Extended Summary

John and Justin both see Ben with the surfboard on the beach and comment on it being good to see him out again. Ben notes making boards is his first love. Ziggy arrives and jokingly threatens to tell Maggie that. Although she didn’t come straightaway when he called, she is delighted with the board. Ben shows off the features, including three fins, and they go to try it out. John gets a phone call from Marilyn and tells Justin there’s a problem with Raffy. At the Diner, Leah joins Maggie, Marilyn and Raffy as Maggie says Raffy was let down by three subjects: French, maths and biology. Raffy says she’s only doing five. John and Justin arrive to commiserate. Maggie can see Raffy’s crowded so asks the others to give them some space to strategise. She follows the others to the counter where Justin mentions seeing Ben and Ziggy.

Robbo is on the phone to Lance, who apparently isn’t keen on the new situation with Jasmine. Robbo says she’s still being protected and it gives him more time to work on the case. He says he’s going to talk to people who knew Dylan: Looking at the evidence board, his gaze flicks over photos of Kat and Dylan before settling on Ash. Down on the beach, Justin and Leah discuss how Raffy was doing fine until she came off the CBD oil. Robbo appears and asks Leah for Ash’s contact details, explaining he needs to ask him about Dylan. Leah isn’t sure it’s a good idea, pointing out Ash left the country to get away from him and doesn’t know about Tori and the IVF. She agrees when Robbo says he’ll get someone else to make the call.

At the Diner, Maggie and Marilyn try to support Raffy. Maggie says she’s had good assignments and can turn it around in the final exams. She adds that Raffy can apply for more special consideration and she and Roo can help her revise. Raffy however feels that she can’t concentrate and all her work has been for nothing. Near the beach, Ziggy is following an agitated Ben, who has hold of the surfboard. She tells him she only fell off once and it wasn’t because of the board but Ben declares it a dud and angrily smashes it against the railing, breaking it. Ziggy shouts at him to stop, as does John. Ben drops the remains and runs off. John comforts Ziggy.

Robbo receives a phone call from Lance, who has learned that Ash and Robbo really weren’t friends. He also reveals Ash didn’t know anything useful and Robbo bemoans another dead end. Shortly after, at the gym, Mason is booking in a new member while Robbo pounds a bag. Mason says they recommend a free session with one of their instructors and also advise people to bring a towel, although if they forget, one will be provided. After the woman has gone, Mason hands a towel to Robbo. He gives a nod of thanks, wipes himself, then carries on hitting.

Raffy returns to the Diner and apologises for snapping before but says everything’s clearer: She needs to drop out of school. Marilyn and Maggie try to dissuade her but Raffy thinks there’s no other way and even if she gets the HSC she won’t get the marks to get into the course she wants. When Marilyn tries to disagree, Raffy says Marilyn may be happy to work in a diner but she wants to be a doctor or a vet or an engineer. She regrets the comment and runs out. Maggie gets a call from Ziggy and also hurries off, joining her and John near the beach. Ziggy doesn’t know what set Ben off. John says Ben didn’t seem to know where he was and needs proper help. Ben returns home where he paces and fiddles with his car keys. He sees a family photo and starts crying.

Mason runs into Marilyn near the beach. Marilyn tells him about Raffy failing the trials and how she wants to quit. They are frustrated that the solution was taken away. Marilyn points out Mason found a solution last time. Mason points out it got him arrested but Marilyn hopes he can find a legal option. Meanwhile, Justin finds Robbo at Salt and asks about Ash. Robbo says he struck out and explains the people after him think Carter’s alive and he knows how to find him. If he doesn’t, they’re all in danger. Robbo says Dylan vanished after he went on the boat; only the two of them know what happened and he can’t remember. Justin tells him he needs to do everything he can to find out.

Maggie arrives home and calls out to Ben, finding him in the kitchen. He attempts to downplay the incident with Ziggy, saying he’s just stressed and needed to vent. Maggie says that he scared their daughter and thinks he needs professional help. Ben insists nothing’s wrong with him and it’ll pass. Maggie says either he gets help or he leaves. In the Diner, Marilyn tells Mason that Raffy wants to follow in his footsteps. Raffy arrives and apologises for the comments she made to Marilyn earlier. They convince her to stay in school for now while they try and get her on another trial.

Ziggy returns home to find Ben has packed to leave. He says Maggie is throwing him out, which she denies. After he’s gone, Maggie breaks down in tears, saying she just wanted Ben to get help. At the caravan park house, Alf asks Ben how long he’ll be staying. Ben is vague and rejects Alf’s offer of help, saying he just wants the keys. He goes to the van where he sits with his head in his hands.

Robbo phones the number on the note he was given, saying he has information on Dylan and wants to meet. Much later, Robbo is working on his laptop at the motel, looking up Dylan’s death certificate. He gets a text saying “Let’s meet. Time/place TBC. Don’t disappoint.”
