Extended Summary
Simone joins Brody outside the surf club. He knew Coco was angry but thought she might have calmed down. He wonders if he should lie low, since Raffy’s enjoying having Coco at the party. Simone tells him that Raffy wants him there too…plus she needs help. Leah, Roo and Marilyn are dancing together as Brody and Simone arrive back at Salt. Coco is telling Raffy and Ryder about going out on the reef every day, although Ryder points out she also lives at a school. Coco says she’s made lots of cool friends but assures them no-one as cool as them. She asks about Bella and they awkwardly explain she’s grounded.
John and Jett arrive at the Diner to be greeted by Alf and Irene. Jett is in an upbeat mood about the flat, which he is officially moving into tomorrow. He asks for a takeaway coffee, since he wants to spend his last night in Summer Bay at Raffy’s party. Alf privately talks to John about how Jett seems to be able to handle everything. Cut to John and Jett staring up at the stairs leading to Salt, realising they should have thought a bit harder. John thinks Brody should have wheelchair access and starts thinking of a solution but Jett has his phone out and says he’s already ahead of him.
Leah, Justin and Mason are sitting on the balcony. Tori comes out and Mason goes to leave but Tori tells him the hospital still wants him to interview for the internship. Mason gets a text and tells Justin to come on. Roo comes out and congratulates Tori on how good she looks, asking if it’s twins. Meanwhile, Justin and Mason carry Jett, in his chair, up the stairs. Jett tells them not to get too drunk because he’ll need them to bring him back down. Marilyn and Raffy go to greet him and Raffy take him to the lolly bar. John remarks to Marilyn that Jett seems more ready than they are.
Brody serves Maggie at the bar; she compliments him on the party and he says he can’t take all the credit. He asks about Ziggy, saying he heard about her going on the rally with Dean and asking if Maggie and Ben are fine with that. Maggie says he can’t hurt her more than Brody did. Brody says he still cares but Maggie tells him to stop. Justin announces the cutting of the cake and Ryder takes a photo of Raffy, Tori, Brody, Mason, Justin, Leah and Simone with it. Brody announces Simone did a good job with the cake and Coco, in something of a stage whisper to Maggie, says she’s not going to eat something “the tramp” made. Brody tells her to leave Simone out of it but Coco retorts that Brody brought her into it and she’s not going to pretend to be happy families.
Later, Maggie tells Coco that she understands why she said it but Raffy’s party wasn’t the place. Coco realises she needs to apologise. Brody tells Justin, Leah, Tori and Mason he can’t find Simone. Justin offers to help look and tells Mason to put on some music people can dance to. Coco goes over to Raffy and Ryder and apologises for her outburst. Ryder says it’s fine since Raffy doesn’t like Simone either. Raffy confirms it’s true, saying she has to accept her or she’ll lose Brody. Coco understands.
Justin finds Simone downstairs and reminds her the party’s upstairs. Simone doesn’t want to spoil it for Brody, despite Justin saying he’d want her there. Justin says Brody’s committed to leaving with her but Simone replies that if he was he would have accepted the offer on Salt, which Justin didn’t know about it. Simone says to tell Brody she’s going home and she’ll see him tomorrow. Upstairs, Ryder and Raffy are slow dancing and kissing. John and Mason are glaring at them; Raffy reminds them she’s sixteen now but, with them not changing their expressions, Ryder notes it doesn’t seem to matter as they kiss again. Justin passes on the message to Brody and asks him about the offer. Brody says he’s been thinking about all he’ll miss: Raffy finishing school, Mason becoming a doctor, Tori having the baby. It’s been just them for a long time. Justin assures him he won’t lose them.
People start to drift away, with Coco giving Raffy a farewell hug before leaving with Maggie. Justin comes upstairs and says Mason’s waiting with Jett. Raffy thanks Marilyn for convincing her to come and Marilyn reminds her of the breakfast in the morning. John and Marilyn leave, closely followed by Raffy and Ryder. Leah and the others offer to help but Brody tells them he’ll handle it. Justin sends Leah and Tori on ahead, pausing to check Brody’s good. Brody says he is and, left alone, looks around the empty restaurant wistfully.
Next morning, Maggie greets Coco with a rather long hug over breakfast. Coco is looking forward to seeing Ziggy again. Maggie again brings up Coco’s outburst the previous night, asking her not to do it again: It puts Ziggy back in the spotlight when she’s trying to move on and be happy. Near the surf club, Alf shows Leah and Justin the newspaper with Mason’s article. Justin is frustrated that he’s done this and probably messed up his internship again. He and Leah see Roo and Simone talking. After Simone’s gone, Roo tells them she’s moving out of her caravan. Justin initially thinks she means when she and Brody leave but Roo says she’s going today. Justin decides to call Brody.
John, Marilyn, Jett, Alf, Raffy and Ryder are having breakfast at the Diner with Irene serving. Ryder quickly volunteers to finish off Marilyn’s food. Jett says goodbye to Irene, and Roo arrives in time for a goodbye, with Jett asking her to look after Marilyn. Alf tells him not to let the city lot bother him and Jett delivers a stern warning to Ryder about hurting Raffy before saying he’s only joking. Raffy says she’s going to view him as her excuse to go to the city. Jett tells John and Marilyn there’s one more thing to do. The three of them go to Gina’s bench. John says she’d be proud of him. Jett says he’s been thinking about her, and about friends like VJ and Casey, and what his life was before he met them all: Even after everything that happened, his life’s so much better now. He says thank you isn’t enough but he’s saying it anyway. They all hug.
Justin arrives home and expresses his annoyance to Mason about the article, as does Tori when she’s filled in. They think he’s messed up his chances of the internship and staying out of jail but Mason insists it’s bigger than him and he needs to let people know. He’s interrupted by a phone call from his lawyer. Meanwhile, Brody finds Simone on the beach and asks her if she’s going. Simone says she’s tearing him in half and can’t take him away from his family and Salt. Brody insists that he’s got nothing without her and says he’s accepting the offer.
Mason finishes the phone call and goes back inside. Justin and Tori ask if the article has affected things. Mason says he’ll find out at his sentencing: It’s next week.
