Extended Summary

Robbo and Jasmine are waiting in the corridor outside Tori’s room. Grace can be heard crying inside. Robbo wants to go in but Mason comes out with Grace, who he gives to Jasmine. He notes that this is the best they could hope for. Mason and Robbo join Justin and Alex at Tori’s bedside. Alex asks Tori if she knows where she is. Tori can’t answer, so Alex explains she’s at Northern Districts Hospital, introducing herself and saying she’s filling in for her. Tori doesn’t react to mentions of Grace and having Justin, Robbo and Mason pointed out to her. Alex asks her to squeeze her hands but Tori only does so on the right. Similarly, she can push against Alex with her right hand but not the left. Justin quietly asks Mason what it means and Mason tells him to let Alex get on. Back at the Stewart house, Marilyn thanks Martha for the anniversary meal and John says they’ll do it again next year. Roo apologises for not being there. Irene notes it’s a shame Leah had to dash off. Alf says to let them know if they hear anything from her.

Tori is now talking, covering up her trachea hole to do so. Alex explains she had postpartum eclampsia. Mason says she’s been in a coma and Justin says it was six weeks. Robbo says he and Jasmine have been looking after Grace but Tori gets agitated and Alex sends the others to join Jasmine in the corridor. Mason goes to tell Brody and Raffy; Justin tells him to also let Leah know. Jasmine wonders if Tori wants to see Grace and Justin and Robbo admit she hasn’t mentioned her. Later, Robbo, Jasmine and Grace arrive back at the flat and Robbo goes to settle Grace. Irene arrives, wondering if there’s any news. Jasmine is surprised Leah didn’t tell her Tori was awake; Irene says she hasn’t spoken to her. She invites Jasmine downstairs to get a takeaway.

Alex joins Justin and Mason. Justin is anxious that Tori still hasn’t asked about Grace and also that she couldn’t move her left side. Alex reminds him she’s had a stroke and says it could resolve itself in time. Justin thinks Alex and Mason are keeping something from him but they tell him they don’t have answers to give just yet. After Alex has gone, Justin admits he thought Tori waking up would be the end. At the Diner, Irene and Jasmine fill in John and Marilyn, including on the fact that Tori woke up when she heard Grace crying. Jasmine notes however that it won’t be a quick recovery. Irene takes Jasmine to a table for a private chat. Jasmine admits that things are uncertain now Tori’s awake but doesn’t want anyone to think she doesn’t want her to recover. She admits she didn’t expect to love Grace as much as she does,

A sleeping Tori is wheeled past Justin and Mason. Alex says the scans were as expected and they have to wait for the neuro team to assess her. After she’s gone, Justin reflects on the fact that Tori wanted a kid badly and now doesn’t seem to know she has one. Mason says he’s done thinking about worst case scenarios: Tori is awake and talking. Meanwhile, Jasmine arrives back at the flat and finds Robbo looking after Grace; her expression changes to a sad one.

At the Diner, Irene is closing up and asks John and Marilyn if they’ve heard from Leah this afternoon. They predict that she’s probably at the hospital with Justin. Irene leaves Leah a message saying she understands if she needs another day off but to keep her in the loop. At the Diner flat, Robbo and Jasmine debate the likelihood of Grace sleeping through. They reflect on the mixed reaction they’re both having to Tori recovering. Robbo isn’t looking forward to the possibility of only seeing Grace at weekends and they wonder if they need to reconsider their move.

Alf pours Martha a glass of wine and says she did a good thing today and he was wrong to try and stop her. Roo listens in from the corridor as Alf tells Martha they’re lucky to have her. Martha says they both are. Next morning, Alf and Martha banter about her taking a long time to get ready. After Martha has gone upstairs to get her handbag, Roo tells Alf that she heard him the previous night and it was nice to hear him and Martha getting along.

At the Diner, John and Marilyn get an update from Mason. Irene gives him his takeaway. She is surprised when Mason says to get Leah to phone Justin and that she isn’t at the hospital, and he also isn’t sure Justin has spoken to her since he’s been focused on Tori. After he’s gone, Irene worries that no-one has heard from Leah since yesterday afternoon. Outside, Mason runs into Robbo and Jasmine walking Grace. He says Tori hasn’t mentioned her yet but it’s still early days. He sympathises with them, since everything’s up in the air.

Tori wakes up and finds Justin asleep in a chair next to her. She nudges him with her left hand, which he quickly picks up on when he wakes. Alex and Mason enter and also register it. Alex says Tori will have a meeting with neuro and with the physio. Tori asks about Brody and Raffy; Mason says they wanted to come down but they decided it’d be better to wait until she’s back on her feet. Tori asks about Robbo, Jasmine and the baby. Justin says Grace and Tori says she knows her name. Justin says they’ll arrange for her to see her. At the Diner flat, Jasmine gets Grace dressed up to go to the hospital. Robbo thanks her and they note it’s not going to be easy.

Jasmine goes into the hospital room first to check on Tori, who thanks her. Robbo follows in with Grace. Justin, Mason and Alex look on as Robbo hands Grace to Tori. However, after initially being pleased, Tori seems distressed. Robbo and Jasmine give them some space but Tori gets Justin to take Grace, saying that’s not her baby.
