Why is Logan spying on Mackenzie? Cash has a problem with Irene. Justin tests Theo’s trust.

Extended Summary

Logan finds Mackenzie sitting on the beach; he has just come off a night shift. He suggests a swim but she says she has to get to work and dodges his attempts to talk about Ari, although she does mention Nikau and Tane being in New Zealand. Logan follows her as she heads towards Salt. At the police station, Jasmine asks Cash why he’s being weird. Cash argues that bumping into your landlord in your underwear in the middle of the night is weird and Jasmine retorts that most people would laugh about it the next day. Cash says he still feels like a guest. Felicity calls from the counter that she’s got an emergency: She needs to report her overprotective brother missing since she hasn’t heard from him in 48 hours. Jasmine decides to go since her lunch date’s been cancelled. Felicity requests an explanation.

Mackenzie isn’t happy about Logan propping up the bar. Ryder arrives and tells Mackenzie about the tribute video and how it upset Mia. He asks Mackenzie how she’s going and she claims she’s fine, sending Logan away. At the garage, Justin comments on Theo constantly sweeping the same spot. Justin says Mia was harsh with them while Theo has decided not to upload the video to Nikau and Tane. Justin suggests they give Theo’s car a tune-up.

Ryder comes downstairs with a pizza for a “Mr Smith”, who turns out to be Logan. He asks Ryder to keep an eye on Mackenzie for him. Ryder isn’t keen on the idea of spying on her but takes Logan’s number. Logan asks how Ryder;s handling it and Ryder says he’s fine. At the Diner, Jasmine comments that Cash was comfortable around Irene before he moved in. Irene says it explains why he’s so polite but dismisses it as teething issues. Jasmine isn’t so sure.

Cash and Felicity walk towards the caravan park. Felicity comments that Cash has been seen in his underwear before and Irene has seen a man in his underwear before. Cash asks what it would take for her to say she needs him to move back in and Felicity says about a billion dollar, She is amused at him asking her for advice for once but Cash isn’t laughing. Later, sat outside the van, Felicity says Cash isn’t used to living with someone else: When it was just the two of them, she let him decide everything. She says things are going to be different now so he has to make it work or smash Jasmine’s heart into a million pieces. Cash leaves, not feeling any better.

Ryder offers to help Mackenzie with her insurance paperwork. She asks him his TAFE hours for the month and he explains about graduating. Mackenzie wonders if he’s going to leave. Ryder suggests a pay rise to reflect his new qualifications and she agrees, heading towards the balcony. Ryder calls Logan but Mackenzie comes back straightaway, leading to him pretending to be telling a customer that they’re fully booked and to try the Diner instead, while managing to get the message across that Mackenzie’s doing well. Mackenzie wonders what he was going on about, since they have open bookings and never send people to the Diner.

Felicity arrives at the Diner saying she was hoping to see Irene and Jasmine before her shift. She says Cash struggles with new people because he’s uptight but just wishes them luck getting him to relax. Irene tells Jasmine to bring Cash to her. Soon after, at Salt, Ryder is showing Felicity the tribute video for Ari. Felicity shows it to Mackenzie and she watches a video of Roo talking about how Ari’s heart belonged to Mia and he would do anything for her. Mackenzie walks away and Ryder tries to apologise for not including her. He suggests she take time off but Mackenzie tells him to get back to work.

As Justin and Theo work on the car, Justin asks Theo if anyone close to him has died. Theo recalls that his mum’s mother died when he was ten. Justin helps him realise that his mum wasn’t herself in the aftermath and that’s how Mia is now. Justin says the important thing is that Theo tried to do a nice thing. Later, as they’re testing the engine, Theo comments on how he thought he and his dad had turned a corner when his dad gave him the car but he kicked him out just a couple of months later. Justin notes that Theo never talks about Dimitri but Theo quickly changes the subject to the car.

Jasmine brings Cash to the beach house where Irene is waiting. Irene tells him that she’s had more male housemates than he’s had hot meals and he needs to feel comfirtable there. Cash admits he’s never lived with anyone but his family. Irene says either they all wear their underwear until he feels comfortable or they shake hands and chill out. He goes for the second one. Meanwhile, Justin meets up with Alf, who is fishing on the pier. Alf says he’s preoccupied with Martha being sick somewhere else and with Ari’s send-off. Justin comments on Theo not seeing his parents at all. Alf suggests Justin throw a line in.

Felicity gets Mackenzie a glass of water and notes Ryder told her Ari was her ex. Mackenzie isn’t keen to talk and Felicity warns her not to bottle things up. Logan arrives and Mackenzie realises Ryder called him. She isn’t happy and walks out. Logan follows despite her telling him not to. He says she always deflects and that he thought Neve was dead for two years. Mackenzie says Ari isn’t coming back and she doesn’t know what to do with it. Logan leaves.

That evening, Mackenzie joins Logan on the balcony at home and apologises. She isn’t sure why she’s feeling the way she is, numb and overwhelmed with memories. Logan suggests she’s still in love with Ari and walks away again.
