Extended Summary
Maggie is in her office, on the phone to the department. She notes that the article is factual so she won’t retract it, but will be happy to inform the press if she gets the funding for a new support teacher. Simone comes in as Maggie hears that the decision is still pending. Maggie tells Simone that Bella is the main problem, explaining about her complex upbringing and the fact she hasn’t been to school in five years. At the Diner, Bella tells Colby that the article was about her. Colby says she’s not the only student with problems and offers to walk her to school. Bella isn’t keen but they leave together. Irene comes in, having just returned to town, and greets Leah. She chats about Heath, Bella and the new baby, then asks what’s new.
Outside, Colby and Bella run into Tori and Bella defensively confirms this is her uniform. Tori asks Colby if he’s heard from Robbo, saying he hasn’t even left the details to run the gym. Colby agrees to let her know if he hears from him. He goes over to Bella, who has only walked a few paces, and reminds her she’ll be late. Bella complains that he gets to do nothing all day. Colby decides to walk her in after all. Meanwhile, Irene arrives home to a fond greeting from Jasmine, who tries to deflect conversation by asking about the trip. Irene says she knows about Robbo breaking up with her.
At the school, Raffy is fretting about having the joint on her. Ryder tells her not to put it in her locker in front of people. Colby arrives with Bella and Raffy panics that there’s a sting going on. When the pair approach, Raffy quickly says her goodbyes and Ryder doesn’t stay much longer. Colby says goodbye to Bella, but Maggie stops him and takes him into the office to introduce him to Simone. Colby is slightly bemused, recalling her working at Salt. Maggie says she’s an experienced teacher and the new learning support, leaving them alone. Simone asks what sort of teaching methods Bella would respond to. Colby admits he’s just getting to know her again himself.
Irene and Jasmine are sat round the back of the beach house. Jasmine regrets listening to Tori and worries that something has happened to Robbo. Irene suggests that lounging around the house in her PJs isn’t helping and convinces her to get dressed so they can get some breakfast. After Jasmine’s gone, Irene leaves a voicemail for Robbo, insisting he let Jasmine knows he’s all right. Meanwhile, Raffy and Ryder are in class with Maggie, both rather nervous. They freeze when Maggie says Raffy’s dropped something but it’s only a pen. Raffy says she needs to vomit and Ryder goes after her to check she’s all right. Colby comes past and they convince him she just needs fresh air. Ryder tells Raffy to give him the joint and they can use it at recess. A girl comes out of a classroom and Raffy quickly kisses Ryder before putting the joint in his top pocket.
Irene and Jasmine have headed to the Diner. Jasmine agrees it’s better to be around people but is also worried about bumping into Tori. Colby comes in and Irene asks about Robbo. He says he’s as much in the dark as anyone. Irene says she was sorry to hear about Chelsea and asks about Bella. Colby gets a call and goes outside to take it: It’s Robbo. Colby offers to pass him on to Jasmine but it’s clear Robbo has other ideas. Colby goes to the gym office and again tries to pass the phone to Mason but instead writes down the bank log-in details for him as Robbo hangs off. Mason protests that he can’t run the gym. Colby tells him to run it, close it or burn it to the ground: Robbo doesn’t care.
Maggie’s class, including Raffy and Ryder, are let out. Maggie and Simone go over to Bella. Maggie introduces the pair to each other and Simone takes Bella into the office for a chat, suggesting they get to know each other first. Bella isn’t keen so Simone offers to tell her about herself. At Salt, Mason complains to Tori about having to run the gym, saying he was supposed to be a doctor. Tori wants to talk further but Mason has to get back to work; he’s only there because Colby wanted her to know. Tori wonders when Robbo will be back. Mason isn’t sure he will be.
Raffy and Ryder find a secluded spot near some beach huts. Raffy gets the joint out and asks Ryder for the lighter. Ryder realises he left it in his bag. He dashes off to the surf club and searches through the office drawers. Mason sees him and Ryder says he was looking for something for John, dashing out again. Tori and Leah come downstairs, chatting about Robbo. Leah suggests Mason was being melodramatic but Tori worries that he’s right.
Ryder has brought Raffy a box of matches. They try to light the spliff but are interrupted by Mason, who takes it off them, saying he told them this wasn’t the same as medicinal cannabis: It’s controlled and this is illegal. Ryder says it was his fault but refuses to say where he got it from. Mason insists on getting them both lunch to talk it over. He throws the spliff on the floor and stamps on it. At the beach house, Irene is about to leave as Colby arrives with the message from Robbo. Irene worries Jasmine will be upset and Colby says he’ll stay with her if necessary. Jasmine emerges from her room and Irene leaves. Colby says Robbo said to tell her he was all right but didn’t say when he’d come back. Jasmine realises Colby thinks he won’t.
Simone chats with Bella about her plans to be a chef but wants to know about her. Bella says the assessments show she’s stupid. Simone argues that you can’t know what you haven’t been taught and asks about living in a remote place with her dad. Bella says it was boring, like this. Simone suggests Bella write down her favourite things, biggest dreams and greatest fears. Later, Simone gets Bella to hand the notebook over. The bell goes and Simone says they’ll meet again tomorrow. Bella flatly asks if they can do something useful next time, but also says it wouldn’t be the worst thing. After she’s gone, Simone starts reading what she wrote and looks worried. Maggie comes in and Simone says Bella might need more help than she thought, showing her. Maggie notes Bella’s favourite things aren’t unusual, but her expressions matches Simone when she reads the bottom of the page.
At the Diner, Alf is served by a waitress, while at a nearby table Mason tells Raffy and Ryder he won’t report them if they don’t do anything like this again. Raffy says it stressed her out too much anyway. At the counter, Irene talks to Leah about Jasmine, blaming Tori. Tori comes in and says she thought Jasmine and Robbo were more stable. Jasmine and Colby arrive in time to hear this and Jasmine says Tori didn’t think about anyone but herself when she used the embryo behind Robbo’s back. Colby tries to stop her and Tori tries to leave but Jasmine says Tori’s having a baby and that’s all that matters. Raffy, who has heard every word, reacts with shock to Tori being pregnant.
