Raffy’s birthday surprise puts Brody and Simone in an awkward position. Mason pushes his fight for Raffy to the next level. Tori is stunned by Robbo’s admission.

Extended Summary

Justin, Brody and Simone are at Salt discussing the party preparations. Simone is organising food prep and asks Justin to make another trip to Yabbie Creek to pick up the speakers. Brody recalls that Justin’s sixteenth involved him stealing some bourbon and getting drunk with his mates. After Justin’s gone, Simone gets a phone call but doesn’t answer it: It’s the school, who want to know about the job. Brody realises that means he has to make a decision about selling Salt. Justin heads home, where Mason is on his laptop and promises he’s sorted the playlist. Tori and Raffy arrive back; Raffy has undergone a battery of tests but they still aren’t sure if she’ll be accepted on the medical trial. The others remind her it’s her birthday tomorrow as she goes to bed. Tori gets a text from Robbo, asking her to meet him tomorrow because there’s something he needs to tell her…

…so Tori goes straight round to see him, saying she won’t get any sleep if he doesn’t tell her now. Robbo explains that he and Jasmine are engaged again. Tori is surprised but Robbo says he wanted to tell her himself because she was the one that gave him a push. Tori wonders what did it and Robbo tells her about the counselling. He admits it is out of his comfort zone but says he’s hoping it will make him a better dad. Tori responds by randomly bursting into tears.

At the Diner, Marilyn tells Alf, Leah and Roo about Jett’s apartment: It’s perfect and close to his medical team and the veterans’ support organisations are giving him lots of help. John has stayed another day to help him settle in but Marilyn came back for Raffy’s party. Ryder comes in and Roo offers to help him get a present, being slightly worried when he says he’s got something and won’t show her. Next morning, Tori, Justin and Mason greet Raffy with a happy birthday when she gets up and say they’re going to make breakfast while she opens her presents: Tori gives her a dress while Justin and Mason have got her a gift card. Raffy is pleased but insists she doesn’t want a big party, despite them saying she only turns sixteen once.

Justin meets Simone and Brody outside the surf club and tells them Raffy doesn’t want a party. They are disappointed but accept it’s up to her. Brody suggests having a family meal at Salt, since it will be closed anyway, and Justin says he’ll put it to Raffy. Raffy is fine with it and Justin and Tori leave her and Mason alone. Raffy explains she’s worried about having another seizure and getting worked up makes it even more likely. Mason is frustrated that she has to jump through hoops when they know the oil helps her. He says he’s going to do something: Unnoticed by Raffy, he sends an e-mail with his cannabis oil article to the editor of the Coastal News, Tom Stantion.

Justin chats with Leah and Marilyn outside the surf club. Marilyn is disappointed that Raffy isn’t having the party but thinks she can talk her round. Justin isn’t sure so Leah asks him if he’s met Marilyn. Justin agrees that she can try. Back at the house, Ryder gives Raffy an envelope but tells her he can’t afford a gift card. Instead, it contains a hand-made card with a photo of the two of them on the front and a poem inside. Leah and Marilyn join them as Ryder insists on reading the poem out: The verses are rather basic but the first letter of the lines spell out “Awesome”. Mason and Ryder leave the women alone as Marilyn convinces Raffy to let her give her a makeover.

Tori meets Robbo in a park area and gives him a voucher, saying she’s paid for him and Jasmine to have a weekend together in a B&B. She worries she’s overstepped but Robbo says it’s perfect. Tori bursts into tears again, calling it hormones. Back at the house, Leah is doing Raffy’s nails while Marilyn does her make-up. Tori turns up and has another bout of tears at how beautiful she looks. Marilyn and Tori suggest it might be nice for Raffy to have a party to show off the makeover and the dress. Raffy realises they’ve already organised something. They assure her it’s been called off but they can call it back on if she wants them to. Raffy agrees.

Justin approaches Brody and Simone outside the surf club again and tells them the party’s back on. Simone is slightly panicked, since she hasn’t even got all the decorations. Brody calms her. He admits the broker has got in touch, saying the buyer will withdraw if he doesn’t accept soon. Simone suggests the broker just wants her commission but Brody knows there aren’t many buyers about. Simone tells him to focus on the party. Meanwhile, Roo and Ryder are on their way but Ryder gets a phone call. He sounds worried, asking the person on the other end how long they’ll be. He tells Roo to go on without him, since he’s planning a big surprise for Raffy.

A group including Justin, Brody, Mason and Simone are putting finishing touches in Salt, where the floor has been cleared and a music desk set up. Leah and Roo also arrive, discussing progress reports from Dean and Ziggy. Brody is thrown by this and they explain about the rally. Tori and Marilyn arrive with Raffy, who is delighted and hugs Justin, Mason and (after a slight hesitation) Brody. They show her a lolly bar. Raffy wonders where Ryder is. Nearby, Alf is surprised to find Ryder isn’t at the party. Ryder explains he has a surprise present for Raffy but is hoping he can give it to her before the party’s over.

Robbo is on the phone to Jasmine near the surf club: She has just finished a shift so Robbo tells her to go home, pack and sleep and he’ll pick her up for the holiday. Alf appears and notices the wood in the back of Robbo’s ute. He explains he is going to make a cradle for the baby. Up in Salt, Justin is helping himself to the lolly bar. Brody asks if he knew about the rally. Justin says it’s neither of their business. Brody thinks Ziggy’s vulnerable and Dean might make things worse. Justin agrees Brody can be concerned but says sticking his nose in is crossing the line. Simone has been in earshot throughout and joins them. Ryder approaches Raffy and, after a bit of gaping at how she looks, shows her his surprise: Coco. Everybody is delighted to see her…except Brody and Simone, now in the same room as Ziggy’s sister.

Brody follows Simone onto the balcony. She wonders if she should leave rather than make things awkward. Brody says the party is mostly down to her and she’s part of the family now. Inside, Raffy guesses Ryder gave her the bad poem to throw her off the scent. Ryder looks crestfallen that she didn’t like it…then smiles. The youngsters head over to the lolly bar. Brody approaches and greets Coco but she angrily replies that she hates him.
