Extended Summary

Robbo and Jasmine are walking with Grace near the beach. Despite not seeming to be tired or hungry, she won’t stop crying. Jasmine suggests Robbo go to work while she looks after her. Alex comes over and Jasmine suggests Grace is picking up on their tension. Alex says she’s going to try and take Tori off the ventilator once she gets to the hospital. Robbo is shocked that it’s going to be that soon but Alex says there’s no reason to wait. Robbo goes to the gym and is surprised to find Mason there. He explains Justin sent him home to get some sleep but there was no chance of that. Robbo asks if there’s anything he can do to help and Mason suggests he make things up with Justin. Robbo says he was worried and will be thinking of them. Mason suggests he tell Justin that, saying they need to support each other.

Alf, Martha, Irene, John and Marilyn are all at the Diner as Leah arrives. She says Justin’s at the hospital waiting. Irene offers her the chance to be with him but she says she’d rather stay busy. Marilyn tells John she thinks they should cancel their reservation at Salt and he agrees. Alf knows it’s their wedding anniversary, reminding Marilyn that he gave her away. He and Martha head home and they discuss how hard the day is going to be on people. Martha says she can’t imagine telling a child her mother can’t be there for her. Alf looks at her flabbergasted and the atmosphere becomes awkward. Martha tries to apologise but Alf says he has some things to do outside.

Robbo and Jasmine are at Salt with Grace, who is still unsettled and crying; Jasmine notes they aren’t very popular with the other patrons. Robbo is unsure about trying to build bridges with Justin, unsure how he’d react if he just turned up at the hospital. Jasmine suggests he send Justin a text, then it’s up to him whether or not he responds. At the hospital, Justin, Mason and Alex are all by Tori’s bedside as they prepare to get started. Justin gets Robbo’s text (saying “Sorry things blew up. Call me”), but tells Mason it’s nothing that can’t wait. Alex explains they will slowly reduce the number of breaths the ventilator delivers, hoping Tori will take breaths herself in the gaps.

At the Diner, Leah reports to Irene and Marilyn that the process has started but it’ll be a while before they know anything. They again suggest she go to the hospital but she wants to give Justin and Mason some space. She apologises to Marilyn for her not celebrating her wedding anniversary and they reflect on how it’s been five years and how love isn’t all hearts and flowers. At the caravan park, Alf is clearing up rubbish left behind by guests. Martha approaches with a bottle in a bag which she explains is an anniversary present for John and Marilyn. She apologises for being insensitive before. Alf notes they’ve already put it behind them but Martha notes the hurt is still there. Alf says they’ll go to the Diner once he finishes up.

Robbo and Jasmine are sat on the steps outside the flat. Robbo asks what will happen if it’s all for nothing. Jasmine says if Tori doesn’t respond, she’ll probably be put back on the ventilator and the Morgans will have to decide on her long term care. Grace starts crying and Robbo goes up to check on her. Alf and Martha arrive. Martha offers to babysit but Jasmine says Robbo probably needs Grace with him. In the Diner, John arrives with a bunch of flowers for Marilyn, saying he’s making a delivery. Alf and Martha enter and John explains the flowers are from Jett. Martha asks when they finish work and, on learning it’s in five minutes, invites John, Marilyn, Irene and Leah back to theirs for a barbecue and drinks. Alf’s expression suggests this is news to him.

Alex notes Tori’s oxygen levels are dropping and she isn’t taking any breaths on her own. Justin wants to keep trying but Alex goes to inform the neuro team. Justin remains blindly optimistic but Mason can’t stay, feeling like they’ve already lost her. Justin plays Tori some music, recalling how it was played at Tori’s 16th birthday party. Later, Jasmine is going for a run and comes across Mason upset. Mason says nothing has happened and he’s starting to fear bringing Tori home was a mistake which has got Justin’s hopes up. He points out Tori had a bleed on the frontal lobe. Jasmine says she’s known people recover from that but Mason says only if they come out of the coma sooner: Even if Tori wakes up, she might not be able to talk or hold Grace. Jasmine encourages him to be with his family.

Alf and Martha walk through the caravan park, laden down with shopping. Alf isn’t sure about the plan but Martha says she’s seen how the people in the Bay support each other and notes Alf and Roo must have had that support when she disappeared. She says she’s part of that community now. Later, up at the house, Alf reports the barbie’s fired up; he’s left a message for Roo and Ryder’s offered to clean up afterwards. Martha gives him some napkins to put out and notes the past created a bond between him and Ruth. Irene, Leah, John and Marilyn arrive (John has some beers). Irene checks Martha is up to it but she notes she wouldn’t want to be anywhere else. Alf starts pouring drinks.

Justin is sitting alone at the hospital and gets a text from Leah saying to call her if she can do anything. At the flat, Robbo is trying to settle Grace. He checks his phone and tells Jasmine there’s no news. Justin sends Leah a reply saying they’re still hoping. Mason returns to the hospital and silently sits with Justin. At the caravan park house, Martha produces a cake with five candles on it and they reminisce about Roo organising a flypast at the wedding. John gives Marilyn a moonstone ring as a present. Alf proposes a toast to Tori. Leah gets a phone alert and goes out into the corridor. Irene follows her and talks about her supporting Justin; Leah says she’s never quite loved like this and would do anything for him. She gets a call with no ID and assumes it’s the hospital. Irene leaves her alone. Leah answers the call and confirms it’s her speaking. Sounding annoyed at what the caller says, she asks who it is.

Alex tries to get a response from Tori before suggesting they try again. Justin tells Mason she could still wake up and Mason suggests they keep talking to her, advising Justin calls Robbo. At the flat, Robbo takes the call and thanks Justin for letting him know. Jasmine brings Grace through; she is still unsettled. Robbo looks at her as though having an idea. He and Jasmine take Grace to the hospital and Robbo says he thought she should be with Tori, saying it’s the first time she’s stopped crying all day. Justin takes Grace from him and tells Tori she’s there. Grace starts grumbling again and Mason wonders if it was a good idea bringing her. However, Alex then reports Tori is breathing on her own and responding to pain. With encouragement from Justin, Tori opens her eyes and looks around.
