Purple Day goes off brilliantly thanks to Ryder. Mason and Raffy extract CBD oil. Simone battles for respect.
Extended Summary
Bella meets up with Ryder near the caravan park. Ryder is wearing a bright purple outfit with top hat and bowtie that even he admits makes him look like Willy Wonka. He explains about the epilepsy awareness day and gives Bella a purple scarf, telling her she has to help him set up now. A short time later, Bella is putting up a banner in the school corridor under Ryder’s direction. Ryder stops Maggie and checks arrangements for Tori’s talk.
John and Marilyn take Raffy to the Morgan house where Justin, Mason and Tori are waiting. They hand over her medication and say they need to get back for the army transport to Jett. Mason expresses his sympathies and Raffy tells them to focus on Jett. Later, Raffy asks Mason to look over her hypothesis. He is more interested in showing her the set-up in the garage and sends her on ahead. Justin reminds everyone not to tell her about Brody and Ziggy, since Brody’s planning to tell her tonight. Tori wants to tell her and Mason wants to wait until tomorrow so she can focus on the project but both eventually agree.
Mason shows Raffy the distillery. She still wants him to look over her project. Mason is initially uninterested, but agrees to have a quick look when she mentions going to Simone instead. He tells her he still hasn’t found any cannabis product but has ideas as to how he can. Justin comes in and Raffy stammers through an explanation of what they’re doing. Mason is more assured, returning her report to her and saying it’s fine. Raffy (who has been wearing a purple wool top throughout) heads to school where Ryder and Bella are selling bracelets. Simone buys one and Raffy asks to talk over her biology assignment with her. Simone says to meet her at lunchtime at 12.00.
Simone meets with Bella and apologises for not answering her message. Bella is surprised she’s brought it up and worries she did the wrong thing in calling Maggie. Simone says it’s fine but looks annoyed. Ryder and Maggie watch as students (most of them wearing variations of purple outfits) file into a classroom. Tori arrives and is greeted warmly by Ryder but somewhat frostily by Maggie. Simone also enters; Maggie tries to say she doesn’t need to be there but Simone insists she needs to know about what concerns Raffy. Maggie gets Ryder to introduce Tori rather than saying something herself and he tells the class epilepsy is a subject close to his heart before handing over to Tori.
Tori finishes her talk and recaps the five steps of seeing someone having an epilepsy fit. The first is to stay with them and not panic. Simone provides the second: Make sure they’re safe. Tori recaps the next two, don’t try to hold them down and clear the airway, before Ryder provides the last one, timing it. Tori asks if there are any questions. Bella asks Simone if there’s a cure and Simone gets her to ask Tori. Tori says there isn’t yet but that’s why they’re raising money for research. As Maggie leads the class in applause, Raffy sends a text to Mason saying “Have you got it?” Mason is at home on the phone when he sees the message, explaining Raffy’s condition to someone. He asks them to point him in the right direction and writes down the response.
Afterwards, Tori approaches Maggie in the corridor and asks about Ziggy, saying she’s sorry. Maggie says Ziggy won’t leave the house. Tori asks her to pass on a message but Maggie isn’t keen to mention a Morgan to her since she moved out, although she is appreciative. Tori turns round to find Raffy there, asking why Ziggy’s moved out. Tori and Justin chat to her outside the surf club, filling her in on the affair. Raffy is horrified; Justin says you can’t help who you fall in love with. Raffy says Brody fell in love with Ziggy and asks who the other women is, realising it’s someone she knows.
Simone is in her office with Raffy’s file in front of her. She looks at her phone: The time is 12.16. In the corridor nearby, Ryder and Bella are counting the money they’ve raised. Ryder compliments Bella on her question during the talk, saying he knows it was hard for her to ask it. Raffy comes back in a mood. Simone sees her and asks if she wants to discuss the assignment, saying to let her known in future if she cancels. Raffy angrily dubs her a homewrecker who broke up her brother’s marriage, to the shock of her friends.
Ryder tracks Raffy down; neither of them can believe what’s happened. Ryder asks if she’s called Coco and Raffy says she wouldn’t know what to say. She apologises for losing it, saying Ryder’s a great boyfriend for organising the day. Ryder suggests they hang out after school but Raffy says she needs to work on her project with Mason and also turns down his offer to join them, saying they need to concentrate. In her office, Simone leaves a phone message for Brody, saying Maggie isn’t being professional and she might as well go. Bella overhears part of the conversation and asks Simone if she’s leaving. Simone says she was just venting. Bella begs her not to, saying she needs her there.
Mason and Raffy meet up in a park area. Mason apologises for not letting her know about Simone, saying Brody was going to tell her tonight. He adds that he’s got something that might cheer her up, showing her what’s in his bag: He spoke to an advocacy organisation. Back at the school, Simone stops Maggie, saying Maggie’s been undermining her, excluding her from Tori’s talk and suggesting she wasn’t giving Bella full attention. Maggie says Simone should already have known Raffy’s situation. Simone says Raffy and Bella need her help and she’s not going.
Mason and Raffy arrive home. Raffy quickly shuts the garage door, with Mason inside, when Justin turns up. They briefly chat about Brody (who has a staff meeting) and Raffy says Justin can’t come in because it’s a controlled environment. She joins Mason while Justin joins Tori in the house. Tori cringes at letting things slip to Raffy. Justin notes she seems to be enjoying working with Mason. They discuss how she handled the epilepsy day and how good Ryder’s been. Justin suggests she’s finally accepted her situation. In the garage, Mason tells Raffy that it’ll take a few hours: He’s done his research and is using the same methods as the trial. They begin the process.
