Extended Summary

Tane is clearing up after a class on the beach. Mackenzie comes over and relates how she either quit or was fired as Dean’s carer and how Ziggy’s back now. As they chat, Felicity watches them from over by the surf club, looking unhappy. At the Diner, Mia rambles to Ari about needing to sort out new classes and get a plumber to fix a leaking tap. She gives him Jasmine’s old keys. Alf comes in and he and Marilyn learn the pair now own the gym. Mia adds that she’ll make a donation to the fundraiser. Marilyn comments on having the right person by your side.

Dean gets himself to his feet and asks Ziggy for another coffee. Mackenzie turns up. Dean apologises for giving her a hard time for calling Ziggy, saying it was the right call. Ziggy says he has his first rehab session at the gym with his physio that afternoon. Dean wants to cancel. Later, Mackenzie presses the matter. Dean retorts that she was meant to be leaving. Mackenzie has Ziggy walk her out and wonders what’s going on. Ziggy suggests it could be because Tane might be there. Mackenzie says to leave that to her.

Justin sits in the empty house until Leah comes in. He notes the removal truck’s on its way and reflects on them having the house to themselves, although at least they won’t have Grace waking them up at 5. He notices the figurines have been left behind and Leah suggests Tori did it on purpose. Meanwhile, Mia and Ari are walking near the Diner. Mia stresses that they deserve this. Ari agrees to get the ball rolling with the adoption. Mia says she’ll get them to send the paperwork.

Mackenzie approaches Alf at the surf club, wondering if he’s seen Tane. Felicity comes over and tells her Tane is not a good guy. Mackenzie takes her aside and says she’s seen Felicity watching Tane and thinks she’s the deluded one, despite Felicity insisting she needs to watch her back. At the gym, Ari tells Mia they’ve been e-mailed the application form already. Jasmine has agreed to write them a character reference and Mia says they’ll just have to be honest about his record. Ari starts filling out the form but isn’t sure what to put for employment. Mia says small business owner.

Mackenzie has filled Tane in on her conversation with Felicity. Tane says he hoped she’d got the message, just as Felicity comes round the side of the surf club and glares at them before walking off. Mackenzie gets a text from Ziggy saying “Any luck with Tane?” and invites him to get a beer with her at Salt. Tane was planning to go to the gym but agrees when she explains Ziggy and Dean are coming. Ziggy gets a text from Mackenzie and suggests she and Dean go to the Diner and then the gym. She tells him Tane won’t be there but Dean says he’s not bothered about that and Ziggy realises it was her issue. Dean explains that he’s worried about how much pain he’ll be in during the session.

Dean and Ziggy turn up at the surf club and meet up with Ari and Mia. Mia explains she’s been avoiding Dean since the accident because she was worried about bringing back bad memories. Dean says she kept him alive and expresses his condolences about the baby. Mia tells him the physio is waiting inside. Soon after, the physio is putting Dean through a gruelling regime. Mia goes over to Ziggy, who repeats Dean’s thanks for helping him. Ari chats to Dean about buying the gym, saying Mia had savings. They ponder on how quickly things have moved between Dean and Ziggy. Ari wonders what will happen when Dean’s back on his feet and Dean admits they haven’t talked about it.

Leah and Justin are walking on the beach. Justin admits he has no plans and it’s the wrong weather for surfing. They run into Alf and Marilyn outside the Diner and Marilyn says she has some photos of the wedding. Alf takes Justin aside and Justin says the wedding was perfect. Alf reminds him that he and Leah were planning to live on their own before what happened with Susie. That evening, Leah arrives home, chatting on the phone to Theo, and finds a candlelit meal set up. Justin explains he’s realised they have to make the most of their new start and also reflects on having the entire house to themselves. He kisses her and lifts her up onto the counter.

Back home, Ari and Mia are looking over the application on her laptop. Ari tells Mia that it’s ready and guides her hand into pressing the Send button. At the farm house, Dean and Ziggy are eating with her commenting on not being able to cook much except tuna pasta. Dean asks whether they’d be living together if it hadn’t been for his accident and Ziggy refuses to answer.

Mackenzie and Tane take a table at Salt. Felicity comes in and comments on Mackenzie not taking her advice. She sits at the next table, saying it’s a free country. Mackenzie tells her to go, since she has the right to refuse service, and Felicity sullenly complies. Later, Mackenzie is leaving the surf club but keeps hearing a rustling in the bushes. She calls out, wondering if it’s Felicity, but gets no answer. She gets into her car and drives off. Someone moves in the bushes.
