Extended Summary

Bella and Nikau walk along the pier, wondering what to do about Ryder and Chloe, and noting that if they get on with both of them, they should be able to get on with each other. Bella suddenly has a “genius” plan: They play pool with the pair and get them to team up so they have to work together. Bella says she’ll take Ryder and Nikau can take Chloe. Meanwhile, Tori, Christian and Grace arrive at the Diner having just got off their overnight flight and are greeted by Leah and Justin. Justin asks what Brody and Raffy thought of Christian, but Tori knows they’d have called him and Justin confirms they gave the thumbs up.

Ziggy and Tane arrive back at the farm house after a night out dancing and prepare to go to bed, not necessarily to sleep. Mackenzie appears and they both note she looks terrible. She says Ari dumped her. At the Parata house, Chloe is trying to get Ari to talk to her, or better yet Mia, but Ari is going to go and work out. Nikau arrives to see Chloe and Ari takes the opportunity to leave. Chloe says it had better be important and Nikau asks her to play pool. Chloe says that’s the opposite of important, but she’s got nothing better to do.

At the same time, Bella accosts Ryder and checks that he was on the early shift and is finishing soon, befoe asking him to join her for pool. Ryder seems willing, but then gets a call from Ziggy saying Mackenzie’s sick and he needs to cover. Bella texts Nikau saying chain of plan. Down in the gym, Ari is lifting weights. Mia turns up and tries to deny she was there for a workout, saying she was just checking on her CV. Ari convinces her to stay.

Ziggy brings some drinks over to Mackenzie. Tane decides to leave after a quiet farewell to her, and Mackenzie tells him not to let Ari know what a mess she is. Ziggy asks Mackenzie what happened. Mackenzie notes Ari asked her for some space but she always expected him to come back to her. Instead, he told her it wasn’t fair to keep her waiting while he sorted things with Mia. Ziggy asks if Mackenzie would want to be with someone who has feelings for someone else. Mackenzie says it’s not that simple: She’s pregnant. Back at the Diner, Tori is having a catch-up with Justin but Grace is unsettled and Leah is busy on the phone, so Tori wakes Christian and leaves. Leah comes over to Justin and says Susie has found the perfect house for them.

Nikau and Chloe arrive at the surf club and Nikau tries to get Chloe to go for a meal at Salt before the pool game. Chloe isn’t keen to eat at her work place, especially when they bump into Ryder and Bella on the stairs and everyone realises what’s going on. Chloe refuses to talk and Ryder says he’s working. Bella tells Nikau it’s time for some divide and conquer. In the gym, Mia is punching a bag. Ari tries to give her advice and then asks what she’s doing afterwards. Mia caustically asks if he has plans with his girlfriend and, after an awkward silence, Ari leaves.

Ziggy asks Mackenzie what she’s going to do. Mackenzie says she’s only known about it for a few days. She was hoping Ari would choose her and they could sort it out together, but now that’s not going to happen. She notes she wouldn’t know what to do even if they were together. Ziggy suggests a tub of ice cream but Mackenzie decides to head into work, despite Ziggy arranging for Ryder to cover. Meanwhile, Leah and Justin arrive home gushing about the house they saw. Christian has lunch ready and Tori assures them she didn’t cook it. Justin says the house has a spare room for Ava and a back yard for Buddy. Tori would like to see it so Justin offers to show her straightaway. They pile out, leaving a bemused Christian commenting to Leah that they’re like conjoined twins.

Tane bumps into Ari outside the Diner and tells him he heard about the break-up from Mac and she’s about how you’d expect. Ari says it was the right thing to do since he feels like he’s been lying to Mackenzie since Mia came back. He says nothing’s changed between him and Mia, leaving Tane bewildered that he broke up with someone he cared about for that. Meanwhile, Mia is exiting the gym as Mackenzie comes into the surf club. Mackenzie tells her about the break-up and brushes aside her attempt at sympathy.

Up in Salt, Nikau tries to convince Chloe that Ryder’s fun, with Ryder equally unconvinced by Bella’s suggestion he and Chloe got off on the wrong foot. Mackenzie arrives and tells Ryder he can go, claiming she just had a two hour bug. Ryder would rather work but Bella drags him over to Chloe and Nikau’s table. Bella and Nikau insist the four of them have a night out in Yabbie Creek, and not to a movie but somewhere where the others have to spend time together. Meanwhile, Tane arrives back at the farm house and he and Ziggy compare notes on how Ari and Mackenzie are feeling. Tane doubts Mackenzie will want him around but Ziggy says she’s okay with her after she broke up with Dean. They decide to focus on themselves… especially since they have the house to themselves.

Justin and Tori arrive back home. Tori gives a lukewarm response to the house, saying the bedrooms are too small, the back yard doesn’t get enough sun and they’ll be paying for a pool despite having a beach close by. Leah and Christian retreat to the back yard leaving them arguing. Meanwhile, Bella and Nikau are preparing to go out clubbing and tell Ari that Chloe’s gone to get drinks. Mia arrives as the youngsters are leaving and asks Ari about him breaking up with Mac, wondering how their conversation led him to decide that. She thinks Ari’s trying to wear her down. Ari asks if it’s working.

Chloe catches up with Ryder and they discuss their misery about the night, while Bella and Nikau, approaching the bus stop a few yards away, worry what to do if the night doesn’t work. Ryder suggests they fake being friends and he and Chloe wave to Bella and Nikau with smiles on their faces, while trading insults under their breath. A van pulls up at the bus stop and the occupants start dragging Bella and Nikau inside. Chloe runs over, followed by Ryder, but they get dragged inside as well and the van drives off.
