her themselves. They head back to the flat, getting Mackenzie out of bed. She asks them about the camping. Logan suggests he and Mackenzie go with them next time, prompting amused reactions to the idea of Mackenzie camping.

Roo finds Alf sat outside the house. He says he’s been on the phone to Martha and Roo’s call meant a lot to her. He notes that, now he’s sorted things with Justin and Ryder, he’s going to go and join her in Merimbula. Roo quickly leaves, saying she’s going to the Diner. There, Theo teases Justin about another fry-up, thinking he won’t do groceries until Leah’s about to come back. Roo arrives and tells Justin that Alf’s going to Merimbula and wants her to go with him. Justin suggests she’s lucky to have both her parents around and advises she talk to Alf. Roo apologises for dumping things on him with Leah and Marilyn away. Justin notes if Leah was there she’d tell her to be straight with Alf.

Dean asks Mackenzie how she is and Ziggy asks if she made it to Ari’s farewell. Mackenzie tries to change the subject, asking about the trip, and Ziggy mentions teaching Jai to surf. Dean talks about remembering the good times with Ari, and Mackenzie walks out. Ziggy goes after her and Dean asks Logan what’s going on. Down on the pier, Mackenzie tells Ziggy what Logan said about her still being in love with Ari. She says she feels like she’s betraying Logan because she can’t stop thinking about Ari and how happy they were before he took it away.

At the Diner, Justin talks to Theo about the lack of staff at the Diner. Theo wonders when Leah will be back. Justin suggests Theo talk to his parents but Theo says Dimitri doesn’t want anything to do with him with Theo happy to keep it that way. At the surf club, Dean and Ziggy discuss how Logan and Mackenzie are handling things. Logan joins Mackenzie on the pier and she confirms she spoke to Ziggy but still feels uncomfortable talking about her ex with him, even though they talked about Neve. Logan walks away.

Ziggy thanks Justin for giving her time off and asks how his bachelor pad’s going. Justin notes he and Theo both miss Leah. He asks Ziggy if she misses her family, commenting again on how Theo never speaks to his and doesn’t miss them. Meanwhile, Roo arrives back outside the house. Alf is sorting through old towels to donate. He asks Roo if she’ll be able to cope with orders at the bait shop, the Blaxland needing fixing and a freezer being on the blink, and offers to take someone else on to free up her time. Roo tells him she doesn’t need him putting pressure on her. Alf is utterly bemused and Roo says she’s going to the gym.

Dean accosts Mackenzie when she arrives at the surf club. Mackenzie tells him what Logan said about being in love with Ari and how she’s not sure if it’s true or not. Dean suggests it’s just unfinished business. Mackenzie says she’s not going to get closure now and Dean tells her she needs to say goodbye in her own way. Mackenzie walks out into the sea, saying they had a bumpy ride but Ari was loyal, a good man and a good friend to her after they broke up and that’s how she’ll remember him.

Justin runs into Theo outside the Diner again. Justin offers to call Dimitri about him but Theo firmly insists he doesn’t want anything to do with his dad. Justin calls Leah, saying he’s worried about Theo. Meanwhile, Logan finds Mackenzie at the flat. She says she’s thought it over and now knows she’s not still in love with Ari: He was a good friend to her still after they broke up and that’s why she’s upset. Meanwhile, Justin joins Theo inside the Diner and says he spoke to Leah about coming home. He notes he’ll have to do the groceries but jokes Theo will have to tidy his room.

Roo is sat in the surf club and asks Dean how long the gym will be closed for, which he doesn’t know. Alf comes in and insists they go upstairs and talk, saying he knows she’s been avoiding having a conversation about Merimbula. As they settle in Salt, Roo says she’s not going to change her mind about going. Alf asks her why she thinks he’s pressuring her. Roo points out he told her Martha was overjoyed about her call and tried to get someone else to take over the bait shop. Alf says he was just getting her help and she admits she overreacted. Alf says he and Martha would both love her to come down but it’s up to her.

Dean is sat outside the surf club looking at the sign about the gym being closed. Ziggy joins him and they discuss Mackenzie making up with Logan. Dean wonders how the Paratas are coping without money coming in and thinks he should have helped keep it open, like Nik did with the board shop when he was out of action. Meanwhile, John is driving Nikau and Tane back into town. He asks them how it went and they both give short answers, seeming distracted.
