Alex attempts to hypnotise Robbo to find out the truth about Dylan Carter. After finding Maggie at rock bottom, Ziggy comes up with a new plan to help them all cope with Ben’s depression.
Extended Summary
Ziggy finds Ben sitting on the beach with his board. She admits she’d hoped he’d still be with Maggie. Ben says he can’t give Maggie what she wants and cuts the conversation short by heading out for a surf. Justin comes along and Ziggy asks him to keep an eye on Ben while she checks on Maggie. She heads home where she is shocked to see Maggie with a large glass of wine, having finished the bottle. She says her marriage is over: She begged Ben to stay and he ignored her. Ziggy says he’s depressed but Maggie says he’d rather flirt with other women than be with her. Ziggy tells her to have a shower and sober up.
Robbo stares into a candle flame as Alex tries to get him to relax but he says it’s not working. Alex says he’s not relinquishing control to her and needs to. After a bit of needling from Jasmine, Robbo agrees to try again. Alex tells him to take deep breaths in and out, then asks him about the day he was on the boat with Dylan. He says he doesn’t remember it. However, then he has a flash of the sun, followed by a thud and a glimpse of the water. He says he remembers being on the boat.
Justin attempts to pay Ben a compliment about his surfing and also make small talk about the pier sale and him teaching surfing with Dean. He suggests being paid to surf is good but Ben says it’s pathetic that his daughter’s boyfriend had to take pity on him. Justin tries to invite him for a drink at Salt, suggesting they could talk or just sit, but Ben declines. Justin texts Ziggy, who tells Maggie that’s three of them Ben’s rejected. Maggie knows that Ben needs help but feels she’s failed him and made things worse. Ziggy thinks they need professional help: Not Ben, them. They’re out of their depth. She gets Maggie to call a helpline, which someone called Charlie answers. Maggie puts him on speaker phone and says she thinks her husband’s depressed and doesn’t know what to do.
Robbo continues to have flashbacks to the boat, recalling lying on the deck and seeing the red box (which Ash and Kat would later find). Dylan appeared in the doorway, calling him Beckett. Robbo lunged at him…but in reality, he lunges at Alex, pinning her to the wall and lifting her off her feet. She and Jasmine manage to bring him out of the trance and he apologises. He dashes for the lift, frantically pushing the call button. Jasmine and Alex follow, trying to get him to come back, but Robbo doesn’t want to risk it happening again and when the lift arrives he leaves.
Jasmine gets Alex a drink of water and checks she’s okay. Alex is, although she admits she hasn’t seen a reaction like Robbo’s before. Jasmine notes he’s normally gentle. Alex wonders where he would have gone. Robbo is hitting a bag in the gym as Alex and Jasmine arrive; they chat with Willow and also Mason, who reminds Alex they met when she helped Raffy. They approach Robbo, who is worried they might not snap him out of it next time. Alex says it’s more dangerous to leave the process incomplete: He could recall fragments while at home and attack Jasmine. Robbo agrees to go back but wants certain reassurances.
Mason ties Robbo into his chair; he will be staying in the room with him and Alex, but Jasmine won’t be there. Meanwhile, Ziggy and Maggie approach Ben, who is sat on the steps of his caravan. He tells them he’s not ready but Maggie says they’re not there to talk and will listen to him more from now on. She asks if they can sit there so he knows they’re there if he wants them. Ben doesn’t object so they settle at a nearby table.
Jasmine chats to Willow, explaining about the hypnotism and Robbo wanting to find Dylan. Both trust Alex after she helped Raffy. In the other room, Alex again leads Robbo back to memories of the boat and his struggle with Dylan. Dylan reached for a gun. There is the sound of a shot; Dylan lies on the deck, the blood splatters on the walls, while Robbo has the gun in his hand. He turns away, relaxes…and Dylan hits him on the head and tips him overboard. Memories of being in the water cause Robbo to get breathless and Alex nearly brings him round, but in his memory he surfaces and sees another boat approaching: The men on it help Dylan onboard. Robbo recognises one of them as Coulson. Alex brings Robbo round; he is slightly panicked and tells Mason to untie him.
Later, Robbo fills in some form and explains to Alex, Jasmine and the others that Coulson was the man with the snake mark. He leaves and Mason and Willow compliment Alex, who comments on the reality of this small town. She isn’t up for another PT session so Willow suggests a drink and Mason offers to shout her but Alex says she has patients to get to. Back at the motel, Jasmine joins an energised Robbo. She reminds him Coulson was a dead end before but Robbo says Carter was badly hurt which means someone patched him up: If they find that person, they find him.
